Rating: Summary: Lengend Hermy The Great has spoken. Review: There is nothing like a good, evil versus good story. I love this movie. Of course there are types who would hate it. As there are for all movies. If you're the type who is shy to fantasy stories, if you think there not for adults, then you would hate it. If your one of those people who analyse movies to death, who prob for flaws, you'll hate it. If your one of those people who are easily annoyed by older special effects you'll hate it. Now why do I like it so much? Well for one thing I am a huge fantasy si fi fan. I love the scenery in this movie. Which is mind you not a realistic look, but more of an artistic dream like look. We have the heavenly forest look, the sparkling yet dead winter forest look, the hellish realm of the Dark Lord look. The main reason to see this movie is for the evil Lord. This is still the most impressive demon to ever be imagined. Although the movie is pretty old, the evil Lord was done so well, he looks more chilling then some of the creatures now created by ILM. So if you haven't seen this movie yet, and are playing with the idea just do it. I mean it's only two bucks to rent the thing right?
Rating: Summary: Enchanting Review: In a previues review on this film I wrote about the Dualistic nature of this planet. However duality is turning it's self inside out. As I speak. The nature of this planet is changing. And in truth there is only the great light. The battle seen in this movie reminds us of the battle thas has ben going on the planet for so many years. The battle is ending. And soon we will witness the true light of love. In Oneness. Duality is ending. It is time....to end the game.
Rating: Summary: Magical and Inspirational.... Review: Una, Gum, and the Unicorns are amongst my favoirte characters. The story is based on true love. And the dualistic nature of this planet. Ridley Scott did a wonderful job on choosing the actors and the costumes are fabulous! The music is amazingly enchanting. Tangerine dream is truly ahead of their time. I like to see this movie often beacuse it sparkes the imagination to beleive in the good in man.
Rating: Summary: Legend Review: The best Fantasy film of all time. Classic struggle between good and evil, with a twist: "What is Light without Darkness?"
Rating: Summary: a fantasy of good vs. evil Review: I remember seeing Legend on the "big screen" and being absolutely stunned by the depth and texture of the film's sets, the magical feeling that seemed to leak into the theatre. Tim Curry's "evil" character is fearsome, the makeup/costuming are stunning. The princess is actually one of the few fairy tale princesses out there who isn't a complete dimwit. (Much as I love them, they often are a bit embarassingly helpless). Tom Cruise plays the naive "young hero" quite well, and his "superstar" personality wasn't so strong in this movie (in other words, you barely notice it's TOM CRUISE!!! like in other movies with him). This movie is for anyone who loves fantasy-- wherein the plot "good vs. evil" is enough to define the point. Visually stunning, dreamlike. I loved it, and it's a definite must-see.
Rating: Summary: Legend: a TV commercial for Middle-Earth Review: Hopefully the additional footage in the European version of Legend assists the film in coherency. Because if the US cut is anything, it's a good example of a lavish and ambitious production that buried its script. As such, there really isn't too much here you can take with you after you've seen it. Ridley Scott had his heart in the right place -- Legend is a universally recognized Jungian consciousness, where archetypes replace personalities. Unfortunatley, the result is not caring one bit about anyone you see on the screen. Three elements of ancient cosmology --fire, water, earth-- are similarly dominant throughout the story: Jack swims underwater, breaks through ice, is covered by snow, journeys into the earth, battles through steam and fire, and even harnesses the power of the sun. Yes, yes, it's a beautiful film and Tim Curry is the single biggest reason to watch it... But the film drowns in its art direction. Indeed, the film had a very troubled production. A soundstage was burned to the ground causing the film to be shot on thrown together sets. And of course we all know about the terrible re-edit by Universal Studios. This includes removing the score by Jerry Goldsmith. While Tangerine Dream wrote one (maybe two) beautiful passages for the film, the nature of the story demanded a classical composition. While some might wax sentimental about the electronic instrumentation, it prevents the film from being timeless. Instead, it reduces Legend to a piece of 80's nostalgia.
Rating: Summary: Interesting movie indeed. Review: I just rented this movie because I was looking for a good fantasy flick to watch. It's hard pickings in the fantasy video selection these days. Hopefully Lord of the Rings will come up soon in the theater. I decided upon Legend, to bring home and watch. I will tell you that the beginning scenes were quite stunning and magnificently beautiful indeed. Especially the first scene involving the unicorns, as they frolicked about in that stream. But I thought that the rest of the movie was pretty wierd. It could have used a bit more action scenes, too, with Jack using a sword a bit more i mean. I would actually give this maybe 3 1/2 stars purely for its eye candy, making it visually stunning at some points, in the beginning. Other than that, I probably won't watch it again while it's still rented.
Rating: Summary: Six Months Later & Still No DVD! Why, Universal?! Why?! Review: Everybody's still waiting for Legend to come out on DVD. And 6 months after it's initial release date, it seems we're still no closer to a resolution. I don't know what the hold up is for, but I wish they'd resolve it soon. Legend has never even been released in its original aspect ratio (2.35:1) here in the states (on video or Laserdisc), so getting the DVD will be a real treat for everybody. I just wish I knew when that day will be?
At any rate, I do remember seeing some extended scenes of Legend when it was shown on TV. Among them was the scene involving the water hag, Meg, who wanted to eat Tom Cruise. The extended part showed him trying to talk his way out of the ordeal and play to Meg's vanity, referring to her as Mistress Meg. He uses his shield as a mirror for her to look at, while fumbling with his sword to which he drops. Meg tells him he has a sweet tongue then attempts to eat him as he grabs the sword just in time to behead her. I know it was cut !for time, but honestly the scene makes more sense when presented this way.
As for who scores the movie better, it's a toss up for me. I love Jerry Goldsmith, but the trend at the time was to use rock bands to score fantasy type movies (Brit band, Queen for Flash Gordon, Toto for David Lynch's Dune, and Lamahl performing the title track for The Nevereneding Story) and with Tangerine Dream it works just as well. I also enjoyed Bryan Ferry's "Is Your Love Strong Enough" because it really fits well in the fantasy element with its dense but moody atmosphere that it evokes. But then again, Goldsmith wrote the book on fantasy with films like Supergirl and the Star Trek movies. Obviously it comes down to a matter of personal taste. But the film works either way.
So Legend fans, keep the faith alive and never give up. One day, our time will come.
Rating: Summary: I love this movie! Review: This has been one of my favorite movies since I was a little girl and I still love it. It is the ultimate fairy tale movie. The movie creates a changing mood of light and darkness that perfectly mirrors its classic central theme of good vs. evil. It is also the most visually beautiful movie I have ever seen. If you're thinking of watching this one just because Tom Cruise is in it you will probably be disappointed because this isn't one of his typical roles. If you are looking to see something original for a change then rent or buy this movie.
Rating: Summary: no response Review: i tried contacting Universal Pictures to see what is going on with this movie, and no luck. the e-mail form doesn't get sent when you press submit. this movie is excellent in every way. so why won't they re-release it or at least release it on video again.
