Summary: Worst Film EVER
Review: I went to see this film in the cinema with two friends back in 97. The best thing about the movie was the popcorn that they served at the cinema. I wouldn't recommend this film to my worst enemy. We ended up walking out about half way through the film.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Really fun flick!
Review: I caught this in the theaters back in '97 and have enjoyed it ever since. John Leguizamo as Clown really steals the show! His humor and jokes are so twisted and gross that you just can't help but laugh. Unfortuately, Simmons/Spawn ends up playing second fiddle to him.

This film gets a bad rep, but it was much better than that other comic book film of summer 97 (Batman & Robin).

Again, Clown's humor is not for the weak stomached. Such as when he breaks wind and says, "Oops, that was a wet one." Then pulls his undies off to reveal the skid marks as evidence.

Summary: Falls Short of the Comic Book (Really Short)
Review: Spawn was created by Todd McFarlane back in 1992. The comic books are about a man who sells his soul to the devil for the chance to come back to earth and see his wife and child again. But the devil plays a sick joke on him, and sends him back 5 years later to find his wife remarried. It is now that his hatred for hell sends him on a fight against demons, but heaven believes him to be evil as well due to his roots in hell, so it is a battle of good vs. evil vs. good. What the movie is about, is a way for money hungry Hollywood producers to make some extra cash.

It is terrible! Spawn is completely missing his awesome costume from the comic book, and is instead given something that looks as though it came from a 'Wallace & Gromit' cartoon! Clown (played by John Leguizamo, who ends up even more likable than Spawn) is portrayed as more of a comedian, than a villain. The dialogue seems as though it was written and delivered by Rain Man!

The only good thing about it is the fact that is Spawn. Until a better set of filmmakers come along, that understand the book, and that have enough sympathy to the fans to not make them consider suicide, this is all that we've got! A lousy script, lousier acting, and the lousiest possible fimmaking makes me give this flick, two thumbs down!

If you liked the movie thats cool, I liked it too until I discovered the animation and comics. So if you do like it, I'm not trying to make you mad, or make you believe what I believe, it's just a fan's opinion.

Summary: Hollywood did again....
Review: This is movie is based on my favorite comic "hero" and it ends up sucking. I'm not even going to say anything except that

1.They should have let Todd McFarlane write and direct this
2.Hollywood should get shot for making this film
3.PG-13? Are you kidding me...this ain't no kiddy comic man!

This film was just terrible but I must say the CGI is terrific in this film but that's it....Unlike the comics or animated series you won't find..
Profanity
Graphic Violence
Disturbing imagry and this list go's on.

Even in this "Directors Cut" there are only two major difference in this and the PG-13 one which is...Al says a naughty word!!! Oh my gosh! And the other one is him shooting that girl in the head...

This movie flat out sucks...

2.1 out of 5 stars....

If you really wanna watch Spawn it's all hell and out of controll way watch the Animated Series from HBO.

Thats All I gotta say...

Summary: FAIRLY MELONCOLLY FAIRLY COOL THE AVERAGE
Review: this live action version of spawn simulates the orgin of al simmons and hellspawn. parts of this movie contain ground breaking special effects and computer animation but the action is somewhat the opposite(but there is quite a bit of it). on the partialy computer generated cover spawn looks quite agile and silky and awsome but in the film he looks like he cant even move his limbs out and he is very bumby and boring not to mention cheesy.but there is a cool scene were spawn leaps out of a large building in slow motion while shooting clips of bullets.people say the pg13 version is worse thaN THE DIRECTOR SCUT I WATCHED IT ITS NOT TRUE.I WOULDNT BUY THIS GO TO YOUR LOCAL VIDEOSTORE AND RENT IT THEN JUDGE IT.

Summary: A good comic-book movie
Review: Al Simmons was a a good father an husband. He was also a hit-man and saboteur for a self-serving megalomaniac, and for whatever power lay behind that maniac. As his jobs got more vicious and careless of bystanders, he wanted out. "Out," he learned, meant dead, burned to death.

That really made him mad.

He is reincarnated as an agent of Hell, renamed "Spawn". After that, there is everything you would want in a comic book adaptation. He has a soft side for his former family, thirst for revenge, mysterious mentor, super powers he has not learned to control, an incredibly annoying liaison agent from the devil, and Martin Sheen as an over-the-top bad guy. And a small boy as a sidekick. Does that complete the checklist?

Even though the nominal plot is a battle between heven and hell, fought on earth, there are no real religious overtones here (but you're free to read them in if you want). It's just wild characters, lots of fights, and passable effects. On the whole, a pretty good way to kill an evening.

Summary: As good as Hellboy
Review: I like it its just that why would a little fat clown (Violater) turn into a giant beast? But the SFX are cool. I just think it would be cool if there were bigger explosions. It sucked that they didn't make another one.

Summary: Spawn is different, original, sophisticated and intelligent
Review: While most would agree that "Spawn" had potential but never truly amounted to anything much...I would have to disagree. When the film first found its way into theaters in 1997, most critics gave this flick 7 out of 10 stars. It really wasn't as dreadful as I had anticipated. To begin with, Spawn is a wonderful, exciting creation, created by Canada's own: Todd McFarland.

The story of "Spawn" centres around Al Simmons, the highest-trained assasin for the CIA, the coldest of cold-blooded killers whose sole mission is to serve his country. When his superior betrays him, in exchange for a Heat-16 device, that when triggered will blow the world to oblivion, in order to dominate the world, his soul is sent directly to Hell where he is told in order to regain whatever is left of his humanity, his identity and his wife, he must lead Satan's army in the bid to kick-start the Apocalypse. Satan's lieutenant, his right-hand "clown", fuels his anger in a bid to direct it toward Jason Wynn, in an attempt to have him killed setting off the Heat-16 device, starting the Apocalypse. Wynn is told Spawn is a supernatural creature that must be stopped so he can take control of the world and gain all its riches, not letting him get in the way.

Satan's bid is to pit one against the other, so His plans to created the Eden of Armageddon on Earth. Spawn is left with the choice of having to fight his inner demons and use his supernatural abilities to overcome whatever evil has begot him. The central point that needs to be emphasized is that Spawn is a character who has to find a way to save the world, regain his life, without "selling-out" by doing Satan's bidding. By letting his anger "get to" him, Satan can only use that against him, never fulfilling His promise of having him returned to his wife and a normal human life. He must find a way of destroying the Heat-16 device, without destroying humanity, therefore not causing Armageddon. He must channel his thoughts and actions into positivity, where he can focus using his abilities to better humanity without causing too much damage and teach Satan a most valuable lesson: He must do his own "dirty" work himself if he cares that much to kick-start the Apocalypse! Satan is the ultimate coward in this film. Spawn is the true winner because he has lost a seemingly "normal" life, must rebuild from the beginning to find his identity and his true meaning in life, all the while fighting Satan and his lieutenant, accept that the woman he loves can no longer be with him and still try to find peace within himself.

Unlike, Superman, Spiderman or Batman...Spawn is not "clean-cut" nor "pure". He is flawed, he has much learning to do, the creator, as he claimed in the DVD Special Features, did great justice and exemplified true fairness in creating a superhero that did not confine to the stereotype of what superheroes should look or be like. He was not a rich man who owns millions of dollars and owns most if not all of a city (Batman) from whom we can all get something...He does not come from another planet (Superman) who is seemingly human except for the fact he has powers...and He was not bitten by a Spider and given magical spider abilities. Spawn/Al Simmons was a just a man working, serving his wife, living life day-by-day, believing he was doing right and trying to make the best of the torment he gained as a result of killing in the name of "good".

Spawn teaches us and shows us that even killing in the name of "good" draws you toward the "dark" side and that we must, all at some point in our lives, find ways of not succumbing to it. This character has so much depth, and inner torment, and it's this flaw that makes him so exhilarating to watch and follow. After having watched this flick both when it was released in theatres and on DVD, I thoroughly enjoyed it, especially when I re-examined the character over and over again.

There were wonderful performances by Theresa Randle, D.B. Sweeney, Martin Sheen and of course Michael Jai White. The pacing was reasonably well organized, the cinematography, some of the best of seen and the special effects are first rate.

The only thing that could have been more developed was Spawn's deep-rooted anguish toward life, himself and the loss of his humanity, and having to strife to make sense of his super-powers.
I thought this movie was actually deserving of a sequel.

I do agree that the animated series is amazing and more faithful to the comics...but for an action-packed flick, "Spawn" does deliver...I believe that for most the intelligence required to truly understand the depth of such a character can be quite trying.

My rating: Very Very Good.

Summary: Buy the Animated Series
Review: When I first saw this movie, I knew NOTHING about Spawn, I just thought this movie sounded cool, so I bought it....BIG MISTAKE! The movie is ok for Spawn Newcomers, but for high-class loyal Spawn followers like myself, forget this movie.
The story was ok, and was the basic story of Spawn and how he came to be, some of the stuff it has really happened in the Spawn comics, so I at first really liked this movie. Then I decided to buy some Spawn Comics, and I noticed that many of the elements in the Spawn movie were false, and I became mad very fast. I continued to read and read, and got more and more mad at this movie. Later I ran across the Spawn Animated Series Season 1. I couldnt resist, I wanted to see if anything matched up to the comics. It was perfect. Everything in that series is exactly what actually happened to Spawn, and put the movie to shame. So if you are a die-hard Spawn fan buy the Animated Series, if youre just a Spawn-curious adventurer, I highly recommend this, that way you can eventually buy the series, and hate this movie along with me!!
