Rating: Summary: See...it can be done... Review: I was so relieved when I finally saw the Lord of the Rings movie with my own eyes...it proves that it is indeed possible to make a movie with a monster budget (or 3 movies for that matter) and still not lose the human touch. All actors play their roles excellent, unlike in StarWars the effects are never the main focus,of course they are wonderful but they are very embedded into the story so that sometimes you don't even notice them as a special effects.Where in StarWars the effects are meant to steal the viewers focus from the horrible acting. The Lord of the Rings has a certain magic about it that I thought was lost forever...the magic to pull you into a distant world and to make you feel like you really are in Middle Earth witnessing all these amazing events. And the Two Towers is even better...for me it's the coolest movie I've ever seen. Go watch it :)
Rating: Summary: One word: Masterpiece. Review: I was so speechlees during the entire 3 hours that when the movie was over I realized that almost the entire left side of my body had fallen asleep[.] The scenary was beautiful to look at, the music was perfectly scored along with the mood of the movie. And the plot, though rather thick, was easily followed for those who are unfamiliar with the Lord Of The Rings (as I was).I received the trilogy of books for Christmas, and after seeing this movie, I am already almost finished The Two Towers and am preparing to hand it over to my sister and father who are just dying to get a hold of it after I'm finished with it[.]I can't wait to see the sequel next Christmas! I just hope it's as well done as Fellowship was. The only downside to the movie is that I personally feel the rating is a little overlooked. This movie, in my mind should have been rated R. The only reason it wasn't was because there was no vulgar language. But the brutal violent scenes and the screaming and screeching of the Orcs + Black Riders had already taken their tolls on some pre and early-teens sitting behind me before the first hour of the movie was finished. If you are a parent of a child, I would advise seeing this movie first before exploiting them to the tense visuals and loud verbals they'll see in this movie. Other than that, I do believe that this is a movie that all mature and desenstised minds can enjoy from all angles and I recommend every stable-minded person to see it[.]
Rating: Summary: Spectacular - great job Peter Jackson!! Review: I was so thrilled with this movie! I am a fan of the books, and I have to say I wasn't really expecting the movie to be nearly as good. But it was!!!! I've seen it once and can't wait to watch it again. There were a few details left out that I wished hadn't been, (no, I don't mean Tom Bombadil) but not enough to ruin the movie in any way. For example, they didn't have enough of Merry & Pippen, which is a shame since they could have added some comic relief. Otherwise there was marvelous attention to detail. I especially like the way they kept some of the actual lines used in the books. The actors were cast with real genius. They did such a great job. I didn't think anyone could portray Tolkien's characters in a believable way,...but was I wrong!! Ian McKellen (Gandalf) and Viggo Mortenson (Aragorn), definitely stand out-they were awesome. They really became the characters. So does Elijah Wood(Frodo), "Elrond", Sean Astin (Sam),...and Legolas, Gimli, Pippen....they were ALL good!! The only exception possibly being the Lady Galadriel...she's not shown as the good, loving queen she is in the book. The sound effects are rather deafening, and the orcs are some of the most hideous looking creatures I've ever seen. They really did a job making them! All in all, a great movie, and probably the best adaption possible of Tolkien's work!!! A classic "good vs. evil" story. I'm looking forward to seeing the movie again, ...and then I want the other two!!!!
Rating: Summary: Great Movie Review: I was surprised at how well the movie went along with the novels. I was sort of disapointed that they left out the whole Tom Bombadil part. I'm sure they had thought about it but in the end it had to be cut. This will definitly be a movie I will see again. I will definitely buy it too. I can't wait until next year and the year after when Two Towers and The Return of the King come out!
Rating: Summary: Love it! Review: I was surprised to find I enjoyed this movie even more than Attack of the Clones--and I'm a big Star Wars fan. Partly it was the novelty of the movie, since I didn't know as much about Spiderman man as I did about Superman and Batman, for example, when I was a kid and was reading comics. And partly it was the fact that this was a more intimate movie than Attack of the Clones, since it concentrates on many fewer personalities and goes much more into the development of the Peter Parker character and his immediate family and friends (as well as his enemies). The movie does a great job of realizing Spiderman's abilities, which are put to good effect in the movie. The fight scenes with the Green Goblin are really well done, and the movie seems to succeed without nearly the amount of special effects that the Star Wars movies are using. One minor detail. In the original comic strip, Peter acquires his amazing abilities after being bitten by a radioactive spider. In this movie, he's bitten by a genetically engineered super-spider, whose DNA interacts with his own to give him his new-found abilities. All in all a great movie for the summer. Big Steve says go see it and don't Bogart the popcorn.
Rating: Summary: Lord Of The Rings Review: I was thoroughly impressed with this movie. It stayed true to many aspects of the book. My favorite being Elijah Wood's portrayal of Frodo. Elijah brings a character that you can grow very near and dear to, and also adds an element of inner turmoil and strife that you don't really catch in the novel. Excellent. Only get 4 stars though, because once again they decided to leave out Mr. Tom Bombadil.
Rating: Summary: the best movie adaptation of a book that I've seen Review: I was thrilled back in 1999 when I first heard that someone was going to do a Lord of the Rings live action film trilogy. When I finally saw it in December 2001, I was NOT disappointed. The imagination and the power of the story and the settings were all brought out in full force. The costumes, props, and everything else was original, not campy or borrowed off of Conan the Barbarian. Especially in the beginning while watching this film on the big screen I could FEEL like I was visiting Middle Earth and seeing all these characters that I merely read about before. The screenwriters were very good in knowing what to cut out and what to leave in, because while I hear complaints that this part 1 movie was three hours long, as someone who has read that first book if could have been a lot longer! The only things that were changed did not really do any detriment to the original story, unlike some other movie adaptations I have seen. Be warned though, this is not necessarily a kid's movie. There are many things that are, for lack of a better word, shocking in the fantastical sense. I was surprised at how many parents brought small children to see this movie on the big screen. Nevertheless, this is a must-see just for the (Oscar winning) visuals by themselves.
Rating: Summary: Wake me up when it's over Review: I was told to watch this, and that there'd be no dull moment. The very first sentence that I heard, and I mean THE FIRST sentence, I knew this was going to be bad. I however, tried to keep an open mind. Maybe the beginning is bad or slow, but it MAY pick up. It's been about 50 minutes into the film, and I am just yawning, and checking email (being I am watching it on my PC). Someone I know wanted me to see both of them plus the third in the theaters in ONE DAY! My gosh! I can barely watch a 1/3 of the first one. It's too cheesy, and fake. "This is the ring of nonsense, one once had it, and now one does not. This ring is special, and must not be placed on finger, or great disaster could occur." Blah. Just because people make a big deal over it, doesn't mean it's good. They made a big deal on Titanic. I was bored with that film. I'm a creative writer, and these sort of films BORE me. Watch Star Wars, it at least has a better story.
Rating: Summary: Simply amazing! Review: I was totally blown away by this movie! I read the books many times before watching the movie and - this movie stayed really close to the original script and animated it beautifully. Awesome special effects without being too flashy, casting great too. All in all a very balanced piece of work. I can't wait to get the DVD release, it's a MUST HAVE for my collection.
Rating: Summary: The Lord of the Rings Review: I was very diappointed in this movie. It lacked substance. If you like nonstop fighting then this movie is for you. Other than that it was WAY TOO LONG. About an hour could have been removed.
