Summary: Take LOTR to a new level
Review: The extended edition DVD's are just amazing. It gives you so much information on the movie that you never knew before. I will say some of the documentaries were rather boring, and really were stating the obvious. The cast commentaries can be hilarious at times, and boring at others. Honestly, I only baught this for the deleted scenes. They alone were worth the extra money. Most of them are so important to the story and you wonder why they would dare take them out. In the original releases there are alot of holes in the story, and alot of questions that go unanswered. When watching the extended edition alot of that is cleared up. They even add the scenes into the movie, instead of at the end like most other movies.
The Two Towers is the second in the Lord of the Rings trilogy, and in my opinion the best. The first movie kind of drudged on with character development, and left you hanging at the end. This picks up directly where they left off, and even takes you back a little to remind you of what happened in FOTR. It's an action filled adventure that begins to take each character further into their emotional journey. They even add a bit of humor throughout most of it.
I started out watching the original releases. Then after the release of Return of the King, I read the books. I was a bit disappointed with the movies after that. They left out so much that was important, and completely changed part of the story lines. After reading the books I decided to begin watching the extended editions, which took away alot of that disappointment. There is much more to these films than was shown. The documentaries give you a bit of history on Tokien. They take you into the writing of the screen plays and explain why they had to change the story lines. They also give you an indepth look on the making of the movie, and further into the designing of the imagery. My favorite one is the one taking you into the creation of Gollum. It gives all these tid bits of information that make it even more spectacular than it already is.
I'd say if you're going to buy any of the LOTR DVD's you should buy the extended editions. They are far better than the others. It may seem like alot to be spending on a movie, but really when you think about it. $30 is not a bad price for 4 disks full of incredible detail.

Summary: The Best Movie Ever?
Review: I have seen all three films and consider them to make up the greatest trilogy ever and this film is my favorite of the three! I have seen it several times.

The band that got together on the journey to Mordor in the first film is split into 3 groups. The Troll, Elf Archer and the man (who is destined to be king of men?) make up one band while Frodo and Sam make up the second band, and the other two Hobbits make up the third group. We basically have stories going on simultaneously and the director brilliantly goes from one to the other.

The film introduces Smeagle, a "Shrek-like" animation who is one of the most fascinating characters in film history. Frodo and Sam encounter Smeagle who becomes their "guide." All the while Smeagle is a split personality, and his evil side is planning to steal the ring from Frodo (he calls it "my precious") and to kill Frodo and Sam.

The other two Hobbitts encounter a race of giant tree-men. While the rest of the band go to a fortress to fight one of the best filmed battle scenes in movie history against a tremendous force of zombie-like warriors. While watching the men in the fortress prepare for the battle you feel like the are like the men of the Alamo preparing to fight an inevitible losing battle against overwhelmingly large forces. Amazing scenes show brave little kids and elderly being armed to fight againt the evil hordes. The battle itself is so well directed and filmed that you feel you are right in the middle of it!

Summary: Almost as good as The Fellowship
Review: 4.5 Stars

The Extended Edition does improve on an already excellent film, but it still falls a bit short in terms of overall story quality, relative to the first movie (and extended DVD). While in retrospect I believe the "insert" about how Smeagol became Gollum (from the third movie) would have more logically fit into The Two Towers Exended Edition as an intro, this DVD brings to light many small nuances from the books that you do not get from the standard version. Most of them in the form of added dialog at crucial points in the story, or the occasional reference to time or place (or scene).

I do wish that the movie -- and in particular the extended DVD -- had produced a smoother segue between Frodo's departure from Faramir's secret post, to his arrival at Minas Morgul. In point of fact, this aspect of the movie was completely different from the book so it is a unrealistic to expect remedies in the Extended Edition. Nonetheless I wish the storyline had been altered a bit in this regard.

Overall, the Extended Editions of the Fellowship and Two Towers are two of the very finest movies I own (of any genre), and I have no doubt that come November 2004, the Return of the King Extended Edition (an hour of footage added) will nicely round out my collection.

The bottom line: I highly recommend the Extended Edition of the The Two Towers. I firmly believe these three movies (and their extended counterparts) will age into true fantasy classics, to be mentioned in the same breath as The Wizard of Oz, Close Encounters of the 3rd Kind, and so on.

Summary: Lot's of documentaries
Review: Normally, I would consider it ludicrous to spend forty dollars on a DvD. But, if your a lord of the rings fan or an obsessive collector of all things DvD, this is a must. But only if you're one of those two things.

First of alll this super special uber duber platinum edition only offers the extended addition of the film. Not the normal edition, which is easier to watch for recreation et cetera. Bt this DvD's editions are pretty cool to watch once, or maybe twice. The best part of the DvD is the awesome collection of documentaries. As a guess, their are at least ten hours of documentaries in this thing. And they're high quality. Whatever.

Summary: Couldn't be any better
Review: The Two Towers is truly a great movie. The extended edition may be long but it is great. The acting was excellent. I loved the Helm's Deep part. The special features are great too. Peter Jackson really has done a great job on these movies. Elijah Wood did a great job as Frodo even though he ws pretty mean to Sam. Sean Austin did a great job portraying Sam who had too put up with Frodo. The battles scenes were the best I've ever seen. I highly recommend this film.

Summary: Heroic
Review: This movie is heroic in every sense of the world. It's a heroic fantasy, it's of heroic proportions, it stirs heroic feelings in the viewers... and it takes a heroic effort of will to sit through the whole thing at once, because it's just so huge.

The extended version of The Two Towers fills in many of the details that didn't translate from the book to the theatrical release. Not everything is here, of course, since not everything that works in a book would look good in a movie. Some lines have been reassigned--a speech by Tom Bombadil comes out of Treebeard's mouth, a Gandalf speech comes from Grima Wormtongue--and many narrative events have been streamlined to fit on two DVDs. But enough is here to satisfy most purists.

One problem is the increased role for Liv Tyler as Arwen. I've never been all that impressed with Tyler, and the struggle to give her more face time distracts from the actual narrative thrust. Thankfully, these additions aren't so big that they anchor this otherwise dynamic film.

The casting, direction, and location work is to die for, of course, and it more than justifies the unbelievable audience loyalty and high monetary reward the film series has earned. Like the second Star Wars film, The Empire Strikes Back, this second film of a trilogy uses its status as a bridge between stories to its best advantage. Without the sluggishness of introducing the characters or the anticlimax of conclusion, this may even be the most consistently good movie of the three.

Blessed with casting coups, heroic action, and some of the most beautiful visuals in recent memory, this DVD is easily equal to all the hype you've heard.

Summary: The Quest?
Review: Aye, this quest, speak more of it!

Well, we must wendeth toward Mount Doom, and destroyeth The Ring, lo though many dangers layeth before us.

Dangers? Pray tell!

Firsteth, a RELENTLESSLY LITERAL, HUMORLESS wasteland layeth ahead, and scores of stone-faced actors await (yeah, verily, Liv Tyler maketh Paris Hilton seemeth like Meryl Streep). Secondeth, embarrassing costumes, high language, and tiresome chats about mythical geography and silly powers MERELY HIDETH the fact that Our Quest containeth the depth of thine average Dark Shadows rerun. Thirdeth, the way to Mount Doom is ENDLESS, a soul-draining land WHERE NO EDITOR HAS EVER DARED GO, WHERE TIME HAS NO MEANING, WHERE IT TAKETH LESS TIME TO MAPPETH THE GENOME THAN TO SEE IT FROM BEGINNING TO END. Fourtheth...oh, I dare not speak it!

Speak it now, mighty elf!

That's hobbit, babe.

Hobbit, elf, troll, whatevereth...speak it now!

If we take up This Quest, we remain dateless for life...

Oooh, FORSOOTH...

Summary: Must Have!
Review: As with the extended version of FOTR, this DVD is a must have for any LOTR fan. Additional and extended scenes not only add new dimension to the story, but provides details and clarification of story lines. A better understanding of the Boromir, Faramir, Denathor relationship...which could probably be an entire movie in itself, Aragorn and Eowyn, the peoples of Rohan, Tom Bombadil and on and on. Why the theatrical version of this and FOTR are still being sold is beyond me. These DVD's are masterpieces. Click the "Buy Both Now" button now! :)
