Rating: Summary: "It's so stupid, it's even become funny" Review: That were the actual words of my daughter. Sorry, guys, cannot share your fun. Granted we laughed at quite few places, just not the places creators of the movie meant to be laughed. When evil king of goblins starts to sing "Oh, my baby..." Oh, my... It's really extremely stupid. The caveat to this is clearly that children of age 3-6 may find it really good, and for this purpose the movie is probably good. So I am adding for that an extra star (otherwise it would be zero)
Rating: Summary: A True Classic ! Review: Labyrinth never fails to make me smile. I have been watching it since 1989! It has a great storyline about courage, love and friendship. It is action packed, full of one of a kind Bowie songs, and quite frankly, hilarious. The characters are unforgettable. Jennifer Connelly(this may have been her debut) is as breathtakingly beautiful as she is charming and innocent. David Bowie, as the Goblin King is perfect. This is a movie to watch again and again and each time notice some new detail. My 30 something daughter, my teenage son and my 8 year old grandson all think Labyrinth is the greatest. As mother, grandmother, and teacher, I highly recommend Labyrinth for anyone who likes an adventure.
Rating: Summary: If only there could be more like this... Review: Labyrinth is one of those rare movies that grows in the overlap of several really brilliant, imaginative people, in this case arising from a blend of a Terry Jones script, Brian Froud art, and Jim Henson puppetry with a bit of David Bowie music added in to keep things danceable. Jennifer Connelly plays Sarah, whose ill-timed wish to be rid of a screaming toddler (played by Brian Froud's son Toby) suddenly makes the world of goblins, pixies, and riddles she's often read of very real. Hampered by a stunningly attractive Goblin King (David Bowie) who uses all the powers at his disposal to keep Toby for himself, she must learn how to work within the rules of the story at hand rather than assume the story will conform to hers to save her brother from goblins and her own sense of wonder from an encroaching unimaginative world. Brian Froud and Terry Jones also collaborated on a book, "The Goblin Companion," that explains the history of the Labyrinth and a bit of Goblin society, which makes the movie even more enjoyable.
Rating: Summary: The kids love it! Review: This is a great movie, very imaginative. You can watch it several times and learn/see something new each time.
Rating: Summary: The best children's fantasy movie ever made Review: I saw this film in the theater as a child, and nearly 20 years later (wow!) this is still the best fantasy film for children I've ever seen. It also inspired my love for the artwork of Brian Froud. The sets and characters are still more impressive than most of the CGI-laden stuff that is produced for kids to watch now, and the story has an important moral. David Bowie is a perfect fantasy villain; he's dark and creepy yet also a little vulnerable and appealing. Jennifer Connelly has come a long way with her acting, but she still fills the role of a teenage girl who tries to keep adulthood at bay by immersing herself in the world of fantasy she loved since childhood very well. This movie is beautiful and dark, funny and scary, and an absolute classic for every family to treasure!
Rating: Summary: Where Nothing is What It Seems!! Review: After 710 reviews, I wonder what can be said about this classic tale of imagination and fun. Sarah (Jennifer Connelly) hasa just made a terrible wish, and wished her baby brother would be taken away by goblins, only she figures out the wish comes true. The Goblin King (David Bowie) has whisked the boy off to his castle to be goblinized, and Sarah must rescue him. Between Sarah and the castle stands the LABYRINTH, a magical mesmerizing world of mazes, mystery, and spellbinding excitement, a world where all sorts of tricky things take place, and Sarah enters it. There are so many interesting characters, and it's a film for the entire family. There's music, dancing, and the background and costumes are marvelous. And there's a wonderful ending. Highly recommended!!!
Rating: Summary: Ever since I was a Child... Review: When I was 4 years old I was introduced to this Jim Henson classic. Ever since then I have loved this wonderful movie of fairy tale and fantasy. Bowie plays a wonderful role as Jareth, the Goblin King. His mysterious glare gives him both the hip rocker look that would attrack a young audience director Jim Henson was looking for, and the evil appeal needed for his role. I was walking through Wal-Mart the other day when I saw this Masterpiece on DVD and snagged it while I could. The special features were bland but the Making of was a real treat. Hopefully there are others out there sharing the same interest I do in this film.
Rating: Summary: A must see movie for anyone! Review: This movie is and will forever be a classic. It is one image that sticks out in my early childhood. Now that I'm older, I STILL think this movie is spectacular. The creativity and art that went into this movie is overwhelming. It's all there: the set designs, costumes, and especially the puppets are all beautifully constructed. I consider it to be a real treat to watch the product of intensive work and collaborative artistic talent. Often humorous and exciting, the Labyrinth is a movie for all ages. Buy the DVD version for a fascinating inside look on the creation of the puppet characters!
Rating: Summary: Labryinth, indeed. Review: As a child this movie ruled my life. As an adult I can see why. Everything about this movie is magical. The sets are amazing, the songs are catchy and funny, the characters fantastical. Also as an adult I can see the strings and all that especially with a crystal clear picture on this DVD. But this DVD has so many great extras even hearing a young Jennifer Connelly talk about her future after this whether she will stay an actress or become a carpenter is funny. The behind-the-scenes stuff goes in depth about the execution of the puppets and the amount of energy and skill needed to make these inanimate or otherwise nonexistant creatures come to life, and interact with living people seamlessly. With all the hype of computer generation and animation of the like this handmade classic still holds up after all these years.
Rating: Summary: Jim Henson At His Best Review: Labyrinth is one of the best works ever to come out of Jim Henson's imagination and not to be missed by fans of his work. Sarah (played by Jennifer Connelly), a young woman who longs for an imaginary fairy tale world free of her crybaby younger brother must solve the labyrinth to rescue him from the Goblin King (David Bowie). The labyrinth of course is populated largely by the whacky puppet creations of Henson's imagination, from the detachable-head Fire Gang to ogre-like Ludo to the goblins themselves. Bowie performs most of the soundtrack, pairing his glam-rock 80's music well with the lighthearted antics of the film. Overall, Labyrinth is a movie easily enjoyed not just by children but by those young at heart of all ages.
