Rating: Summary: A beautifully done movie Review: Although I have not yet read the book and cannot talk of its accuracy, I really enjoyed this movie with its beautiful scenery, fantastic actors, lovablle characters, and humor moments that make the tense moments less tense. All of the actors and actresses are fabulous, and the movie was really well done. The computer animation and special effects are FANTASTIC! I can't even imagine how everything was done to look so gorgeous and realistic. It is a great retelling of a classic story. I took my two year old nephew, and he really enjoyed it! I don't think it's too scary for kids. It's an excellent and enjoyable movie, and I highly recommend it!
Rating: Summary: Best movie ever!!! Review: When we saw the preview for this movie we thought that it would be just another remake on the old classic, nothing special. Then we saw Jeremy Sumpter! He is, in our opinion, the best actor that could have been picked to play Peter. The rest of the cast is great too. Jason Issacs is great as Hook. We really felt that we could understand his character. One more thing: Jeremy, we love you, we are the same age as you, we always keep our windows open!!!
Rating: Summary: "Second star to the right and straight on til morning!" Review: This live-action version of Peter Pan stars Jason Isaacs as Captain Hook and Jeremy Sumpter as Peter. The story begins in London, where motherless Peter has come to listen to stories told by young Wendy (Rachel Hurd-Wood). He takes her and her brothers to Neverland to live the wild pirate life, until it is time for them to return home and grow up. All the characters you remember from your childhood are here: The ticking crocodile (computer-animated and scary), the fiesty Indian Princess, funny Pirate Smee, spunky Tinkerbelle, and even Nana, the dog-nanny. The story is fast-paced to the point of being chaotic at times, and it helps to know the basic plot, or you might be overwhelmed with the lightning-fast scene cuts. The film was photographed almost entirely in dark, moody lighting to heighten the feeling of magic and danger. My favorite parts were the bittersweet moments that bring a tear to one's eye - seeing Mrs. Darling keep vigil for her missing children and their happy homecoming. Jason Isaacs hams it up just right as the dashing and outrageous Captain Hook. His best scenes are the humorous ones (for instance, when he selects which hook to wear for the day). He is also just right as the timid clerk, Mr. Darling. Jeremy Sumpter looks just like Peter should look - beautiful, cocky, and fun-loving. He definitely holds his own opposite the larger-than-life Isaacs. Ludivine Sagnier makes an adorable Tink. She is flirty, possessive, spiteful, and funny, and the movie was always better when she was on. Definitely darker and more sinister than the old Disney version, this film has a lot to offer adults: It is visually stunning and reminds us about the innocence and fun of childhood. Wendy's kiss that saves Peter's life is more sensuous than innocent, however, and Hook also seems to be strangely attracted to the little girl. It's an interesting movie that will put a smile on your face and perhaps a few wistful tears in your eye.
Rating: Summary: It rocked Review: I loved this movie so much. I have already seen it twice in the theatre. I just fell in love with Jeremy Sumpter! I would die to meet him. Hes the same age as me, and hes really cute. The movie is really sweet, and made me cry a couple of times. It was also romantic. thanks. :)
Rating: Summary: A wonderful film for old and young alike Review: We all know the story of Peter Pan. But this movie brings the story of the boy who never grew up, to life. It was fun taking my kids to the movie, mainly because there are so many more themes in the movie that are relevant to me, now as a parent, than when I was my children's ages. The dazzling special effects makes this movie so real to life, it actually will make adults begin to say "I do! I do! I do believe in fairies...."
Rating: Summary: peter pan Review: Peter Pan was a great and interesting movie. I liked how they flew by putting strings up. That was really cool!
Rating: Summary: Not for curmudgeons Review: I think I remember seeing the original 1953 Disney animation movie PETER PAN as a child, and am fairly certain I saw the Mary Martin TV version of 1956. Memory is failing. But I can safely say that neither was as entrancing as this 2003 film production. The fantastical plot surrounds the boy, Peter Pan (Jeremy Sumpter), who never grows old but can fly. (What child doesn't long for that latter talent?) Early on, he captivates the almost-pubescent Wendy Darling (Rachel Hurd-Wood) and her two younger brothers, John (Harry Newell) and Michael (Freddie Popplewell), and he transports them from their Victorian London home to make-believe Neverland, where they must confront and battle the one-armed Captain Hook (Jason Isaacs) and his band of pirates. And don't confuse Neverland with Michael Jackson's ranch of the same name. The residual child within me champions a four-star award for this production, though the curmudgeon side of me screams for only two; this is not riveting entertainment for adults, and I admit to having to stave off mid-show drowsiness. But youngsters should be delighted. That distinction made, however, grown-ups will perhaps be at least gratified by the special effects, which, though not as eye-popping par as those in this year's THE LORD OF THE RINGS: RETURN OF THE KING, are dazzling. To my mind, the best are of Hook's ship flying through the cloud-strewn sky, and the miniature fairy, the mischievous Tinker Bell (Ludivine Sagnier), who weaves a scintillating path through many scenes. There are some fine performances here. The young unknown, Rachel Hurd-Wood, is enchanting, and I hope to see her in more mature roles as she gets older. Even better is Jason Isaacs, who plays both the irrepressible Hook and Wendy's shy father, Mr. Darling - a fact you'd never expect until the ending credits roll. As I sat watching PETER PAN, I pondered what age group the film's creators were hoping to reach. As I've implied earlier, adults may be put to sleep by the plot. I finally decided that 6 to 13 is the approximate target, though there's a definite hint of a nascent and smoldering sexuality between the budding Wendy and her hero Peter that'll go over the heads of the youngest in this group. Let's just call it puppy love, and leave it at that. PETER PAN is an attractive diversion for the young or young at heart.
Rating: Summary: Not What Was Expected Review: I took my 2 and 1/2 year old son to see this and was completely disappointed. We didn't even stay to see the end because it was very BLAH! It wasn't Peter Pan as I remember it. It was the child's version of a love story. Jason Isaacs was great, but the rest of the movie was terrible. The special effects were all right, but nothing spectacular. They looked fake. I would recommend renting this. It just isn't worth the $$$ for a matinee.
Rating: Summary: Good movie, but it dragged too much Review: If you stick to the basic storyline of the original story of Peter Pan, and don't make a musical, it's hard to mess up making a movie. And this movie did NOT mess up. It was right on target. It was entertaining for all ages. It had action. It was funny. The special effects were updated a lot since the last Peter Pan movie was made. They were very good, although they looked like something a kid would imagine (and that was the point). I was sort of suprized at all of the pirates that got killed at the end of the movie, but they were bad anyway! The only problem with this movie, which is why I'm giving it 3 stars, is that is dragged out way too much. Even the action scenes seemed to go by very slowly, and slower romance scenes took forever. And it wasn't just me saying this either. The 2 people that I went to see the movie with both agreed with me that this was a problem in the movie. Now after I buy the movie's great soundtrack I think I'm going to think some happy thoughts and fly to the second star to the right, and end up in Neverland.
