Rating: Summary: An absoulte classic, no doubt about it! Murray is great! Review: Although it took me a couple viewings to realize this, it is defintly on my list of classic movies. It mixes a wonderful amount of comedy, romance, and a moral lesson(if you follow it right). Bill Murray in one of his best performances plays the egotistical weatherman Phil Connors. Every Groundhog Day he travels out to Punxtawney, Pa. to cover a groundhog festival. But with the intent on leaving the small town the next day he wakes up to find its Feb 2 again! And he keeps reliving the same day over and over until he gets it right. Its great to see Phil change from an egotistical selfish man to a kind hearted person. Along with him are Rita, a producer(Andie MacDowell) and Larry the cameraman(Chris Elliot). A great light feal good comedy that can be watched many times to enjoyment. All ages will love it. I highly reccomend that you see this. No dobut about it, a classic!
Rating: Summary: I KNOW THE FEELING!! Review: Have you ever had one of the days that you wished break the pattern? What if you had to relive it over and over without worrying about tomorrow. This film, GROUNDHOG DAY stepped out as an original masterpiece. Every now and again, I see some tv series (Xena's episode was great) immitating this film's genre. Bill Murray plays Phil Connors, an annoying arrogant reporter who doesn't want to be the WeatherMan onsite at a Groundhog Day Festival. Andie MacDowell (Rita) and Chris Elliott ( Larry the cameraman) do the shoot and look to leave. Only Murray never leaves. He awakes the next day in the same day, being the only one who knows that time is repeating and repeating. Wonderful film!
Rating: Summary: A wonderful teacher of a movie Review: Bill Murray made one of what I could call my Guru movies with this one: movies that do more than make me feel good by being well written, acted and directed, but also teach me something important I need to know about life (regardless of what I think I know), bettering me as a person. Spike Lee's MO' BETTER BLUES and Bridges and Williams in THE FISHER KING- and of course, IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE- are three others. But Murray performs his way through a magnificent modern day metaphor of Purgatory so incredibly, attempting to rescue his soul from the restraints of his ego and experience true love, that it may for a while surpass your other favorites- even classics, if you are anything like me. Anyone will enjoy this movie for all the obvious reasons- Murray is about as artistically sarcastic and hilarious as I have ever seen him, Andie McDowell plays the perfect straightwoman and his down to earth love interest simultaneously. Guys with an insatiable competitive streak and profound sense of ambition who think happiness will come in getting more of the same of what they already have, however, will absolutely love it. Bill shows us how neurotic we all are and can become, and, if given the chance, would secretly welcome a Groundhog Day of our own: a moment in time in a trivialized place we are trapped in, until we find the true beauty in all things and in ourselves, through mastering humility and real courageous love. In fact, he kinda shows us that we're already in one, if we're wise enough to see it! All this therapy in two hours or less for HOW much money? And you still get entertained too? I reccommend this one very highly.
Rating: Summary: Come on woodchuck chuckers! Review: This is my favorite movie. Buy it. Too bad the DVD doesn't have any special features. It should be part of the Criterion collection. Ned (Needle Nose Ned, Ned the head) is the funniest nerd in film histoty. It just doesn't get any better,
Rating: Summary: It's Groundhog Day! Review: This is one the funniest movies that I have ever seen. Without giving away too much of the plot, I will tell you why. Pessimistic Phil Connors, weatherman on Channel 9 Pittsburgh finds himself once again in the tiny town of Punxsatawney, PA for-what else- Groundhog Day. On Groundhog Day, an unpredicted blizzard keeps Phil (like the groundhog), the funny cameraman Larry, and the new producer, Rita, in Punxsatawney. The next day he wakes up in his hotel room and finds out that it's GROUNDHOG DAY! It is amazingly funny to see Phil reapeat Groundhog Day over and over and over again, and for him there seems to be no way out of it, whether he tries to save an old man's life, drives off of a cliff, or tries-unsuccesfully, I might add- to make Rita love him. GET THE MOVIE, NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Rating: Summary: Everything I know in life, I learned from Groundhog Day Review: I find this film to be one of the most inspirational movies that I have ever seen. It gives me hope in human nature and the future of our society. If Bill Murray's character is a mirror of humanity, then our current social climate isn't so terrible; it's just a phase that we are going through. As bad as things may get, the path to a more mature state of mind is inevitable -- given enough time. It shows that the rewards gained from insincere and immoral behavior pale next to those returned from sincerity and kindness. It also points out that we have opportunities every day to have a positive impact on those around us as well as ourselves. These messages shine through clearly to me every time I see this movie. Aside from the philosophical mumbo-jumbo, I thought this was a very entertaining movie. Bill Murray and Andie MacDowell really brought their characters and the plot to life. It has the right mixture of an interesting plot, humor, and romance to appeal to a wide variety of audiences. If you haven't already, do yourself a favor and watch this movie. Does anyone else wonder how many times Phil Conners relived Groundhog Day in this movie? I'm sure it has to be measured in years if not decades. After all, he knows every one in the town, he learned how to ice-sculpt and play the piano, he apparently spent six months practicing throwing cards into a hat, and he went from being an arrogant, cynical jerk to a caring, sincere, and humble person. That must have taken some serious time.
Rating: Summary: One of my favorite comedies! Review: I thought Bill Murray was the perfect person to play this role, and I think its one of the funniest movies I have seen. The idea of having to live the same day over and over again is a great setting for Bill Murray's talents to shine. I love all the situations he puts himself into, for example the numerous suicide attempts and how he eventually learns anything and everything about everyone in the entire town. If you haven't seen this movie yet, definetly go check it out.
Rating: Summary: "I'm not THE God. I'm A god." Review: This was the statement declared by Phil (Bill Murray) when he finds himself living the same day, the Groundhog Day, over and over again and becomes seemingly immortal. Phil starts off as an obnoxious and self-centred man who, during his course of repeating the same day of his life, undergoes changes which he has never expected. It is interesting to see how Phil's view towards such an experience changes gradually as he becomes more accustomed to the whole thing: first he is in real panic, then he starts to take advantage of the situation, then he gets bored... probably the same would be true for all of us if we go through the same experience. At the same time his personality is also changing. He starts to "grow up" and realises his mistakes. All these minute changes from one day to another (actually the same day) are not an easy job for any actors or actresses, but has been performed superbly by Bill Murray. Not to mention all the laughs he managed to throw in as well. Original story, excellent performance. I would recommend this romantic comedy to anyone.
Rating: Summary: Bill Murry at his best Review: Phil Connors (played by Bill Murry) is an egotistical weather man from Pittsburgh PA, covering the Groundhog Day festivities in Punxsutawney. Phil becomes stuck in the same day, Groundhog Day, reliving it over and over again. This incredibly humorous story is also touching and full of moral values, as well as one of the best movies for character development to date. The main reason Phil begins his inner spring cleaning is because of Rita (played by Andie McDowell), Phil's beautiful, down to earth producer. Of coarse, by reliving the same day, Phil figures out the qualities of Rita's ideal man, and through trial and error tries to manipulate her into believing that Phil is him. However, Rita sees through this shallow trick, even with Phil's best performance. After going through many different fazes, like how many ways he can kill himself, Phil realizes that his ticket to personal and romantic success is to make the best of this very unique opportunity and fix his faults. This chain of events leads to a very humorous and romantic ending. The path Phil takes toward character development will make you laugh more than any other Bill Murry film. If you love Bill Murry this movie is a sure thing, and a great film to watch as a family as well. Overall, this is a wonderful film definitely worthy of five stars.
Rating: Summary: What goes around comes around Review: I have to say, I did not particularly like this film on first viewing. However, watching it a couple more times, it has really grown on me. You pick up more each time you see it, and you also appreciate Bill Murray's excellent performance much more. Another hit from the much under-rated Harold Ramis!
