Summary: Astounding Masterpiece!
Review: I've never read Tolkien's classic book The Lord Of The Rings, but having seen the movie I'm really looking forward to reading it.This surely is a sign of an excellent thoroughtly enjoyable movie. The Fellowship Of The Ring is the first part of the trilogy, but I simply can't wait another few years to find out how this fascinating story will conclude.

Even though it lasts for practically 3 hours the whole movie just seemed to breeze by.The audiences attention is gripped from the very first moments as the scenario is set.It includes a spectacular scene as the forces of men seek to protect Middle Earth from the forces of evil. It's going to go down in cinematic history as one of those truly spectacular moments.Yet it continues to have startling settings throughout the film that are really breath-taking-from scenes in forests to gothic castles, from cute hobbit villages to the dark underground mines-there are just so many amazing scenes. The effects are incredible too.The detail and make up of the dark soldiers and warriors,to the computer animated effects of trolls and fire-breathing monsters-it really is a visual feast.

I have heard some people say that the opening film is a bit chaotic in that the viewer is bombarded with hordes of strange characters and that some may be confused by the introductions of strange new worlds and all their own particular nuances.I have to say I felt this was far from true. The movie moves along at a reasonable rate so that it's easy for the viewer to become familiar with all these characters and worlds-and yet it doesn't delve into over-complicated detail. Each of the characters in the Fellowship is developed enough to become pretty interesting.Even better are some of the people they meet on their journey in particular the part played by Cate Blanchett. There are no weak performances Christopher Lee is scary self,Elijah Woods is truly excellent in the part of Frodo Baggins.Funnily enough Liv Tyler gets a very prominent billing in the credits yet she doesn't have a very prominent part in the film-maybe she becomes more important in the second one. There is no point in me trying to divulge the story as so much happens plus it would sort of ruin some of the films many surprises.

The one thing I did feel was that the ending was really building you up for the second movie.Taken in itself it would seem to be a pretty weak and unresolved ending-but then this really whets the appetite for the next part.As I said I can't wait that long to see what happens so I've just got to read the book. This is one of the most specatcular movies you'll ever see.I bet it's sort of like what Star Wars was like for the people who first saw that way back in the 70's.Unmissable!

Summary: Simply the Best Movie Ever Made
Review: I never review products, books, movies, etc, but I have to with Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring. I saw this movie with the mindset that it can't be as good as the books, (I have read the Lord of the Rings Trilogy every year for the past 20 years). The cast was truly outstanding, the choice of film location couldn't be better and the movie absolutely complements the novels. If there is any justice in the world, this will win best picture & best director at the Oscars.....

Summary: Beyond anyone's spectatives!!!!!
Review: I live in Bolivia and I was standed two hours in order to get my ticket, i got a seat very far from the scenary, but equally i get shocked!!, i am a grat fan of the trilogy, and even when there are some transgretions to the book (Arwen makes the Glorfindel's part in rescueing Frodo, and in the prancey poney tavern there's no song about a man in the moon and a cow, whit frodo dancing) it is a very faithful version, an the estetic aspect of the film COULDN'T BE BETTER, the music is AWESOME, even enya sings in it. Well making it short IS THE BEST FILM I HAD SEE IN MY ENTIRE LIFE (and i had see a lot!!) and i cant wait to next december to see the second part. Oh... I'm in love

Summary: Amazing
Review: I never knew how much I could love a movie until The Fellowship of the Ring.

Beyond the breathtaking New Zealand scenery, the special effects, the thrilling bad guys and the amazing fight scenes, it was the acting and the relationships between characters that really impressed me. I have seen my fair share of movies in my lifetime and this is by far one of, if not THE, most supurbly acted movies I have ever seen. The casting was brilliant.

Elijah Wood simply took my breath away as Frodo. Through the whole experience I felt like I knew him and could feel the anguish he was experiencing. He is literally the best actor his age in Hollywood. Sean Astin was perfect as the loyal conscience of the film. I really believed that he and Frodo cared deeply for eachother, and in that way the film and book are very similiar.

Billy Boyd and Dominic Monaghan were the perfect Pip and Merry. Though they were much less goofy in the books I enjoyed their spirit. Quite often when I felt that things were getting too harsh they would do or say something perfect to lighten the moment. Also, their transformation from silly boys to brave fighters willing to risk their lives for the fellowship was inspiring.

Viggo Mortenson was a perfect Aragorn, both mysterious but approachable and kind at the same time. Liv Tyler was good as Arwen, her Elvish was excellent, and she made you see why Aragorn needed to get through the journey. Ian McKellan seemed born to play Gandalf. He perfectly mixed power and leadership with humor and kindness.

Sean Bean was excellent as Boromir, the human who is tempted by the power of the ring. His last scene with Aragorn is one of the most touching I have witnessed. John Ryss-Davies is hilarious as the ax-weilding dwarf with many rules such as 'no one tosses a dwarf.' Orlando Bloom was stunning as the agile warrior elf Legolas, who has been proclaimed by Bloom himself 'the eyes and the ears of the fellowship.' To watch him run on top of snow is to see the true grace of an elf. This young man is truely one of the most gifted actors of his generation.

All in all, the Fellowship of the Ring far surpassed any expectations I had. I felt a wider range of emotions in just three hours then I ever have at a film. I was scared, excited, sad, worried, and above all, truely thrilled to be brought into the world of Middle-Earth, where the brave fight for all.

Summary: Too Many Dark Scenes
Review: I read the books and I was really pleased that a live action film was being made. I kept thinking, hey the film is beautiful--gorgeous--and the characters are just how I had imagined--but the computer generated effects were too hard to see and the film is too darned DARK--literally in the visual sense. It is a pet peeve of mine.

Summary: Amazing, simply amazing!
Review: I waited a little longer to see this film. I figured I had waited this long, why not a few more weeks? I went to see it with my wife (who has not read the book) on a Monday morning and had the theatre completely to ourselves. I'm glad I waited. It was like watching it in my living room. (or maybe Michael Jackson's living room.)

It's hard to describe the impact this film had on us. It was literally breathtaking. It took me almost all day to get the lumps out of my throat. Not that it was a tearful movie, it was just that emotional to behold. To see Tolkien's vision so diligently produced for the screen was well above any expectations we had.

Bare in mind that this movie is quite different that the book. There are numerous characters dropped and scenes that were significantly modified from the original. However, I think it's safe to say that the screenplay was written with the understanding that some things would have to left out or modified. The thing is that they never took away from the core storyline. As long as that is in tact, we are in good shape.

The great thing about the movie is that (I hope) it will encourage many more people to read these novels. If just one person picks up the books after seeing the movie, then I think Peter Jackson has done the job he was tasked to do.

A final thought for everyone from a long time reader of the books...

...folks, you ain't seen nothin' yet!

Summary: Brilliant Movie with many majestic shots
Review: I never had a liking for movies more than 2.5 hours long but Lord of the Rings has been a pleasant exception. Based on the first book of the legendary fantasy trilogy Lord of the Rings by Tolkien, Hollywood has brought an classic-epic to life through the consummate theatrical skills of Elijah Wood and many others, including Liv Tyler.

The story is very well paced and the producer makes explicit efforts to follow closely with the book, capturing each poignant moments, enhanting poems and inspiring wise words on the big screen.

Despite the otherwise dreadful length of the show, the viewer is captivated in the beauty of the imaginary 'lands' in the Middle Earth, and is riding through a myriad of places from subterranean halls erected by pillars as tall as skyscrapers in the world's biggest cities to The Great River that leads to the entrance of Gandall greeted by two eye widening statues reminiscent (laughably) of Hitler and Statue of Liberty (kidding).

I am a little concerned, though, about some disturbing monsters and violence involved. Not that they would diminish the enigma of the movie but I find it unsuitable for anyone below 16. Very unhealthy also to indulge in fantasy for a full 3 hour period, I feel. Besides that, I heard from a friend that the movie did, for dramatic effect and simplification purpose, did change one of the motives of a character. I minused one star also for some scenes which seem quite computerised (waterfall especially and the Bridge underground).

Overall, a recommended movie, but be sure to catch the sequels lest you are flummoxed by the ending... It's Book 1 of 3 anyway. Did anyone say he has 9 hours to spare for movies? (Fellowship of the Rings/Book 1 is 3 hours long on screen, so far)

Summary: More Than I Could Have Imagined
Review: For the first time, I think I have truly seen a movie that lived up to that over-used phrase,"beyond imagination," and I am speaking as one who has loved and re-read Tolkien's trilogy for 35 years. I just saw the movie for the sixth time (which will not by any means be my last!), and I was as swept up in it as if I was seeing it for the first time. If anything, just as the book does, it moves you more deeply each time. I would see it over and over just for Elijah Wood's performance. He isn't just the perfect Frodo; he is a Frodo beyond my wildest dreams, his performance touching and graceful and heart-felt and with that touch of "almost-Elvish beauty" that Tolkien describes. And Sam! I would not have thought they could find an actor in these cynical days to play that selfless love for his master that pulls them both through to the end, but they did. Not just between Sam and Frodo, but between almost any two characters, there are scenes that would have alone been worth the price of admission, scenes that even (dare I say it?) improve upon Tolkien, as in the breaking of the Fellowship. Boromir is a nobler and more tragic figure than he ever was in the book, and his death is heart-rending. Arwen's saving of Frodo, though not in the book, provides the first of many scenes that moved me to tears - and continue to move me, no matter how many times I see this movie. I don't have space to write about Gandalf, or Aragorn, or Legolas... but they are perfect, as is the scenery, the seamless special effects, the score. I cannot wait to see the two sequels, knowing that the material is in the hands of artists who have proven they cannot possibly disappoint me.

Summary: Just like the book!
Review: I have seen The Lord of the Rings twice since it came out in theaters. I absolutely love it!!! There are some kick... archery scenes with Legolas(Orlando Bloom) who is very attractive. Elijah Wood is perfect for Frodo....he has those big blue eyes and a brave heart! Just what I had pictured Frodo to be! The horses were magnificent! All it takes is a big black hoof with blood dripping down it to make your heart race. And Sam was loyal, brave and funny. As were the other hobbits. It was wonderful and soo much better if you have read the book! It's worth your while to go and see it! Trust me!

Summary: The essence was true
Review: This was an incredible movie, with many visually amazing things. To bring to life a book like this is incredible accomplishment and I loved every minute of this. From the incredible backgrounds to the characters, this was just about as I'd imagined it when reading the books. I felt the story remained true to the book, though many details had to be forsaken, and I loved the way the music helped guide you through the film. Overall, one of the greatest movies I've seen.
