Summary: Great Fantasy Movie from the 80's.
Review: From Jim Henson, fresh off doing " The Dark Crystal" has done
another Fantastic fantasy film that also gained a Cult following.
It's about a fraustrated Babysitter ( Jennifer Connely) that sends his baby Brother away to the Goblin King ( David Bowie)
and must rescue him by going through a giantic maze infested with Monsters. It's very fun and imaginative film that makes Jim Henson such a genius.

Summary: Good fantasy
Review: David Bowie allowed to go over the top (but fortunately staying a tiny bit restrained)...

Jennifer Connelly (beautiful, a little whining, though the plot requires it of her; from her pre-R days)...

Muppets galore, doing their thing...

Great tunes, that fit the movie...

Worth watching a couple times.

Summary: Fantastic fantasy
Review: This cult movie had probably stood the test of time to become one of the all-time greats of fantasy cinema. In 'Labyrinth' Jennifer Connoly is a typical teen, torn between adults that don't understand her and her baby brother that she resents having to babysit for. Her flitting wish for her brother to be spirited away by goblins comes true though, and an 'Alice In Wonderland'-type story follows when she realises her responsibilities.

The best thing that this movie has going for is probably Jennifer Connoly, a fantastic actress that's finally beginning to make it in Hollywood after performances in 'Requiem For A Dream' and 'A Beautiful Mind'. Here she manages just the right amount of angst, frustration and vulnerability of our teenage heroine. David Bowie plays the goblin king in a shameless role of self-promotion, but since the goblin king is over-the-top anyway, this actually kind of fits. The world itself meanwhile is absolutely magical. Created by Jim Henson's Creature Workshop, it's dazzling to watch. Thankfully it's completely free of cutesy creatures - everything in 'Labyrinth' is ugly, evil or both. I particularly liked the small ogre at the beginning that kills the dainty little fairies. There are also some relatively troubling ideas here to say that this is often referred to as a children's movie. For instance, the Escher-like hands that reach out of the wall and several menacing creatures along the way.

Alongside this totally immersing fantasy world though, are side-issues of the journey of adolescense which, whilst clear, are never rammed down your throat. Wonderfully performed, realised and completely watchable, 'Labyrinth' is a classic of its genre.

Summary: Wizard of Oz meets Rock n Roll muppets
Review: Jennifer Connelly's early appearance on the screen in Jim Henson's The Labryinth is an excellent juxtapositon of make- believe and adventure cleverly disguising the journey from childhood through the labyrinth of adolescence into the composure of adulthood and integration of the inner child within us all. Meant to provoke adult's awareness of their own similar journey and keep kid's attention as Connelly's character faces off with David Bowie as the goblin king. It is a gas!!!

Summary: You remind me of the babe. What babe? The babe with the power
Review: When I was 5 (I'm 18 now) I used to run for this tape at our local Blockbuster. I LOVED this movie...and at such a young age I couldn't really appreciate the wittiness of it. Now that I'm older, and have approximately seen this movie 1,000 times, I still love it. There is just something so magical about it. To me, Sarah was the quinessential young girl bordering on adulthood. She definitly had Peter Pan syndrome, but that was ok. Sarah was also gutsy, she had the gall to do something most older siblings only dreamed about...sending her younger brother Toby to the goblins. So when the hunky Gobling King, Jareth (played by a superb David Bowie) came to fufill her wish...she rebelled. And then being faced with solving the labyrinth in 13 hours she had the guts to actually SOLVE it. This movie is excellent. Good music, lots of adventure, and the age old story of a young girl finding herself in the fairytale land of her dreams. But Sarah is no Alice in Wonderland...so give this movie a go. And you might find yourself in the Underground.

Summary: your fantasies come true
Review: Have you ever dreamed of a magic world build upon the honor, the wisdom, the intelligence and the true love? This is the place. Take yourself for a moment to that dream and enjoy the trip among strange creatures, tricky puzzles and romantic moments. Something of Escher brigthness, something of David Bowie incredible vision.

Summary: David Bowie's best role!
Review: In the the 80's, a load of fantasy movies was released, both animated movies and real movies, and 'Labyrinth' was one of the best, and you have to watch it sometimes to find out what's really going on, i think you never get tired of watching this philosophical fantasy movie.
I think that David Bowie should have won an Oscar for his acting as The Goblin King, he is not only evil, but both smart and he shows his heart.
The art direction is dazzling, the acting and the many different characters is too, and the music and the songs are outstanding, but the movie gets slow at times.
The Goblin King, Sir Didymus and Ludo steals every scene!
If you love fantasy movies, buy this classic masterpiece!

Summary: Anyone for a slightly used version instead? Where was Sting?
Review: I thought I would like this movie a lot because of the excellent Jim Henson "Dark Crystal" movie that came out before. Like Dark Crystal, the characters were wonderful and better in Labyrinth. Except the bad new is David Bowie ruined the movie. I think Bowie grabbed some old 80's tunes he wrote way back that were so bad they never made it to record. They don't fit into this movie. His acting and music make the film like a horrible music video from the 80's. I couldn't stomach his tunes on this and if the director had any sense he would have cut them all. As far as his acting, anyone in the street would have been as good but he is just fair at best here. I never disliked David Bowie in the past but he damages this movie to make it not worthy to buy and almost not even a rental. They should have picked Sting!
