Rating: Summary: If not a ''must-NOT see'', it is next to that. Review: A production for which all facility of highest film technologies have been successfully used, a director who is said to be one of the tops in the USA. Yeahh, what is the result? Simply a show of those who run and those who (or which) chase. Hurrah the monsters are coming behind us , so run for your life! Fine for children and fast moving male teenagers/youngsters, and adults who are believed to have IQ of a kind (uch sorry I forgot) and for the dinosaurs who might discover what a wisdom they have got enabling to cope with human brains , which the movie tries to explain.Certainly it has deserved the Oscars it has got, which is certainly not for what it is trying to tell. Looking forward to another one in which run/chase show is between humans and highest volume/weighing mezosoic era creatures, which are not clever enough to dominate this world (what a pity)!
Rating: Summary: Jurassic Park = Good Updating of Frankenstein Review: A lot of the reviewers of this movie seem to be missing the mark and comparing the movie to the book too much. Obviously when a movie maker adapts from a book he knows full well that it is going to end up somewhat different. That's no surprise. The movie does have great action and CGI and all that but I liked some of the quiet moments in it, like the brontosaurus eating leaves off the eucalyptus. I also liked the part when they went on the tour and didn't see anything. It actually built up the tension. But the movie still gets passed off as a mindless monster movie. That's what I was afraid it would be before I saw it. I was pleasantly surprised when I found out it wasn't. And a little let down when The Lost World was. Everybody also seems to be completely missing the point that Jurassic Park is basically a retelling of Frankenstein (another book not faithfully adapted into movie form): presumptuous man brings back dead life, thinks there won't be any problem even though others can see there will be, monster/dinosaurs go on rampage, presumptuous man becomes sorrowful man. Frankenstein, which can be seen by the shallow-minded as a mere mindless horror story of a monster killing people, actually has some interesting, contemplative moments that show the beauty of life while simultaneously showing the ugly things that happen when mortal man presumes to take God's place. And these are scenes that build tension. What could be more tense than the Frankenstein monster looking at the little girl throwing flower petals into the pond? On the surface it is a touching scene, but we all know what happens. Frankenstein has stood the test of time and so will Jurassic Park.
Rating: Summary: making history Review: this movie is one of my all time favorites. you'll never get bored of watching this on a saturday night, especially when you have a big screen tv with the ultimate sound system. speilberg knew what he was doing when he started this project, making film history. the special effects had never been tried before and the end result was a sheer masterpiece. even today, although the effects are dated, the computer animation in this film looks so real you almost begin to believe the dinos are real. i've always been a fan of dinosaurs, ever since i was a little kid, and i've never seen them captured with such beauty and magnificence as they are in this movie. although it doesn't follow the book, it was a great adaptation. i recommend you buy this movie, and then prepare yourself for an experience not soon forgotten.
Rating: Summary: Where's the DVD? Review: Hey, I liked the book. I liked the movie. I would love to see the scenes that hit the floor. I would love to see a 'making of..' snipet on DVD. I would love to see an interactive product that is as much fun as The Lost World website was - this does not mean I liked that movie though. I can't believe it's not available. 'Outland' is available on DVD! Shheessh I'm willing to part with my cash and ....
Rating: Summary: Great entertaining movie! Review: This movie should be based on the medium that it is presented. This is not a novel and should not be rated as such. Comparing this movie to a novel is unfair to the director and to all that worked on the film. Cinematically this movie will hold up for decades. Spielbergs' directorial penache exudes through every frame of this film. This is a great entertaining ride through a fantastical world of make believe. Great for friday movie nights and other such entertaining destractions. Personally I love this movie and find it entertaining to this day. Great movie!
Rating: Summary: shocked. Review: I can't believe some of the heartless reviews that have been posted regarding this film. Apparently no one seems to realize that Spielburg is making an artistic statement regarding the horror of dinosaurs. Instead of giving into the powerful message that this wonderful man has to offer about the evils of dinosaurs, people feel they need to nitpick. i think this film should be viewed by school children everywhere. remember we must never forget.
Rating: Summary: Everyone's seen it already, but here's what I think... Review: If you haven't read the book, this can easily rate as a 4- or 5-star movie. If you have, however, you'll be sorely disappointed. Spielberg has turned what was a spellbinding action story into one cliched chase scene after another. Instead of being the intelligent pragmatic voice of reason, Malcolm is presented as an annoying smartass. Ellie goes from a strong, assertive scientist to a dependent secondary chaacter. Instead of an intelligent but disloyal schemer, Nedry is a bumbling idiot. The kids are whiny and unnecessary, but in this respect nothing's changed. They should have been left out of the book to begin with. But I digress... the special effects and animation in the movie are excellent. But the main story is twisted and wedged into the typical-cliched-Hollywood-thriller mold with a crowbar. If someone had done it to stay true to the book and not cared about merchandising dollars, this could have been one of the finest movies ever made. It's a shame...
Rating: Summary: Ok, let's get some perspective... Review: The movie is never as good as the book. You hate hearing that, I hate hearing that, everyone hates it. But, except perhaps for "Silence of the Lambs," it's ALWAYS true. Crichton's novel was easily readable, had perfect pacing, made you think and consider the issues a little, and was a masterful work. This movie is the ultimate example of sacrificing almost everything good in favor of action and special effects (at least it was at the time: since then we've had Titanic and Star Wars I to remind us just how low movies can sink). Malcolm goes from the intelligent voice of reason to being just some whiny extra guy in black. Nedry goes from a smart if disloyal individual to an incompetent idiot. Everything is rushed through the book's paces without the consideration or intelligence of the written passages. Do yourself a favor. Shut off the TV, think for yourself, and go read a book.
Rating: Summary: This movie ROCKS! Review: Scientists spending the weekend on a tour of an amusement park are out of luck when somebody shuts down the power and lets a bunch of hungry dinos loose, who start eating them. A little boring at the beginning but this takes off once the dinos go free and stays fun until the end. Popcorn, pepsi and pizza.
Rating: Summary: One of the best action movies... ever! Review: I saw this when it first came out; bought it, and have been watching it ever since. I think that it is one of the best action movies ever. I just read the book a few weeks ago, and did see that the movie could have been a little more exciting if it would have followed the novel by Micheal Crichton a little more. Nonetheless, a great movie, and awesome cast. Sam Neil and Jeff Goldblum where born for these roles.
