Summary: The once and future kings of fantastics films
Review: Seeing Excalibur again in 1999 offers new rewards--namely the screen presence of unknowns Patrick Stewart and Liam Neeson as two of Arthur's knights. Of course Patrick Stewart graduated to his own Camelot in Space on board the starship Enterprise and Neeson is playing a Jedi Knight in the new Star Wars movie. So Excalibur gets an all-star cast before its time, appropriately so, given the time-conscious themes. Boorman presents the Arthur stories beautifully, economically, wasting little in highlighting the stories of Uther, the sword in the stone, the meeting with Lancelot, and perhaps most moving, the story of Perceval's quest for the Grail, highlighted brilliantly by Wagner's music to Parsifal. This is operatic cinema at its best, and Excalibur ranks with Star Wars as one of the great mythic adventure movies.

Summary: One of the most finely crafted productions I have ever seen
Review: I cannot get through the entire of "Excalibur" without crying. No other movie of this genre will quite as beautifully depict what John Boorman has done here. Everything was just so well thrown together...the scenery, the soundtrack, the convincing cast and the storyline. I have watched this movie over and over again all my life and even now it is still as powerful as it was when I first saw it as a child. I think it is one of Boorman's crowning glories. Definitely a film to be remembered and shared with all.

Summary: One of the 10 best movies in the 20th Century
Review: Excalibur is splendidly done. It is a classic that will stand the test of time. From the beginning with King Luther and the tale of Arthur's rise as a true King, the noblity of the knights of the roundtable, this movie is one that shall be cherished by anyone who takes the time to see it. You can't help but get caught up in the drama...Sir Percival, Sir G'wain...Sir Lancelot...Sir Euyrens....what a masterpiece!!!

Summary: One of my all time favorites
Review: This is simply one of the most beautiful movies ever made, with a great story to boot. Kudos to Boorman (who has made many good movies) and his Cinematographer for delivering the story through its scenery. The final battle scene is incredible visually. I cannot wait for this movie to be available on DVD.

Summary: What More Can I Add? It's Great!!
Review: All my fellow customer reviewers are absolutely right. This is a great moment in cinema that is always worth a second, third, fourth, twentieth look. One more thing to recommend it is a chance to see the work Patrick Stewart, Liam Neeson, and Helen Mirren did before they were well known outside Britain.

Summary: Spellbinding -- The Best Adaption of The Camalot Legend
Review: Boorman weaves dark and striking images to tell the Authur legend as it has never been told before. Merlin comes across as half mystic/ half con artist but totaly entertaining. The characters are all tragic and flawed, but come alive on the screen.

The rise and fall of Authur is so vivildy displayed, the viewer is trasported over 1,000 years to live and breath the world of knights, wizards and the holy grail. The climax is stunning and the images stay with you long after the movie is over.

It is too bad a wide-screen version with re-mastered sound is not available for this epic masterpiece.

Summary: Timeless
Review: Simply the best... Totally free from the Political Correct junkies. I dare say that we may never see such a great adaptation from a historical story again.

Summary: An epic
Review: The best portrayal, the most lush and, dare I say it?, erotic, of the Arthurian Legend ever to grace film. Director John Boorman managed to squeeze into this film powerful levels of *sparks* (provided by Merlin and Morgana), lust (courtesy of Gueneviere and Lancelot), betrayal (kudos to Mordred) and loyalty to duty (Arthur), all incredibly blended with a score to die for. I have seen this probably 40 times and every time I find some nuance I hadn't detected before. A guy movie. A girl movie. You get the picture!
