Rating: Summary: Didn't like it Review: I did not like this movie at all. The special effects don't make up for the weak plot. I enjoyed the first Mortal Kombat movie, but this movie was like torture for me to sit through the whole thing.
Rating: Summary: Not quite as thrilling as the original Kombat... Review: There is only one area where this sequel surpasses its predecessor and that is its soundtrack. The first Mortal Kombat soundtrack was a trend-setting phenomenon, but it is completely blown away by Annihilation's blazing tracks. The latter is a piece of modern techno-rock art.As for the movie itself: although there were even more special effects piled on in this one than in the first, this time the director has gone over the top, and the overall effect is actually inconsequential and unexciting, and it fails to galvanize the viewer the way MK 1 did. The dialogue and acting also slipped several notches down, while the loopholes went several notches up. In short, plotwise, Annihilation is a mess compared to the relative tautness of MK 1. All you are left longing for as you hang on is the emergence of the next fight-scene. Mind you, Annihilation is still not as horrendous as van Dam's *spectacular* "Street Fighter", but it really lets its predecessor down. This is a true pity as the film boasts the same gorgeous set designs and high production values as MK 1. One saving grace is that the director and script-writers seem to realize the inanity this film was inevitably heading towards, and so they peppered the movie with self-deprecating lines for the actors. Also, there is a wry tribute to Chuck Norris a-la-his-Bruce-Lee-film-appearance. This is enacted by Lord Rayden! A flawed sequel which manages to be watchable. The soundtrack will survive longer though. :-)
Rating: Summary: Good, but too many Kombatants Review: I watched this last night with a friend, and I liked it, but it's not the best. First, the way Cage died was so weak, and second, there were too many characters. Cyrax, Nightwolf, Jade, Sheeva, and Smoke had bit parts. Don't get me wrong I like this movie it is just a sit-back-and-watch movie, but some of the characters didn't get to fight. Overall, a goofy action movie, but slim down the cast. PS Bring back Reptile!!!
Rating: Summary: Real bad... shouldn't have been made in the first place Review: I watched this sequel once, and felt cheated after watching it. You call this sequel? Why would they bother to make it in the first place if they changed most of the cast. The way Johnny Cage died was also ridiculous. Don't bother to buy or rent it. One star is one too many.
Rating: Summary: A complete let down Review: I really liked the first movie. The fight scenes were entertaining and realistic. Johnny was amusing....all of the characters actually had to conquer something in themselves and grow. In this one, it's all about fight after fight, yet the fight scenes aren't even realistic! Granted people can't really throw fireballs, but in the simple things such as kicking, they could've done a lot better job. You want to just strangle the person for wasting so much time showing off. another major let down was the absence of Johnny. Sonja and Radin aren't even the same actors... not nearly as great as the first one. They could've done so much better.
Rating: Summary: Mortal Kombat Begins in fury, and dark side power! Review: I like this film because it'll make you jump. Why would anybody hate this? Shao Kahn, Liu Kang, Shinnok, Raidine, and Sonya are the reasons why I wanted to buy this. I also like it because of the fight scenes, and superhuman villans. The reason why Shao Kahn became evil is because of Human Jenetic engineering. MK fans! I highly recommend this. Now, I have to deal with the reviewers who write the negative reviews about this film. Stop this talk. Raidine would be ashamed to hear his warriors saying bad things about this movie. With attitudes like that! you'll never become Raidine's chosen ones. I'm talking about the people who gave this movie 1 star. Yes! there are different actors who played the characters. Sometimes It's like that with most movies. This movie is one of the best. MK 2 is a great film, and there is no quarrel about it. If you don't like it! Then why did you buy it in the first place?
Rating: Summary: negative straight Review: Which movie is worse, this or Street Fighter? Everything about this is wack especially that non-straight Raiden(Gayden). The showdown at the end is horrible, animalities?! I remember thinking that this would be a good movie because of part 1, but now I'm glad I didn't pay to see this.
Rating: Summary: Sequels suck big time! Review: This is one of the worst movies I've ever seen. The first one was "tongue-in-cheek" kung-fu/action that even the makers didn't take seriously. The actors in the original Mortal Kombat looked goofy, but it was obvious they were having a good time. Here they just came for their paycheck. And if you thought there was no story in the first one, you will not be able to sit through the sequel... Dumb, stupid, unfunny! "Annhilation" is obviously solely a producers' idea to milk more money from us. Don't let them!
Rating: Summary: Why would anybody like this? Review: This is probably one of the worst "films" ever made, period. At least the first MK movie was tolerable...this one is a complete joke. I think the goal of the script was to fit in every possible character from the video games, even if they were only there for a few seconds. Every interesting turn that the movie could have taken was completely lost by the insane number of these pointless cameos. They in no way added to the movie. Apparently those involved in the making of this film forgot about two key things that tend to help movies out: plot and acting. The horrible CG of the climactic (and yet again, pointless) dragon battle at the end is worth watching simply because it will give you something to complain about for the rest of your life.
Rating: Summary: Annihilate Them! Review: I have been a huge fan of MK since the super nintendo version came out. I think I was 12 when I saw this movie in the theater, and at the time I was thrilled. Now I would say that the first one was pretty good, but this one can't exactly match up to it. The fights were definitely done well, I will give it that, the plot was predictable yet exciting, and the costumes were cool, in that geeky kind of way ^^...what I'm really trying to say is it was mediocre. I would recommend this to anyone who, like me, only watches movies for the fighting scenes. If you are looking for good acting and compelling drama, look elsewhere. Also be prepared for Sonya's constant whining, "I still don't see why Johnny had to die!" An answer for Sonya: Because he lunged at Shao Kahn in the beginning of the movie. Duh. And that's another thing that ... Why DID Johnny Cage have to die??? Hello - killing off one of the main characters in the first five minutes of a movie does NOT make a good intro for the people who are watching!!! Jade's being a traitor was about the most predictable event I have EVER seen...however I did like Liu Kang, Kitana, and Rayden as characters. Shao Kahn and Sheba were not really very villainous though, as they did not seem particularly threatening. I must say that the "special effects" certainly were "special"...they were completely FAKE!!! Don't let that exploding "mountain" fool you guys :) All in all, you have to see this movie. Why? Because it's creative. Because the fights are good. Because you can laugh at the weaknesses. Even because the acting ... If you like martial-arts movies or even action movies, this is a standard that everyone should see.
