Summary: Everyone should see this movie
Review: OK it's very obviously 80s at some points, but you have to ignore that. I've loved this movie since I was young, and I was quite surprised to find the DVD with extras (which isn't listed on Amazon for some reason). OK, they're not terrific extras - you get for your money, a trailer for Starman (hardly a trailer, there are NO clips of the actual movie - explain that one!), a trailer for Close Encounters Of The Third Kind, Making Of "Starman" featurette, the feature length commentary, and the terrific "All I Have To Do Is Dream" music video, sung by Karen Allen & Jeff Bridges. I loved this video, and as I originally loved the song, even though I'm not old enough to actually remember when it was out, I thought it was well sung, by both. Jeff has a really distinctive voice when it sings - and there's also a rather tender kiss towards the end! (No tongues)

It's your typical storyline really, nothing new - girl meets boy, girl hates boy, girl falls in love. How often has that been done? (I've even done it myself!)

The chemistry between Jeff & Karen is terrific, and both act the part well - especially Jeff, an alien who doesn't really understand English, and is hilarious in the process - watch out for the scene where he follows Karen into the ladies!

It's quite sad at points, as they gradually get to know each other, in the short space of time, or the fact that Jeff feels what the body feels. The ending is nearly one for the tissues.

The themes used during the film are fantastic - the tune will be going round and round in your head for ages, so much so that it will drive you crazy when you're trying to sleep.

This is a terrific film, definitely worth a special edition in a few years.

Summary: Impossible not to like--a love story with a twist.
Review: This film is simply impossible not to like. Jeff Bridges is unforgettable as an alien from an incomparably advanced race who is stranded on Earth (after taking human form) and seeking to return to his own civilization, and his excellent performance as such earned him an Oscar nomination. He really gets into the role, and plays it to perfection. His gestures and mannerisms as the alien trying to understand human beings are uncannily plausible. Karen Allen is also superb in her role as an ordinary human being caught up in the struggle between Bridges, seeking to escape the Earth, and those darned nasty Big Government agents who fear the alien and seek to capture and destroy him. Darned gummint, isn't that just like them?

There are few special effects in the movie, and none are needed--this is a movie that gets through by sheer excellent storytelling and wonderful acting by Bridges and Allen. It manages to be touching without being sappy, and although our human government is viewed as being narrow-minded and overly paranoid, the alien in the end forms a high and joyous opinion of mankind, which I found uplifting and optimistic.

Well worth watching and owning.

Summary: Sci Fi Love Story
Review: "Starman" has long been one of my favorite films, I fell in love with it when I saw the orginal theatrical release, still loved it years later when it made the rounds on "Movie of the Week", and now after all these years I still love it on DVD. You can find tons of films about love and about life from the stars but it's rare indeed to find both in the same film. I can only add my praise to that of the other fans of this beautiful film; great performances, great story, great soundtrack. I only wish there could've been more "extras" for the DVD release, otherwise "Starman" is the type of film that made Hollywood the "dream" capital of the world.

Summary: JOHN CARPENTER and JEFF BRIDGES ...for recount...
Review: For recount a strange story whitch appear simple but only in appearance because the evoked subject of E-T anf U.F.O. is vast and also inclined to polemic with the reserrch scientists who are for or against the thesis witch speak freely of the possibility or not that the life exist somewhere else in this immensity in this infinite universe within or thorough and also in expansion ! NOBODY know where are they if they are ! Only those who have seen them ! THIS MOVIE is a fashion to bring up this very difficult vast theory so, a very GOOD MOVIE with very goods actor as Jeff BRIDGES and the other actress who play the wife of the clone of his husband GOOD DVD MOVIE

Summary: Should be a classic
Review: Whats to like: Crisp, believable characters and I don't mean just the leads, even the extras seem to have depth. The special effects seem tame by today's standards but they don't overwhelm the underlying love story and keep the viewer in that all important state of "suspension of disbelief". Good direction and editing keep the storyline moving along at the right pace. This is a "chase" video after all! Both main characters are appealing and remain brilliantly within their characters. The score is really impressive. I still find myself loading up the video just to listen to the end credits now and again!
What's not to like: zip. Buy this one for your collection.

Summary: Universal Love
Review: A UFO is located and shot down. Little did we know that the occupant was invited. Realizing his predicament the being finds a lock of hair from an expired Jeff Bridges and morphs into his naked bod. Naturally he is spotted by the widow (Karen Allen) and forces her to take him to a pickup point. Meanwhile back at the ranch the agency in charge of picking up stray aliens is in hot pursuit. They get a hot clue "He burnt a lug wrench and said 'greetings'?"
Will he make it? Will they catch him and do unspeakable things? Or will love bloom creating a sequel? If you are in love with love you will love this movie.

Summary: It shouldn't be good, but it is
Review: Jeff Bridges plays an alien who crash-lands on Earth, takes the form of the recently deceased husband of the first human he encounters (Karen Allen), and must get across the U.S. to rendezvous with another spaceship, while being chased by government agents who see him as a threat.

This movie could have been corny, but it isn't. This movie could have been boring, but it isn't. This movie could have been totally unoriginal, but it isn't. John Carpenter borrowed bits and pieces of other movies and stories, added totally believable and likable performances from Bridges and Allen, and spun it into a quirky, memorable, warm movie. It just comes together right. Enjoy!

Summary: I said WE CUT OFF YOUR JOHNSON!
Review: I last saw Starman when I was about 10, and I haven't forgotten it since - it's a great film that never fails to awaken 80's nostalgia.
Nowadays this fact doesn't surprise me all that much, as almost all of Carpenter's films are great and nostalgia-inspiring. I guess what I'm trying to say is, Carpenter's films are the best, and having Jeff Le... Bridges is just the icing on the cake.

Summary: Your species is best when things are at their worst
Review:

Awesome, tight romantic sci-fi drama that is one of the best romance movies of the last century. This flick has great acting, good dialogue, a few splashes of humor, and provides subtle observations of our species. The Nitzche score is very moving. The FX are lacking, but the story doesn't require incredible FX scenes, just a few to prod the movie along. Overall, an outstanding flick.
