Summary: SCANDALOUS !!!!!
Review: This release is neither widescreen nor anamorphic. It does have DTS & DD audio. Therefore I rate this DVD only one star although the movie itself is great. Universal studios:"shame on you!".

Summary: Classic in American animation
Review: This is it, folks. The original. It has love, suffering, death, and different characters to match different personalities, and no songs breaking out every five minutes. It also sports good animation for the time and some neat dinosaur character designs, especially for Sharptooth (who indeed was quite scary when I saw this as a young'n).

Of course, I think the moment every one remembers is the beginning when Little Foot loses his mother. Its a painful scene that still brings tears to my eyes, and the scene later where Little Foot thinks his big shadow against a rock is his mother is a sad addition, especially when he licks it and realizes what it is. Few other animated features have touched me so deeply for a character like that: even as a dinosaur they characterize love, depression, and hope into each of the characters, especially Little Foot. He essentially has to mature after the loss of his mother and lead his new friends, who haven't gone through such trauma, to the Great Valley with mean ol' Sharptooth at his heels. Sharptooth is kind of like the tank in "The Beast" in the sense that he's an enemy with one option but to kill, with no personality or voice actor to clue him in. He's just a killing machine - and that's probably what makes him so frightening.

I must also add there is some wonderful music in this picture, and fits in well with each of the individual scenes. Overall, I think this was a wonderful animated film and proved animation, even with child-like appeal, could discuss serious topics such as death and destruction. Overall, its really a milestone for American animation.

Summary: Widescreen Anamorphic?
Review: One more day 'til it hits the street... God I hope it's in anamorphic widescreen!

~~~~~~~~~~~
Edited: It is NOT widescreen anamorphic!!! What a truck load waste of time and energy I spent stretching my neck waiting for this one! Shows very little care went into this DVD release by the studio. Evidently all they did was reprinting the material they already had from the VHS days and made DVDs out of it. Guess it wouldn't be as profitable to actually do some work and restore the original film for theatrical release before selling the DVDs for money. I'd give ZERO star if I could.
Summary: One of the best movies!
Review: What can I say about this movie? It's a beautiful and still remains a movie I can get my entire family to watch. It has the perfect mixture of action, sadness, occasional humor, and BEAUTIFUL music. Listen to the credits, if only to hear "If We Hold On Together." It also teaches an excellent lesson without preaching it at you. And a single quote from this movie will forever stand out in my mind:
"Let your heart guide you...it whispers so listen closely"
Summary: The Only Good One
Review: Sorry If I sound like a killjoy or anything. But, what the [heck] is with the songs in the sequels of this movie? They put in songs in Sercet of NIMH 2 and that made it awful. They put songs in Land Before Time II and that made it awful too. If the oringal movie hasn't got a song, it's for a good reason. The only song in the first movie is the end credits.
Land Before Time follows the adventures of Littlefoot and his dinosaur pals in search of the Great Valley to find enough food to eat. A good moive and the only Land Before Time movie.
Summary: the first and the best
Review: its a shame that the rest of the land before time movies never lived up to the standard of the original. i loved this movie as a child - it was sad and scary enough that it felt like a "big kids" movie, as in one with real emotions in it. i liked how cera had some serious attitude, and spike was like this huge hulking dumb teenager (or something...). the animation is quite pretty and, unlike recent disney movies, looks like someone actually drew the cells. the songs are great (especially the title, which is absolutely gorgeous) and, for those of you who have kids and are concerned that they are inoculated with the "right" sort of values (and, let me tell you, its a matter of chance - kids are incorrigible and i should know), LBT hits right home with the message of friendship and cooperation and all those fuzzy things.
the only downsides to the movie are the HORRID sequels (which are about 1000 times brighter and generally stupid, as well as more obviously geared towards the "message and morals" shtick) and the fact that for years my sister (three years younger) thought that names like "long neck" and "spike tail" were the offical scientific names. i was old and smart and found that annoying. but its still a great old throwback, and hasnt aged much at all.
Summary: Still Touching.
Review: I just recently pulled this video out to watch with my three year old daughter and a flood of emotions surged through my veins. What a masterpiece this truly is! Dinosaurs are a species of animals that have always had a dramatic allure and fascination in regard to younger individuals, and what better way to instruct children in the many aspects of life via a movie of this description? Although some scenes are a bit heavy (i.e. the extremely tragic death of Littlefoot's mother-- a scene that still brings tears to my eyes) there are many others that completely compensate. This movie is heart-warming. Children will definitely become attached to the five main characters in this story and identify with them-- the courageous leader Littlefoot, the tempestuous and firey Cera, the innocent and meek Ducky, the comedic and playful Petrie, and the silent and cute Spike. Complete with a gorgeous soundtrack, primarily the beautiful ballad performed by Diana Ross, this is a definitive film pertaining to all aspects of life, one to be enjoyed for eons.
Summary: No Widescreen
Review: This is a great family movie. The original and by far best of the series. I would probably give it 4 stars if a widescreen option was include. It is ashame that this classic had to be cut up like this. It is ashame that so many people think that widescreen is to good for kids. When an anamorphic widescreen version is released I will buy it and give it a better review. Also some supplements of some kind should be included also.
Summary: Enjoy those sweet belly laughs!
Review: We just rented this movie from the library and my 3 year old son loved it so much that I purchased it for him immediately! He finds Petrie very amusing and laughs(those really nice belly laughs) during each of Petrie's antics. Recently we were driving around and he started laughing out loud all of a sudden. When I asked what he was laughing about he said "Petrie was whistling. It was funny!" It's a great story about friendship and perseverance. This is one story I don't mind letting him watch again and again!
