Summary: A fun movie to watch!
Review: Based on the 1980s and early 1990s popular video games series, Mortal Kombat, this movie of the same name is a fun martial arts romp.

The evil wizard Shang Tsung have won the last 9 Mortal Kombat tournaments. If they win a tenth one, the gates of Earth will open up and the emporer will be able to lay claim on the planet. Lord Rayden counsels Liu Kang, Johnny Cage, and Sonya Blade in the hopes of saving Earth this fate equivalent to death. But each of our heroes have reasons other than the fate of the world for being at the tournament. In other words, our planet is in serious jeopardy.

Slick fight sequences make up for lack of plot holes or character developments. Unless you are familiar with the video game, it may take you a little while to get up to speed. And if you are familiar with the video game, the lack of special attacks by our heroes and failure to properly use the phrases "flawless victory" and "fatality" may cause you to gripe.

All-in-all however, "Mortal Kombat" is a fun, fairly fast-paced movie that is worth renting and watching, or maybe even buying if you are a big enough fan.

Summary: The Cheese Takes The Cake
Review: This action/martial arts film should also be listed under comedy.
It is loaded with tons of sarcastic remarks, many of which Christopher Lambert adds in.

The whole movie plot is basically about a handful of people in training to save the world from a psychopathic, power-hungry emperor. The group of people includes the characters of g-man wannabe Sonya Blade, martial arts actor Johnny Cage, and Liu Kang, a former member of the Order Of Light Temple, or something like that.

These people are on the skeptical side and these are the reasons why: Sonya is out for revenge, Johnny is on an ego trip, and Liu thinks fighting in a tournament for the fate of the world is nonsense, and he only wants to fight so he can find his brother's killer.

As I said before, the cheesey lines are what's best about the movie, unless you happen to be a fan of Christopher Lambert, then that's the other main reason to watch Mortal Kombat.

although not always true if you watch a movie with cheesey lines and at least one good looking actor it should be good.

how ever it is NOT always the case.

Summary: One of the better "movie to game" adaptations
Review: INTRODUCTION:
In the early-mid nineties, the Mortal Kombat series of video games became one of the most popular and well-loved, as well as one of the most controversial. With all this popularity, it's not surprising that the game makers wanted to make a movie based on their widely-loved series. And in 1995, the Mortal Kombat movie arrived in theaters. How does it measure up? Read on and find out.

BASIC PLOT:
Three warriors - a martial arts movie star (Linden Ashby), a special forces agent (Brigitte Wilson) and a monk (Robin Shou) are brought to an island where an annual martial arts tournament is being held. Before long they learn from the god of thunder (Christopher Lambert) that the tournament is actually a scheme for invaders from another dimension to conquer the earth. Before long, the warriors begin participating in battles that will determine the outcome of their world.

FILM OPINIONS:
Overall this was a good film, one of the few good "movie to game" adaptations I know of. There are a few problems, however. First of all, Sub-Zero and Scorpion DO NOT work for Shang Tsung. In the games, they are neutral in the conflict, and their only real enemies are each other. Second, Raiden isn't supposed to have eyeballs. Also, in the game, the battles take place in various worldwide locations - NOT on a single island. On the good side, though, the acting is very good, especially Ashby's. Overall it's a good film.

DVD:
When you find a DVD for this low of a price, it's only natural to assume it doesn't have any extras. If you made that assumption, you are correct. Other than the very basic DVD stuff, you're not going to find any special features.

OVERALL:
Overall this is a good film, and it's worth checking out if you're a fan of the games - just be warned, no "movie to game" film adaptation is perfect, and this one is no exception. Still, it's a good film, and I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.

Summary: FLAWLESS VICTORY!
Review: Mortal Kombat is a movie adapted from a video game but it is different than the rest. It is the only one ever made that does not SUCK. The film begins with Chan fighting and losing his soul to Shang Tsung. Chan is the brother of Liu Kang, whose sole purpose in the film is to travel to Outworld to find Shang Tsung and exact revenge for his brother's death. The other characters include Sonya Blade,(Pete Sampras' wife), whose partner is murdered by Kano. Johnny Cage(Linden Ashby) is a famous movie star and is insulted when the press begin to doubt his ability and do not take him seriously as a martial artist. All three warriors travel to outworld to prevent the earth from a take over. It is obvious that nobody in this movie except Robin Shou(Liu Kang) knows how to fight in real life. Although Linden Ashby cannot fight he sells it very well and actually resembles the real Johnny Cage from the video game. The two best fighting scenes are Liu Kang vs. Sub-Zero and Liu Kang vs. Reptile. This movie is not the greatest, but after seeing the sequel "Mortal Kombat:Annihilation" I must say that I appreciate the little bit of originality that this movie has to offer!

Summary: Best movie based on a videogame
Review: Mortal Kombat is probably my favorite fighter out there. It's been around for more than a decade and just got better and better through the years. The movie may loosely be based on the game, but many characters from the game are present, including Liu Kang, Johnny Cage, Kano, Raiden, Sonya Blade, Sub Zero, Scorpion, Reptile, Goro, Shang Tsung, and Jax. All of them are true to their fighting style in the video game. Liu Kang has his trademark special kicks, Johnny Cage pulls off his nut punch, and, best of all, Scorpion's got his spear attack. Movies based on games are generally weak and get a lame score in the B.O., but this was the opposite.

Sure, it's kinda corny, but it's older than people realize. It came out in 1995, and the series was pretty young then, as was the use of computer generated technology. Nowadays, the C.G. enhancements would make the movie even more spectacular, but thems the brakes. Anyways, if you are a fan of the franchise (I have been since age 7), check it out.

Summary: Mortal Kombat stays true to its namesake
Review: The cast and crew of Mortal Kombat receives my good graces for their valiant efforts to make this movie a resounding success. The plot stays true to the original story of the video game. The characters are the closest to how video game adaptations to the big screen should be. The fights are spectacular, and the music does extremely well to go with the flow of the movie.

The movie opens up with a young man fighting the main antagonist, Shang Tsung, on the sacred grounds of the Temple of Light. The man (revealed to be Liu Kang's brother) loses, dies, and has his soul taken away by the sorcerer. Liu Kang wakes up from this dream and sets off to the Temple of Light. Meanwhile, U. S. Special Forces agent Sonya Blade chases after the famed arch-criminal, Kano, at a concert. Then in Hollywood, discredit martial artist/actor Johnny Cage makes another failed attempt at making it big in Hollywood as the best martial artist in the world. Eventually, these three humans unite on Shang Tsung's boat with the elder god, Rayden, to learn about their driving goals with one common purpose: to save the world.

The characters are perfected to a 'T.' Liu Kang is a disgraced Order of Light monk who must accept his destiny as the chosen one. Johnny Cage is a failing movie actor who works to prove himself to the world. Sonya Blade is a self-reliant Special Forces agent in pursuit of Kano, the one-eyed criminal. Meanwhile, the cast is supported by a plot that includes a former princess of a lost kingdom (Kitana), a four-armed champion (Goro), and three awesome ninjas with fearsome powers and ferocity: Sub-Zero (freezes things), Scorpion (shoots out a snake from his hand and teleports), and Reptile (Reptilian-like ninja with the power of invisibility).

Instead of showing off its display of blood and gore as depicted in the video game, the cast and crew took a chance to develop a morality tale with awesome fight scenes and a plot that would literally blow your mind. Believe me when I say, it's a fight movie like you've never seen before.

How would you feel if one day, the world began to rest on your shoulders? If you were the only thing that stood between your world and its destruction, what would you do? This is an extraordinary circumstance that just happened to pick you as the chosen one. Given the purpose of the mission, you could not afford to lose.

"The essence of Mortal Kombat is not about death, but life." No one could have said this better than Christopher Lambert's character, Rayden. His part is done so well as the God of Thunder and the Protector of the Realm of Earth. There is nearly a religious undertone echoing throughout the movie. Even when the Thunder God cannot interfere with the world's problems, he teaches them that man is responsible for their destiny. Their callings, however undesirable, are necessary to combat the everyday evils that surround our world. If no one will take responsibility, who will?

This movie receives the highest of accolades in my opinion. I hope the cast and crew continues to produce high-quality action flicks such as Mortal Kombat. It'll blow you away.

Summary: Great and all but why did they have to kill scorpio and sub0
Review: This was a great movie. The first time I saw it I was like 5, or 7,or,8,or,15 anyways this is real great but there's no special features. I was expecting behind the scenes, deleted scenes, commentary by the director and the video creators themselves. I wonder what they really thought of this. I don't know if this as critically acclaimed, but I'm pretty sure no Oscar nominee. Toy story was the movie that year. This movie was great but why did they kill Scorpio and subzero. They were cool dude. They were the only characters I really ever played. Well them and Johnny Cage. He was cool in this but he died in part 2. That's what I hated of the sequel. But whatever. I don't know about buying this but if your a big mortal kombat freak buy this!
