Rating: Summary: Endgame or New Beginning ? Review: Endgame has really taken a beating by critics and reviewers alike for everything from Higlander-immortal story/origin/legend inconsistencies to the lack of the dvd version maintaining same integral story elements faithful to the theatrical release (different ending, etc.). I don't care about such technical and trivial things when the acting and action for this type of film goes beyond my expectations. Adrian Paul has come along way with his skill, craft, and talent for the martial arts and swordsmanship. He's not the same actor when first introduced through the syndicated and now defunct Highlander t.v. series almost 10 years ago.The Duncan character is not the same either. Both are more mature and the incredible knowledge Paul brings to the screen in his expertise in the martial arts is not just entertaining but exciting. He exemplifies true showmanship. Lambert's not so shabby himself as Connor despite his character's weary and tired disposition on the whole immortal take. Actress Lisa Barbuscia adds that sexy feminine smoldering touch as Faith/Kate and serves as a counterpoint to all the macho adrenaline characters and semi-brutal fight sequences. You could say she's the pearl in the rough sea.Her serious and intelligent demeanor add the strength that was lacking with previous Highlander female characters in both the t.v. series and theatrical releases. She's intelligence, strength, and beauty all in one neat package...The only problem was the all-too-simplistic plot or main story which is practically no different than what we were used to seeing on the t.v series; How to get rid of an evil pesky immortal pest who's as arrogant as he is deadly !And there's always one immortal who's more evil and potent than the other (the there's-always-a-bigger-fish theory). Also, there is much symbolism in the film dealing with religion and power. The three silver crosses embedded into the back heel of the evil Kell's shoes to me signified that Kell in the middle cross thought of himself as an all powerful God-like undeafeatable figure while the crosses on each side of the middle one signified Connor and Duncan as nothing more than powerless opponents. It's the cinematic and scenic historical flashbacks, the introduction of Connor's mother, and other minor subplots or unexpected story elements of surprise that also save the film...In the end, there can only be one decent ending (or two, if you've seen both theatrical and dvd versions like me)...
Rating: Summary: Great actors, good movie! Review: I loved the Highlander Series and was looking forward to Endgame. Although good, some things were just confusing or not consistent. Case in point, the fact that in the series it was mentioned that Duncan was never to marry. Of course, it could be that he married Kate/Faith before that prediction was made. The whole Connor/Rachel story totally confused me. I did enjoy the movie despite these confusions and look forward to another HL movie. Changing the ending in the DVD was a bit disappointing. Makes it seems as if they made a mistake. Maybe they did, maybe they didn't. I personally, just don't like it. All in all, a good movie with great actors.
Rating: Summary: What the heck is going on???? Review: All be it a fine movie I have to give it a bad review for the basic fact that it makes absolutly no sense! I could be mistaken but where the hell did all of these immortals come from seeking the prize? Connar won the prize in the 1st movie and asside from immortals teleporting in or being frozen for a long time I don't see where all these other people came from?
Rating: Summary: Endgame is a Great Movie Review: I loved this movie when I saw it at the movie theater, and I love the DVD version even more! The additional scenes in the DVD add so much, especially the ending. I would like to thank the producers for such a great DVD release. I didn't expect to see so many extras, but there is so much cool stuff in this 2-disc set. The hour-long behing the scenes featurette is very good. Christopher Lambert and Adrian Paul have some great scenes together in this movie. The soudtrack features some of the most beautiful music that I have ever heard. Peter Davis and William Panzer, I hope your listening -- I really want to see another Duncan Macleod movie with Kate, Joe, and Methos. I would also like to see the original Highlander movie rereleased on DVD with a 2-disc set. I would like to see two versions of the movie. One version would be the current director's cut, and the other cut would be a new cut that fit into the continuing Highlander stories. This new cut would take out the references to Connor winning the Prize. With this new DVD set, I feel like you could please both fans of the original movie as well as those who are fans of the continuing adventures.
Rating: Summary: Continues the Tradition Review: The fourth installment of the Highlander saga does a wonderful job of continuing what the first film began. Forget about numbers two and three, they strayed so far from the path that they should be films without the Highlander name attached to them. I cannot stress enough how horrible the second and third Highlander films are; I can't believe that Christopher Lambert would attach his name and talent to them. Highlander: Endgame joins Christopher Lambert with Adrian Paul, the Highlander from the films and the Highlander from the television series. The film revolves around an immortal that is more powerful than most of the immortals that Connor or Duncan have ever faced - and leads the two Highlanders to a tough decision. The fourth installment is a passing of the torch in a sense, moving from Connor to Duncan as the key player in the films. Some favorites from the television series pop up as well - the Watcher Joe Dawson and Methos, the oldest immortal. The DVD comes with two versions of the film as well as additional footage and a new ending. You'll have to form your own opinion on the DVD ending of the film, but I thought that it was appropriate. With the popularity of the Highlander franchise, I expect to see more Highlander films starring Adrian Paul.
Rating: Summary: If ther can be only one.... Review: Had the original Highlander film had remained untouched by sequels or spin-offs, there is no question that it would still be regarded as one of the most influential films of the sci-fi genre. Telling the story of Immortals battling for supremacy over the centuries, the final one left standing to receive a mystical "prize," it's storytelling and intrigue forever changed the face of the fantasy film, and it deservedly gained the status of one of the godfathers of the modern science-fiction movies, listed right up there with Star Wars, Blade Runner, and Alien. However, its success merited a franchise which quickly grew to Star Trek proportions. It went onto produce two more sequels besides this one, a cartoon show, a few video games, and, most importantly, a long-lived TV show that last for six seasons. It is difficult to compare this film with the first film. The original Highlander was a standalone film, made before the knowledge that its popularity would merit so many spin-offs. This is a film made at the end of the film's successful franchise, capping a universe that has lasted for over ten years. Therefore, I find it difficult to review the film in standalone fashion. Make no mistake: This is a film FOR "Highlander" fans BY Highlander fans. This isn't necessarily a bad thing; indeed, try to watch a Star Trek movie without any understanding of previous film or television entries and you'll be utterly confused. This film is the same way. It unites the Highlander of the films, Connor MacLeod (Christopher Lambert) and the Highlander from the TV show, Duncan MacLeod (Adrian Paul) for the first film since the first episode of the series. They are pitted against an ancient evil named Jacob Kell (Bruce Payne) and his companion, Faith (Lisa Barbuscia). The former is seeking revenge against Connor, while the latter is out to get Duncan. Therefore, since neither one of the Highlanders can defeat them alone, they must tag team against the to evil immortals if they want to keep the evil from destroying the world. As I said, this is a film strictly for Highlander fans. Anyone else trying to watch it will be confused and bored. As a film fan, I will confess that Highlander is a brilliant piece of work, and hence, I am a fan of it. Therefore, I found Highlander: Endgame enjoyable, though I feel that some of the character development was a little underdone. A few of the villainous henchmen I would have liked to have seen more work done on. I also would have liked to have seen more development between the two MacLeods. In the franchise, it is explained that Connor, about one hundred years older than Duncan, trained him in the ways of the Immortals. From this mentor/student relationship, a deep friendship formed that made the two like brothers. As a fan, I knew this, so a scene towards the end of the film which I won't give away for those who haven't seen it reaches its peak as very touching and significant. Someone unfamiliar with the series might find it a tad confusing. (Fans will also find welcoming some familiar faces from both the first film and the TV show, but I won't give away any of their cameos either.) Despite these shortcomings, however, the film itself is quite good. The well-choreographed action scenes alone are worth the price of the dvd, and both Lambert and Paul deliver performances that are so powerful...so sincere and moving...that even a non-fan will be touched by their delivery. Truly, these are two of the finest performances of the year. The use of scenery is also Oscar-worthy, with good Scottish/Irish tunes to back them up. Summing it all up, this is the perfect ending to a nearly thirteen-year franchise, and all Highlander fans should drop what they're doing and flock to go buy it. I applaud the writers and the director for their effort here, but most of all, I applaud Christopher Lambert and Adrian Paul for their masterful performances. Having been tackling their roles for years, they've got the part nailed, and their presentations here pay the ultimate tribute to a fantasy franchise that has reached epic proportions. If there can be only one, this film is the right one!
Rating: Summary: Highlander:Endgame lets get ready to rumble!!! Review: I thought that this movie was pretty good then I got the DVD version and saw the early cut of the movie and loved it. But what I don't get is what happens to Conner I mean what happens to him then what happens to the timeline of Highlander 2 I just don't get it.I like the uncut sceens to whoever reads this I sugest that you buy on DVD than on VHS.
Rating: Summary: Nearly there Review: I saw the first Highlander film back in 1985, on my own in a cinema in Britian, it changed my life. Endgame had its soul in the right place and for that it gets 5 stars from me, hweve, they should have used Heather more, and I was so dissappointed with the end...why oh why use such a dreadful bacdrop for the final fight...a power station! where was the grandosity we demand for a final fight scene, they were in London they could have used the Dome or London Bridge..bring a bit of power to the scene. For 15 years I have waited to be touched again, perhaps I should make a Highlander movie!
Rating: Summary: MY TWO CENTS' WORTH Review: OKAY, FIRST, THE MOST BLATANT MISTAKES. THE RULES OF THE GAME CLEARLY STATE THAT ONLY ONE-ON-ONE COMBAT IS ALLOWED. THAT WAS ESTABLISHED IN EPISODE 1 OF THE SERIES. THE FLORING IN CONNOR'S ROUND ROOM RADIATES OUT FROM THE CENTER IN THE ORIGONAL MOVIE. IN ENDGAME, IT GOES STRAIGHT ACROSS LIKE CONVENTIONAL FLOORING. DUNCAN VISITS CONNOR'S RUINED ANTIQUI SHOP TEN YEARS AFTER THE EXPLOSION, AND THE BARRIER TAPE IS STILL UP, THERE IS NO DUST ON THE FLOORS,AND NO INDICATION OF VANDALISM IN NEW YORK CITY. LASTLY, WHEN DUNCAN IS SHOT, PAY CLOSE ATTENTION TO THE SHELL CASINGS EJECTED FROM THE BAD GUY'S REVOLVER. NOT ONLY ARE THEY FROM AN AUTOMATIC, AND INCOMPATABLE WITH ANY REVOLVER, BUT THE PRIMERS ARE MISSING FROM THEIR BASES! FOR ALL OF YOU NON-FIREARM FOLKS OUT THERE, THE PRIMER IS WHAT MAKES THE CARTRIDGE GO "BANG" . ALL THAT SAID ,I STAND BY MY PREVIOUS ASSESSMENT OF THIS FILM. THE MARTIAL ARTS SEQUENCES ARE SOME OF THE BEST I HAVE SEEN IN MOVIES IN A LONG TIME, THE ADDITIONAL FOOTAGE ADDS TO THE ENJOYMENT AND ACTION OF THE STORY, AND I WOULD RECOMMEND THIS FILM TO ANY LOVER OF ACTION/FANTASY MOVIES. IF ENDGAME IS, INDEED, THE END TO THE HIGHLANDER SERIES, THEN MR PAUL AND MR LAMBERT HAVE LEFT US WITH A FINE PIECE OF WORK.
Rating: Summary: Exciting full of action and moving! Review: This is the best movie of the saga of the Highlander. I saw it with many reserves because I've read many negative reviews but when I finally watched but versions of the DVD (on the same night) I was left with a satisfying and positive feeling. Adrian Paul was excellent, "Kate" (Lisa Barbuscia) is the best feminine character ever (in my humble opinion she is better than "Amanda" even) It was great to have those brief cameos by "Methos" and "Joe Dawson". Kell was a very "good" villain. My only complaint is that the make up department couldn't achieve a younger look for Christopher Lambert. This movie captures the same feeling and magic of the TV series. Kudos for the producers of this great movie!.
