Rating: Summary: I aginative, very good premise, and visual effects are great Review: David Freeman is a typical 12 year old boy in 1978. He lives with his parents and his annoying little brother in Florida. David also dreams of entering his pet dog in frisbee tournaments and getting the nerve to ask the girl next door out. However, on the 4th of July in 1978, something unexpected occurs, and David finds that almost 8 years have passed! His parents have aged, and so has his brother (who strangely does not use this oppurtunity to exact vengeance on his now "younger brother"). Even stranger, NASA has secretly uncovered a flying saucer, and when they find that some strange brain patterns from David resemble the form of the spacecraft, they use the theory of why David hasn't aged in 8 years, and put him on NASA's base. There, they find countless star charts logged into David's brain, and decide to keep DAvid on an extended stay. ONe night, David hears a strange noise, and sneaks into a hanger, where he encounters the flying saucer. He gains entry and is interfaced with the computer's intelligence: a strangerobotic eye that can talk and more. Soon, the two are off, with an agreement for David to give the lifeform (the ship, nicknamed MAX by David) his star charts if he'll help David get home. A rather long summary, but a very good film. One of the first major scores for Alan Silvestri after composing Back to the Future, "Flight of the Navigator" is filled with synthesized music and very eerie futuristic tones. Also, given it's a Disney feature, it gets corny at times, notably when the ship has collected other life forms (though how he got them onto the ship is a mystery), mostly all puppets or wire-frame puppets. The visual animation to make the ship works well, considering the years before digital technology and the establishment of major FX houses. The story is one that is made in the vein of simplicity, yet has some elements that would be welcome in most films today. Also, being a sci-fi film of the 80's, this one wouldn't be complete without some mention to the film E.T.
Rating: Summary: Flight of the Navigator Review: Is a very good movie to watch with the whole family, you will be laughing and maybe a little crying. My 9 year old loves to watch the movie over and over again and again. We have been searching for the soundtrack, he would like to listen to it in his bedroom. Over all the movie is excellent.
Rating: Summary: This Flight's the best! Review: I thought this movie was very good. I thought it was great that the boy could take control of the ship all by himself. I think every kid would love this movie and their parents would love it too. I want to buy this movie. I don't know how, but once it is rereleased I will. You're crazy if you don't see this.
Rating: Summary: laughter's the best medicine Review: Excellent movie. My husband, myself and our teen daughter loved this movie. Luckily I was fortunate enough to purchase it here on VHS when it was still available. I would like to see it on DVD also. Like the previous reviewers, I found myself wanting "The Dark Crystal". A while back, it too was not available. I wrote an email to Jim Henson studios asking if they planned to release it. I was told "NO", but lo and behold, a few months later I bought it here and on DVD at that. Send e-mails to Disney asking if they plan to re-release it. It can't hurt.
Rating: Summary: Flight of the Navigator Review: this video is very interesting and it is a history real,I would like that it left in dvd to be able to comprarla, only I see it in television
Rating: Summary: This should be re-released Review: I love The Flight of the Navigator. i always have but when it was out on video my Mom didn't have enough money to buy it. We were to busy trying to keep things together in our house hold. We saw The Flight Of The Navigator on t.v and i knew that once we had enough money we would be able to buy it. Well the years passed and we are out of our depression period with enough money. But one problem.. It's not in stores!! We despretly need to have this great movie re-released so the memory is not forgotten. And i think others agree!
Rating: Summary: Part of the Movie Legacy of my Generation Review: This is a fantastic movie. Brilliantly imaginative, well-written, performed, directed. "Flight of the Navigator" is one of those movies that represents my generation's childhood (with the likes of E.T.), and the fantasy, imagination, and wonder that was so prevalent in the 1980's and seems somehow lost today. This movie is a teasure from a recent but gone era. It's a kid's movie, and an adult's movie. It's a movie for everyone - now and forever. And the soundtrack is stunning as well. This movie needs to be released again on VHS and DVD. Perhaps someone will read our reviews who can help.
Rating: Summary: Flight of the Navigator - An A+ movie Review: Flight of the Navigator is a movie like no other. For a movie of its time, the special effects are amazing. It is for any age viewer, and its replay value is endless! When I was younger I watched Flight of the Navigator all the time. I hope it will be released again, especially for DVD. It is worth every effort!
