Rating: Summary: Not again... Review: Let's face it, the first movie was the best and will never be equalled. The t.v. series was also very good, and I liked it a lot. But this movie was a waste of $6. I don't think the editing could have been any worse, totally choppy, and cut in to the continuity. As far as the acting goes, Adrian Paul looked lost, and Christopher Lambert looked to be in a great deal of pain. (And what ever happened to Paul's character "laying down the sword" at the end of the t.v. series?) I would love to see a t.v. movie with Adrian Paul as Highlander, but please no more theatrical releases.
Rating: Summary: A great improvement... Review: The theatrical release of Highlander: Endgame was one of the most puzzling releases I had ever seen. While the characters and concept were consistent with the TV show, the film itself seemed to be greatly lacking. Almost soulless. It was only barely decent. With the DVD release, 12 minutes have been restored to the cut, and the quality of the movie has been changed dramatically. The villain is more interesting, the characters are more developed, and the plot makes more sense. It is actually a good movie. The DVD package itself is also a great deal of fun. Not only are there some interesting featurettes (including a very interesting 1-hour behind-the-scenes one), but there is an earlier cut of the movie, allowing one to actually see how the movie developed. And, with a quaint trivia game included, along with some features for those who have a DVD-ROM, the DVD is more than worth the money. As for the movie itself, it is a great relief. While there is still almost no sense of continuity (continuing the proud Highlander tradition of disowning anything prior to it), the movie sticks to the original concept from Highlander I and stays there. There are immortals out for the prize, and the immortality itself is half blessing, half curse. It is also a joy to see Heather and Rachel, both of whom were ignored since the first film, once more playing out their roles in Connor's life. The acting is very strong, and there literally are no weak performances. The action is fast and furious, and the plot is gripping. Still, I find myself wishing that there was some continuity laid down that the producers would actually follow. At this point, the only way that somebody could follow the stories between all four movies and the two TV shows is with an interdimensional map. But, all in all, definitely worth seeing, and definitely worth owning.
Rating: Summary: There can be only one. No really, only one! Review: Now look, I understand studios have to make money. Iunderstand that when a film does even reasonably well there must be asequel because it will make money, not because the film is worthy oreven able to support a sequel, just because of the money (ghostbusters2, Caddyshack 2) The quickening was terrible for many reasons, not theleast of which is, and I believe I have said this, There can be onlyone. In the end of the first movie, and it was the end, finished, that's it now, make something else, Conner McCloud wins "theprize" and we supposedly live happily ever after, it was a verygood film, really good, but there was not, is not and never, ever willbe room for a sequel. There could be only one. There was only one.Everyone else had died or been killed. Everyone. Why? How? andwhere for the love of God did all these other immortals come from? Isthere a special immortal factory somewhere where they are churned out(a bunch of them are on motorcycles this time, ho hum) There are vast"immortal cocoon" type places now where they sleep Where didthey come from? Who cares? Evidently no one connected with this verybad and pointless sequel. I truly wish whoever thinks up yet anotherHighlander movie will be beheaded as a public service.
Rating: Summary: I hate bad reviews but.. Review: First of all, let me say that I hate bad reviews. Reading them bothers me when I think of all the hard works that goes into a movie. Having established that, I still have to say that this movie is a stinker. It is to the original Highlander, what Lambert's version of Beowulf is to the original Beowulf... somewhat of a mockery. The original Highlander movie is a work of art. The sequels, as well as the series, in my opinion, not only dilute the original story, but are inconsistent to an impressive degree. Its like each one was wrtitten by a guy who had only heard about, but never actually seen the others. In Endgame, the beloved memories of the fierce Kurgan and good ole' Ramirez are once again trampled. There is yet another "ultimately evil" enemy and, of course, Conner's 400 years worth of sword skills are totally inadequate against him. Ramirez would be spinning in his grave. Beam this one back to planet Zeist with the rest of the nonsensical junk. Ouch!
Rating: Summary: Excellent DVD Package for a Decent Movie Review: If you're a big fan of Highlander: The Series or any of the previous movies, then you probably enjoyed Endgame when it was released to theatres last year. I did, even though I thought they could have done a few better things with the plot. Well, miraculously, they addressed my concerns in this DVD package by including a prior cut of the movie, with varying scenes and a (in my opinion) better ending. While this bonus cut isn't of high quality, it is still worth a fan's time to watch it at least once. If you're not a fan of the Highlander theme, I can't honestly recommend this movie to you. But if you are a fan, then it is a must have.
Rating: Summary: Finally! A sequal worthy of the original. Review: My one and only gripe is that the villan wasn't nearly as powerful as the theatrical trailers once purported him to be. That aside though, this is one movie that no Highlander should be without. The addition of 12 minutes of footage really made this movie a lot better than the theatrical release (which was admittedly a bit of a disapointment). The new ending in particular was a very welcome emotional pick me up compared to the theatrical "I'm still depressed they killed (insert spoiler here)." There have been criticisms of continuity problems between this movie, the series and the movie. Well, that just goes without saying since the first movie ended with the gathering. The series itself doesn't even hold to the movie continuity. If they're ever going to make another Highlander movie, of course they will necesserilly have to ignore the last ten or so minutes of the first movie. Take it in stride and enjoy it. The extras included on this set are also worth a look at. A choice of three quizes can challenge even the most fanatical Highlander fan. A second full length cut is also cool. It's the same story, yet so diferant. It's always interesting seeing some of the decisions a producer goes through making a movie. There's many more special features than can be listed here. But between those and the movie itself, Highlander Endgame is definetaly worth the pickup. Don't forget to find those easter eggs!
Rating: Summary: WHAT A DISAPPOINTMENT!!!! Review: As a HUGE fan of the original Highlander movie and the TV series, I looked forward to this release. What a disappointment! Can't the writers/directors/producers come up with a decent sequel to the original movie??? The TV series has far more interesting 1 hour episodes than this movie has in it's 2 hours. The only redeeming quality is that they did not make the immortals space aliens or magicians or sorcerers this time around. This movie could have been a great story that should have taken place within the timeframe/confines of the first movie, as we all know Connor wins the prize at the end of the first movie. But no, the writers have you jumping between familiar settings from the first movie (for foreshadowing purposes??) and then change the well known ending of the first one?? What? Huh? If your confused by this, you will be confused as to how this movie ties into the Highlander universe. Furthermore, there are more holes in this movie than a net. Why doesn't Methos fight Kell? Methos has more kills than anyone. (When you see this movie you will understand what I mean). On the positive side, the action sequences are great. It is good to see characters from the first movie and the TV series interact. And, as mentioned earlier, the immortals are human; at least as human as immortals can be. They have no special powers. The villians are good and have great lines. This movie is a decent but ultimately wasteful effort by the writers. Not as bad as Highlander 2 or 3 but not even in the same ballpark as the original movie. Gentlemen, please try again. And this time, watch the original movie and stick within the boundries.
Rating: Summary: One good story ruined and twisted by 2-3 other stories Review: Folks, I have to be honest, I haven't even watched this movie <BG> and I never will. Being a fantasy story fan for the last 15 years, I like stories that make sense. Highlander #1 was an awesome beginning to a great story! I love to collect movies and stories that are unique, that are romantic, exciting and different. Too many stories are the same out there.. same old D&D junk. HighLander 1 was one but it was butchered by the sequels. It makes me sick to see a good story ruined. How can Connor die if he was the one to win the prize. How can he win the prize if there was an immortal trapped underground for years. The idea was that you had to be the last alive to win the prize. Underground does not mean dead! What started out as a medieval fantasy type movie turned into a scifi mockery. Couldn't someone have came up with a better history than aliens....come on please.. geez... If the prize was seeing the thoughts and knowledge of everyone, how could he not forsee the fall of earth to what it was in the second movie. Whoever wrote the first movie must be sick to his stomach to see the rest! THE SERIES.. the series is great.. but it goes against the first movie for the guy in the series to live longer than connor.
Rating: Summary: Lets hope its not the end of the Game Review: I must say I love the hihglander lore...The thought of immortals battling through time intrests me....However I was a fan of the show more than the movies...The movies were good but the tv series was my fav...However this movie which features both Highlander pkus characters from the tv show was a treat..It was enjoyable to watch the action scenes were well done. The plot although a little thin was easy to follow. I recommend this mmovie to anyone craving a little action in thier life.
Rating: Summary: Alternate Version is Better Review: Both the theatrical release and the "new" DVD release on Disc 1 are dissapointing. The "Earlier/Alternate" version on Disc 2, however, is much better. Whoever made the decision to not fix-up this reversion for theatrical release made a big mistake. This would have possibly turned a C movie into a B movie. This version is more like the TV seriese and HL 1. Despite this rough cut's voice-overs and broken fight sequences, it is still better than the Disc 1 version. It looks like they may have had a real movie on their hands and someone decided to ruin it! Whether it was a decision made by Davis and Panzer or Dimensions, someone should be fired.
