Summary: Only the Beginning in an Incredible Saga
Review: I hardly ever venture out to the movie theatres anymore because of all the trash that's playing there now. I went to see The Fellowship of the Ring at my brother's insistance, and I was not disappointed! It was one of the most incredible movies that I have ever seen. I am amazed at what Peter Jackson (the director) was able to do with it. The trilogy by J.R.R. Tolkien is a very dense read packed with tons of details. To be able to turn it into such a great movie is a real accomplishment! There are some differences between the book and the movie, but that is the case in almost every movie ever made after a book. It's very difficult to make everything exactly right and include every tiny detail. I knew as soon as I saw it that I had to own it. It is the tale of Frodo, his companions, and the ring of power created by the evil Lord Sauron. The Fellowship, a group of representatives from all the races of Middle Earth, is chosen to destroy the one ring so as to keep the evil of Sauron and Mordor, his land, from covering the world again. You as the viewer, journey with Frodo and his companions on their epic quest against evil to "the land of Mordor where the shadows lie." This is only the first movie, and I guarantee you that if you see it, you'll be begging for the next one. (So go see the Two Towers- it's in theatres now...) Buy the Fellowship of the Ring! You'll watch it over and over and over again, and never tire of it!

Summary: Lord of the Lame
Review: I HATE HATE HATE HATE this movie. Most of all, I hate how it gets such great press for being such an outstanding masterpiece and yet real pieces of cinema get no recognition. This 3 hour [stuff]-o-thon is boring from start to finish. Not reaching even so much as a bit of a conclusion at the end, the movie takes us on a pointless and boring quest to take some stupid ring to wherever. Of course it fails because there are 2 other ... movies that are coming soon. I think I would rather spend three hours at the dentist than sit through this piece of absolute garbage again. I don't care if it's based on a book, a movie should feel like a movie. No other movie in a trilogy in the history of cinema has an ending even approaching how lame this one's is. You could at least make me feel like I haven't wasted my time, money, and energy. I actually saw this stupid [stuff] in the theater. I can't believe that anyone would buy that special edition with artwork or whatever. These guys obviously see you coming big time. I am obviously not planning on seeing the second one.

Summary: Words cannot describe
Review: I hate to sound repetitous, but the movie was the most cinematically stimulating thing I have ever seen in my life. Adventure, love and hate, friendship, death and loss, magic, and redemption; all there waiting. The direction, the acting, the cinematpgraphy--all simply marvelous. I read the books, and I really enjoyed them, but the movie made a good thing perfect. I have seen it three times and would do so again (as soon as I get rid of the crick in my neck that resulted from sitting in the front row twice).

Kudos to Peter Jackson. Kudos to Elijah Wood (who made me swallow my tongue with his performance--has he finally broken away from the McCauley Culkin syndrome? The answer is a resounding "yes!")

I read most of the reviews and I have to disagree with those who thought Peter Jackson sold out by making Arwen, who rarely appears or has any line in the books,a central character. I must admit that, at first, I was of the same opinion. However, it was so tastefully and logically done that it works. The whole movie works.

People go to the movies for entertainment, and the movie provides that and more. Be prepared for some eye candy, but that is not what makes this movie so wonderful; it is a credit to Jackson, his amazing feat, that he has made a movie out of a fantasy classic and he has done it justice.

Summary: best movie ever? nah..
Review: i have a number of quarrels with this movie, but i'm still giving it five stars because i did enjoy it enough to go right back ...[the same day to watch it again] the best part of this film, i think, is the scale. the atmosphere, the immersiveness. i'm definitely a fan of escapist entertainment, and this is an amazing piece in terms of that. the sets were absolutely amazing. things like the vast mines of moria ...just make the world seem so dull when you leave the theater. so i enjoyed being sucked in by all that grandiosity and stuff. to be ridiculously cliche about it, they definitely do bring tollkien's world to life. i can't really elaborate on the book/movie relationships because i haven't read them in so long, but i plan to read them all again, Hobbit included... ...movies are much more detrimental to your enjoyment of a book than vice versa. the point of a piece of fiction is that you use your imagination to bring the story to life. if you've already seen the movie, then all of that is just being spoon-fed to you. ...

so now that i've expounded on how much i enjoyed it, ...here are the various problems that occured to me while watching. mind you these are minor in my opinion, not big enough to prevent me from seeing it again right after. first off, i thought there was a generally overblown melodrama to everything. certain scenes where nothing is really happening, but the music swells and swells, and there's this sort of lapse of inwardly troubled looks and swelling music. i just didn't like that, every once in a while i thought the drama was taken too far, the music got a little irritating. you just need a break from that now and then. also there was the archaic speech, which never comes off well. you have to kind of flow along with it, otherwise it becomes extremely annoying with all its inverse grammar and universally british accents. that does lend something to the atmosphere of the film, but at the same time, its very obviously acting, and it is such throughout the film, all this overblown drama and intoning of weighty words. the agent smith guy ...struck me as exceptionally stupid. he sounded like a kid playing in the back yard at times. "the ring...must be.....DESSTTROOOYYYED!!!" thats annoying. i'm not into that. but whatever, its a minor glitch. i guess thats my only complaint, i never got a sense that any of the characters were remarkably real. that is something that is accomplished in only a few movies i've seen ... there's plenty of emotion, but its all the same cheezy hollywood fantasy emotion, and you never get a break from it, so you never really connect with it either. its just your average movie-schlock.

ah yes, my other complaint is that scene with gandalf fighting the head of his order. ...its not bad until he starts spinning gandalf around. ...it was just sort of ludicrous and killed the darkness of the scene. by the way, i did enjoy the overall dark feel of the movie. as i said before, while that meant lots of somewhat ...[bad] acting and dialogue, i think it gave the whole film a much more immersive feel.

oh yeah, and worst line in the movie, approximately quoted: "we can perservere, if we stay true.....(dramatic pause).......to each other!!" oh god, so sappy. ...

Summary: Can't wait for his future!
Review: I have admired E.W.since he was a small boy. I've liked his looks, his attitude, and his work.
I believe he has the making of a great star... and I can't wait for him to get the recognition he deserves.
Lord of the Ring gives him the opportunity at a very early age to become a classic.. and he goes for it.. his work is outstanding... and will be seen for many years to come by many generations.
I can't wait to see him as an adult... playing those roles that are now given to the Tom's and Brat's..(he's gonna be so good!)
Elijah's got it all. Good looks.., carisma.., art, pure art!

Summary: Fantastic film
Review: I have all ways enjoyed the books and this movie does justice to them all it whets your appetite for more. The effects and make up do not detract from the story. I'm glad that this wasn't done by Geeorge Lucas. Peter Jackson has made a fantastic movie. This is now at the top of my list of greatest movies.

The characters are great, the acting superb and it enthrals you from the begining; showing the power of the ring. Read the books definitely and then see the movie.

Summary: The Best Movie EVER Created
Review: I have already seen this movie three times, and I intend on seeing it many many many more times. Anyone who says this movie was not good must not have been watching the same movie. Amazing special effects and great storytelling, even the actors seemed like they were really living the story. Great Commendations to the director for preserving the storyline and not making too many changes. If you didn't like the movie, watch it again from a different perspective.
