Summary: Too many characters, plenty of plot, not enough depth
Review: I am a Harry Potter fan. I've read all of the books twice. I also recently saw the movie. Quite frankly I was disapointed with the script.Sure, thr idea was amazing. Hogwarts came to life with moving paintings or stairs. Quidditch is the new all time sport. And the effects were amazing too!The story might have had it's differences from the book, but you could expect that anyway.

What I found was that they introduce characters without any emotions. It's like we were introduced to a world of robots.WILL-ON-LY-ACT-IF-GET-PAID. Why can't Harry cry when he sees his family for the first time in the mirror? Why can't Percy be more of a (...) or Fred and George more destructive? Why is Dumbledore missing that sparkle in his eye?Why can't we really see the shock on Harry's face when he finds out he's a wizard and gets introduced to this amazing world that's all his? Away from the Dursleys... A happier life. Wouldn't that mean more to you if you were in that situation? A tear? Believing it's all a dream?

I personally think it's a little overrated. Maybe if the director, Chris Colombus, did take in consideration all my suggestions, it would make the movie very long. So what? It would be worth it. Most definately!!

Then again, maybe it's just me.

Review: "BLOODY BRILLIANT"! Ron's words say it all! This movie could not have been better cast. Daniel Radcliff is so charming and adorable. Rupert Grint is quirky and cute. I just love the movie so much. Three thumbs up!!

Summary: Fantastic!
Review: I am one of the few reviewers on this page who has never read a Harry Potter book. I own the first one, but I haven't gotten around to opening it yet. Nevertheless, I found the film enormously entertaining (and not confusing at all). When I know that a film has been adapted from a novel, I always harbor the hope that the filmmakers will take advantage of the more fully imagined written version to really present a world with more texture and depth than the average film. This is especially important in the case of fantasy films. It appears that director Chris Columbus, screenwriter Steve Kloves, and everyone else involved has done just that. Great cast. Great story. Great job. Looking forward to the next one.

Summary: The Best Movie I Have Seen
Review: Ok, this is a WONDERFUL movie. I enjoyed it so much that I have seen it twice already (...). I have to say the kids did an EXCELLENT job and that Director Chris Columbus did a great job too. I can't wait for the other movies. If you have read the book, you will find a few changes but it makes the movie good. If J.K. Rowling approves of it, I do too.

Summary: Total Enchantment
Review: I absolutely loved this movie. Theypaid great attention to the tiniestdetails from the book and the castwas just wonderful, from top to bottom.Daniel Radcliffe, especially, as HarryPotter absolutely captured the verysoul of Harry----just something abouthim lets you know that this (Harry) isa very special boy. Somehow you cansee that while he may be downtrodden byhis Muggle relatives, he has depths tohim that will not allow him to givein. This courage serves him well later!Watching this movie was like seeingeverything you pictured in your headas you were reading the book----theyjust got it all perfect! I loved it and I plan to go again! (And by theway, I'm 50 years old!)

Summary: Harry Potter
Review: For Harry Potter fans, this is a visual treat. However, if you want to truly appreciate the intricacies of the plot and the characters as more than two dimensional beings, read the book! The movie is like icing on the cake. Without the cake itself, it is just fluff.

Summary: Great disappointment
Review: The adaption is great! - but the movie isn't. Chris Columbus has succeeded americanizing it, and therefore removed the magic of the original book. However, it is entertaining and well done, except for certain moments and the end of the film, who contains the American dubblemoral, which I dislike very much. So, hope they will succeed doing the next film and I still have faith in this team. They're on the right track...

Summary: Worth watching, but not as good as the book - as expected
Review: As is inevitable with anything Harry Potter, opinion is divided as to the suitability and accuracy of the movie. Most Harry Potter fans I know waited in anxious anticipation for the release of the movie. It's ok, we can breathe a sigh of relief.

Chris Columbus uses his experience in films such as Home Alone and Stepmom to bring out the magic in the film. Many people complained that the actors often didn't match up to the descriptions in the book. I personally feel this is a moot point. The actors did a superb job. I was a little disappointed in some scenes featuring Radcliffe and Grint who's roles looked staged, but on the whole they both did a great job in conveying their roles. Arguably the best child-actor in the movie was Emma Watson as Hermione. She strikes the perfect balance between aloofness and still wanting to be a part of Harry and Rons' adventures.

The adults do a tremendous job in their roles too - all except Ian Hart as Professor Quirrel (who didn't stutter enough) perform perfectly, as does Oliver Wood.

Top marks must go to the script writers who must have worked tirelessly to avoid offending loyal Harry supporters. For the most part, they did an excellent job. The film was too long and too short at the same time. Two and a half hours is a bit much to keep your concentration on the plot (that is, if you haven't read the book) whilst it's too short to include all the scenes that appear in the book. Of particular note is the introduction, which goes by in a flash and, if you haven't read the book, may lead to confusion.

Again, top marks for the scenery and visual effects. If the Quidditch match isn't exactly as you'd expect, then you must have read the book wrong! Splendid graphics are used throughout the film - Harry's cloak, the flying keys and Firenze are all top notch.

Those who've read the book will be a bit disappointed by the film but not nearly as much as they might have expected...

Summary: Fun and Magical
Review: Harry Potter is a fun and magical fantasy. The special effects were great. The kids were terrific. I hope they all return for all the sequels.
