Rating: Summary: San Francisco has it right! Review: I've already reviewed this movie when I saw it the day after it came out, but after reading San Francisco's review, I had to laugh. I am a mother of two kids and it was actually me that wanted to see this movie, for no other reason than I am fascinated with this whole pirate thing. I made them go with me because I couldn't talk my husband into going. Then I made them go again. When I began talking about going again, they began to wonder what was wrong with me. Before I saw this movie, the name Johnny Depp meant nothing to me. In fact, I saw him in Edward Scissorhands years ago. That's it. However, since I've seen his stellar performance, his Oscar deserving performance, his absolutely stunning talent, I had to see him in more movies. I bought From Hell and rented Blow and we watched them this weekend. He was spectacular in both of those films. My husband said to me tonight, rather blandly, "What Johnny Depp movie do you have for us to watch tonight?" I'm dying to bring home Sleepy Hollow, but he's beginning to think I may pack up and chase the globe looking for Johnny Depp, so I'll have to wait until this Depp thing dies down a bit before I sneak that one in on him. I too have been surfing the net looking for information on him, much to my husband's chagrin. (He's caught me a couple times). So I understand where San Francisco is coming from. I'm a perfectly normal person living a perfectly normal life and suddenly, I want to get my hands on anything he has ever done. I was stunned by what a wonderful actor he was. He grabs you from the very first scene in Pirates and you can't take your eyes off him throughout the entire movie. And you don't want to. You may miss some quirky little comment he makes or some silly facial expression. And as far as "swooning" goes, I've never swooned over an actor before, but I came darn close to doing that when he appeared on the screen. I just thought "Wow". And I'm wondering why I never noticed him before. The movie was spectacular and of course, I'll buy it when it comes out. It is still playing in theaters here and I have been trying to think of a nonchalant way to ask my husband to go to the movies with me! If Johnny Depp doesn't win an Oscar for this performance than I have to say the Oscars are rigged!
Rating: Summary: Forget Orlando Bloom--Go see this movie for Johnny Depp!! Review: I was able to catch a sneak preview of this movie before it was released to the public and all I can remember is before seeing it, a 100 girls were waiting anxiously for the release of the "new movie starring Orlando Bloom". Well I must say after seeing this movie, Orlando Bloom is a mere high-school melodrama actor compared to what Johnny Depp brought to the screen. Sure Mr. Bloom brought his bubble-gum boyish looks to the screen for all the teenie-bopper girls--but that is ALL that he brought, he somehow left his acting abilities behind somewhere on the way to the filmming of this movie. Thank god Johnny Depp was there to make up for what Orlando could have ruined. Depp's role as the imfamous Captain Jack Sparrow just made the movie phenominal bringing action, laughs, drama, and overall superb acting to the screen. From the first scene of Sparrow, I knew that this movie was going to be held together single-handedly by Johnny Depp. And the performance he gave made this movie easily one of my favorite movies this summer. I won't say too much about the plot because it is nothing too complicated: Jack Sparrow, a drunken "easy-going" pirate, is on a quest to find the Black Pearl and become the rightful captain of it. Along with Will Turner (Bloom) they set out to find the ship and rescue the governer's daughter from the clutches of the pirate crew. Needless to say--very easy to follow. Produced by the legendary Jerry Bruckheimer(Crimson Tide, Bad Boys 1&2, Con Air, The Rock, Enemy Of The State, etc.), Pirates of the Caribbean comes with a bang with some great action scenes, some truly hilarious moments, and of course, an amazing performance from Johnny Depp. So for all you wannabe "Mrs. Orlando Bloom" girls--I suggest you stick to watching "Lord of the Rings" where there is no actor that is taking the complete lead. Because in Pirates of the Carribean, Johnny Depp steals the show by a long shot. Sorry Orlando--better luck next time. Maybe with some acting classes added onto your boyish good-looks, you could one day possibly live up to Johnny Depp's standards. Just possibly... "Pirates of the Caribbean" runs for about 2 hours and 10 minutes. It is rated PG-13 for action violence.
Rating: Summary: Summer's Splash Hit Review: I admit, like a lot of people, the main reason I went to see this movie was to see Orlando Bloom. I know I know, that's a bad reason to want to see something, but to tell you the truth, his part wasn't all that great. He did a wonderful job with what he was given, but honestly I could think of a dozen actors that could have done his part, but I don't think a lot of actors can carry out that British innocence and strength that coincides so well with Bloom. Of course, the best performance was Johnny Depp. It is one of the best performances of his career. I used to hate Johnny Depp before I saw this film, but I have an entire new respect for him. Geoffrey Rush I think was great. He was a great villain. I almost didn't want him to die in the end. The only thing he felt in a long time was coldness and death. Rush did a great job, some very amusing lines as well. Keira Knightly also did a very good job. Her and Bloom are by far the years hottest stars, with some great films for both of them (Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King-Bloom, and Bend it Like Beckham-Knightly) I was pleasantly surprised by this film and now a big fan. What surprises me is how many films I enjoy seem to all fit together. For example, I believe that if you are a fan of the Lord of the Rings films, maybe even the Harry Potter books/movies, you will throughly enjoy this great summer movie.
Rating: Summary: The greatest Disney Movie this summer Review: This movie is the greatest Disney movie I have seen in two years. Jonny Depp, Orlando Bloom, Kiera Knightly, and Geoffery Rush, are all great at their parts. I would highly reccomend this to anyone in the world. As for the PG13 rating, I've grown up watching G-R rated movies and I am ready for the real world, but I don't understand why anyone would say this is too violent for children! "There is too much blood" some people said, but as for that, the only blood is when the girl and Wil Turner get cut on their hands! Its not too much blood! I can understand why some people don't want their young 6 year olds watching it because in todays world some children might be scared of some of the skeletons. I wouldn't have been! Buy this as soon as it comes out or go see it! It also has an excellent soundtrack!
Rating: Summary: Vastly overrated summer-movie fluff... Review: There are some movies that need to be more than two hours long: "Gone With the Wind," "Lawrence of Arabia," "Gladiator," "Magnolia." This summer's blockbuster "Pirates of the Carribean" is DEFINITELY not one that falls into that category, and its main flaw happens to be its drastically overlong running time (two and one half hours). Not only could the editor of the film have spent some more time doing some snipping, but the movie's sugary-sweet submental-script is embarrasingly spare. Its screenwriters MUST have spent a lot of time describing people getting hit in the head with various metal objects (a drinking game could be created with that overdone aspect of the film), for that seems to be a crutch on which the movie unfortunately leans. Yes, I'll agree with most of the rest of the movie-going public and say that Johnny Depp is fantastic in this film - he almost redeems it...almost. Sadly, the movie just goes on and on and on and on, jumping from ship to ship, and "Pirates" never seems to reach solid ground. Depp's performance becomes the only good thing about this movie, and it goes without saying that filmmaker Gore Verbinski ("The Ring") should have just stayed on shore. Is the movie fun? Occasionally...but fun can only last for so long. Maybe DVD is a better medium for "Pirates" after all, though, because I sure could have used a fast-forward button in the theater.
Rating: Summary: The Best Adventure Movie Review: I'd rate this 10,000 stars if I could. I thought this movie was so funny and so adventurous. If you don't see this movie, you're missing out on a big hit. I've never seen such a good movie. You'll love it if you see it!!!
Rating: Summary: major deppth... Review: usually i'm skeptical of movies that were inspired by disney theme park rides, and especially movies with johnny depp in them, but after seeing this movie, i'm totally gaga about the sea, pirates, and disney theme parks. it's a fun romp with its own unique comtemporary spin, and yet it has all the elements of a traditional adventure story. there's everything from romance, to sword fighting, and ships, and blood and gold, and a devestatingly sExAy johnny depp as captain jack sparrow. even his name was cool. the movie's got everything. it's intense enough to get you into the characters and the plot, but light enough that you don't have to cry and mope around for days after seeing it. totally awesome. arr! drink up me hearties, yo ho!

Rating: Summary: Pirates of The Caribbean,Two Thumbs Up (how original... ha!) Review: This is the best movie... ever. It is, as of now, my all time FAVORITE movies... and that, my friends, is one of the highest honors any movie can recieve. Johnny Depp plays the hilarious, crazy, drunken pirate Jack Sparrow... and he plays the part so incredibaly well that the movie could have the worst possible plot, with the worst possible cast, and Johnny Depp would still make it a blockbuster hit. However, that is not the case, since Johnny was backed up with a superb cast including the luscious Orlando Bloom, who plays the blacksmith, Will Turner. This movie leaves the audience in suspence, it leaves them laughing out loud, and it holds on to their attention throughout the film. This movie is absolutely WONDERFUL... I still can not get over the performance Johnny Depp gave in this movie... with his silly facial expressions, his sarcastic humor, his undying wit... he was just, quite simply, Oscar Material in that movie. This is one movie, you must go see... again. and again. and again... and then you buy it on DVD.
