Summary: Preachy but Fun
Review: The X-Men writers always did take themselves seriously, and this film is no exception: it begins with the round up of Jews during World War II. From there, the analogy between Mutants and "the oppressed" jumps to a senate hearing where a Mutant representative attempts a defense against the world's increasing fear of Mutants. Or I should say, the Mutants power. From there, the whole tone of the film is set. Mutants are trying to survive global hostility, as well as the central villian in the film: Magneto, a holocaust survior who is supposed to be a "tragic figure" while possessing enough power to single handedly destroy the human race. Some tragedy. The film aslo introduces us to the central character: Wolverine; who is essentially the best thing here. Hugh Jackman really sinks his teeth into the role of the violent and deadly Mutant with a mysterious past. Unfortunately, everyone else get's pushed aside in favor of Jackman, making this more like The Wolverine Show instead of The X-Men. [Director] Singer seems comfortable with the material; after all, he directed the preachy Apt Pupil. But with so many character and plot introductions, Singer isn't really able to give everyone the attention they need and deserve. The relationship between Jean Grey and Scott Summers, so vital in the comics, barely registers here. Shame. Fortunately, he does give the film a very serious edge which prevents the "cheeze" factor from dooming this project the way it has so many other comic-turned-films. Overall, it's a well made film with a serious but flawed message: no, Mutants are not in danger; in fact, they have such awesome power, in reality, they would never fear us normal humans. Think about it.

Review: Based on the popular Marvel comics, X-Men is an exciting and visually dazzling joyride with extraordinary characters and great special effects. In a world filled with fear and prejudice, the rise of genetically enhanced beings has created a "mutant" scare among humans. Under the leadership of Professor Charles Xavier (Patrick Stewart), a group of mutant outcasts with amazing powers known as the X-Men, protect the humans who fear them from the powerful Magneto (Ian McKellen) who unleashes a sinister plan against humans. X-Men is the best comic-book adaption since Tim Burton's Batman. Director Bryan Singer (The Usual Suspects) has done a marvelous job making X-men to life. The solid and creative storyline and some realistic human tension sets this movie higher than previous campy superhero action films. The cast is terrific. Patrick Stewart, Famke Janssen, James Marsden, Halle Berry and Anna Paquin not only look the part but also act out their heroic characters perfectly. Hugh Jackman's performance as rugged Wolverine is just one of the movie's highlights. The action sequences and special effects were very good, but a couple of scenes could have been developed little further. Despite this, I still think that X-Men is a spectacular and well executed fantasy adventure that lives up to its hype. There has been much discussion whether X-Men can be classified as either a standard DVD or a special edition DVD. In my opinion, I think that X-men is the best Fox DVD to date, but I was expecting a little more. The sharp picture quality and superior sound is way better than in the theaters. The animated menus are excellent. This DVD has some great special features including deleted scenes, the behind-the-scene feature "Mutant Watch" and a hilarious outtake featuring Spiderman. Overall, I give X-Men an A-/B+.

Review: Just a quick thing to say, picture and sound quality on the feature during this film are absolutely stunning. THX certification really is the way to go. As with T2, the pic and sound here just rock completely. And the film is great as well. I personally really like it and find it very re-watchable as well. Extras also make this a great DVD for the price.

Summary: What's still missing in this movie !?
Review: The movie was good ! I actually didn't pay to watch it cause I fininshed watching one movie and went to another which happened to be X-Men. I say they needed characters like Gambit, where's Gambit !?, Beast, Juggernaut, etc. Why would they add a guy like Toad in the mix !? I hear a squeal soon !

Review: Bought this, watched it, enjoyed it, recommend it. Perfect casting, terrific special effects, and overall an attention-holding comic-book film that can be enjoyed by even those who never read any of The X-Men comic books, such as my husband. He never read any of those comic books which surprised me because I thought ALL boys read The X-Men. Yet he enjoyed this movie.

Review: Not to tell others what to like and not to like in movie genres(I like Godzilla Movies and South Park). I have to say that I had much trepidation thinking about how the X-Men movie would play out(its only the best comic book ever). I was praying the 'Batman-isms' would be left out, and I was rewarded. The movie is actually very accurate to the story line of the comic(its tough putting decades of a comic into a movie) The casting was perfect, Ian McKellan is a perfect Magneto. Unknown(not anymore) Hugh Jackman steals the show as Wolverine. The supporting cast is easy on the eyes and on the brain, playing each character close to the vest.(please, show me the fight sequence between Wolverine and Mystique again-Jackman and Rebecca Romain-Stamos). While it is just my opinion, Singer has set a high standard in the 'comic turned movie' genre that others will be compared to. Buy it, and keep in in your collection.

Review: I thought X-Men was okay, I mean the special effects were neat and all. Though this movie, is not the best and some of the characters are cool. A movie about some bad guy named Magneto who wants fo conguer the worldn and a professor who wnats to stop him is basically the plot. I thought Wolverine was cool, but this moving got a little boring. Some characters like Toad were plain dumb,they didn't even make sense. I mean a guy with a huge tongue that can do "amazing things" is really messed. The truth is X-Men I think is a movie that boys and only boys will like. It's has some action and will hopefully bore you.

Summary: A Great first movie!
Review: Considering the fact that there will be more X-Men movies I give this one five stars. The movie moved too fast to let all characters have enough dialogue. I think Sabretooth said about ten words. Still, each character does the comic justice and the special effects are amazing. The story follows the comic almost perfectly. This DVD is especially good because they show you ten minuets that were cut out. If they had left those ten minuets in it would be a big improvement. Maybe they'll learn from their mistakes and make the second one even better.

Summary: B-Rate At It's Best
Review: X-Men isn't horrible. It certainly has wonderful special effects and is bringing one of my favorite comics as a kid to life. However, this movie is a wonerful example of modern B-Rate movies. Not that being a B-Rate movie is bad. It's just that if you can figure out the entire plot within 45 minutes of movie i'm dissapointed. The acting isn't exactly inspired, it follows the comic about as well as your grandmother does, and the great comedic moments are chuckle-worthy at best. However, it has the three major components of a B-Rate flick. Great action scenes, a script made up by a group of 12-year olds, and good-looking women running around. (Allright, only Rebecca Romjin and Halle Berry, but i'll deal.) Essentially, do not buy X-Men if you want an involved drama that delves into the souls of each charachter and the things that drive them, etc. Do buy X-Men if you're looking for a movie you can watch without ever being forced to think about anything more indepth than which X-Man you liked most.
