Summary: Beautifully crafted film - loyal to the spirit of the text
Review: Wow! The special effects were remarkably and seemlessly integrated into the best adaptation (by-far) of The Lord of the Rings. The top three scenes: the cave troll, Gandalf and the Balrog, and Lady Galadriel of Lothlorien. Powerful performance by Ian McKellen as Gandalf. Unfortunately, even after splitting the story into three full-length movies there still isn't enough room to do justice to the actual books. There is more character development in the books, more identification with the main characters. For example, when the sorrowful scenes played out in the movie, I remained unmoved. Maybe it's only me, but there wasn't enough time with the characters to feel any emotion for/with them. That's my only criticism, however, on the whole I loved the film (I saw it twice). "I am a servant of the secret flame!"

Summary: The Best
Review: This movie is the best I've ever seen. ALMOST as good as the books and that is saying a lot.

The characterization for the main characters is almost like I origianally imagined them, the effects are amazing, and the score is indescribably good!

I love this movie!!!

Summary: Classic literary piece becomes a classic piece of cinema!
Review: What can I say that would convey my enthusiastic satisfaction and instigation to the reader of this to go see this film? Would me writing that this film (trilogy) is truly one that I believe will be in the pantheon of great cinema masterpieces help? Or how about this? Try to imagine the pressures of bringing one of the most beloved series of books of all time to the big screen. It must have been enormous! Just think of whom the director, Peter Jackson, had to satisfy here... You have the devote Tolkien fans and the family descendants who want the film to keep true to the heart and soul of the books. Then you have the movie production company, and the general movie-going public who want a blockbuster style film that rakes in the money. And lastly you have the critics and Award giving institutes that measure films 'value' to the world of film. I guess it's still a little early to say it (but what the heck, right?) but I think P.J. scored on all 3 accounts. Tolkien aficionados (I'd like to include myself in this category) were generally pleased on P.J.'s interpretation of the story, and while keeping to the outline of the story it was appreciated that he added some flare here and there for a bit of a pleasant surprise. I'm sure that the general public and the production company are more than pleased. LOTR has already broken into the top ten biggest grossing movies of all time, so obviously people are going to see it, and digging into their wallets for more. And critics have raved P.J.'s style and storytelling capability that he has richly brought to the screen, and has at least been recognized by the various Awards factions with multiple nominations and wins already. So what's the bottom line here? This is truly movie making magic at it's finest, and something not to miss. Whether you're a hardcore fan of the books, or just looking for a good film to watch -- this is it. Sure, you're not going to please everyone; that's why there's opinions...just like this review I'm writing. Heck I know people who would not even begin to comprehend this film, and not because it's complex. But you'll have the few who dissent in everything, which is fine and even a good thing -- keeps the one being criticized on their toes, so they can do better the next time. Lastly, I'm glad that something of this Epic magnitude can be made in this day and time that seems to have gotten it all right. I've currently seen the film on the big screen three times, and would love to go again. And finally, Mr. George Lucas... I hope you took some notes on this film. Cheers Peter!

Summary: For Those Who Have Waited to See This Movie...
Review: Since I usually wait to see a great movie till after the hype dies down, I am a late-comer to the excitement over this movie. Having said that, let me start the hype ALL OVER AGAIN!! Fabulous acting, superb cinematography, a terrific story line, very appropriate actors playing their parts, costuming and set design that really takes you there. I found nothing in this movie that I didn't like. I have NOT read the Hobbitt books, and from what feed-back I've gotten, that's a good thing for the movie goer, since those who have read the Trilogy feel there are so many things "left out," but this being my first exposure to The Lord of the Rings, my expectations were met and surpassed! I have promised myself NOT to read the books until after the last movie has been seen, just so I can be thoroughly delighted by the next two episodes!! As an adult, I found the plot and the action to be engrossing, but I believe any child over 8 would be just as pleased even though the movie is longer than most. I sat for the entire length of the show, and left wanting MORE! I actually can't wait til next year for the 2nd installment! Five BIG stars from me...and I'll be there opening night come next December!

Summary: Better Than I Expected
Review: ...P>From start to finish, this film held my attention. Rare in and of itself, the portrayals of Gandalf by McKellan and Frodo by Wood are thier best performances to date. Peter Jackson did an excellent job on this film. Everything looks as it should, as I imagined. The Shire, the Faire city, Mount Doom, all of it.

Pacing was good, color was great. Music was just right.
Am I gushing? Yes. So what? I want people to know that this film, while intense in places, is no more violent than 2-3 Saturday morning cartoons and much better written.

The 2 death scenes were done tastefully, with a minimum of blood and you felt thier loss...as it should be.

I recently picked up a screening disc of this film and will probably watch it again a few times before the retail one is available. Why? Because I really liked it.

Summary: What an Experience!
Review: The Lord of the Rings was the very first Fantasy series I read as a kid, and I always wished someone would make it into a movie. This was well worth the wait! I don't think they could have chosen a better group of actors to portray these characters if they tried! I saw the movie 11 times, and would have gone more if it hadn't been removed from the theatres. Until it came out, Star Wars (the original) had been my all-time favorite. Well, guess what? It's been replaced. To anyone who has not seen it, please do! I don't think you'll be disappointed. I took a friend who had no clue about Tolkien, or fantasy, and she came out of the theatre practically panting for the next one! This is a movie not to be missed.

Summary: The Fellowship of the Ring
Review: I thought this film was fantastic! I had already read the books, including the hobbit, about 2 years ago. To tell you the truth, I was preparing myself because I thought it would be a total let down, movie adaptations usually are. But to my great surprise nothing was spared in the making of this amazing film. A huge thanks to Peter Jackson and the cast. Now all I want to know is when this will be released on dvd? Soon I hope!

Summary: Lord of the rings
Review: I loved this movie!! I grew up on these books by J.R.R. Tolkin. I though the director Peter Jackson did a great job keeping the movie as close to the book as possible. He even ended the movie at the same point that the book ends. I have never been to a movie that was so close to the book. This movie was the nearest I have ever seen. I recomenned reading the books and then going to see the movie you will be impressed.
