Summary: One Film You'll Want to Watch Again & Again!
Review: Have you ever had one of those days, where you wake up and you have a strong sense of deja vu -- as if you've lived through this moment before? Overbearing TV weatherman Phil Connors (played Bill Murray) gets a whole series of such days, in which he literally re-lives the same day (Groundhog Day) again and again. This comedy blossoms under Murray's radiant comic genius, as we are gifted with a whole series of his outrageous attempts to get through the day as fast as possible, as selfishly as possible, or with as much self-importance as possible. Eventually, Connors comes to discover that the most joy comes from helping others, as he finds himself falling head-over-heels in love with his lovely (and not easily impressed) TV producer, played by Andie MacDowell. Supporting actor Chris Elliott is extremely funny, and this film is so good that you'll find yourself wanting to watch it again... and again... and again!

Summary: A Wonderful Film
Review: This movie can be watched over again without getting bored and often with finding a little bit that missed detection the last time. It is extremely clever and one of Murrays' best films, perhaps second only to "What about Bob?". Murray finds himself caught in an endless loop, waking up to the same day over and over. Finding out that he can spend endless time practicing the piano, trying to get MacDowell to fall for him or just learning personal bits of information about the townspeople. The results are very funny and while we never quite learn how long actually passes during the film, i.e. How many days does he live in this loop?, we never quit rooting for Murray to figure it all out and get the girl. The film editing in this movie is excellent, we watch as Murray gets slapped, slapped again, slapped over and over till finally he starts to learn a little bit about treating others and avoids the slap, only to make another gross mistake and have to learn the next lesson. Never slow, this romantic comedy (with a little bit about life in general thrown in) is a very strong recommendation.

Summary: Murray and Ramis at their best
Review: This ofter overlooked comedy is a true masterwork of director Harold Ramis. Operating from a simple premis, we get a story that is not at all predictable, despite poor Bill Murray repeating his day endlessly. Sparking facinating discussions about what anyone would do with eternity is just one joy of this film. A special shout out to Chris Elliot, who plays the cameraman, and Murray's biggest critic. Movies like this would fail without exceptional bit part actors, such as Chris Elliot. The comic genius of Groundhog Day can really be best summed up by Phil Conners who, when trying to place a phone call and is told to try again tomorrow responded: "What if there is no tomorrow...there wasn't one today!"

Summary: Genre: inspiration
Review: This film compares in several ways with "Chocolat." Both films are rated five stars not because they are big budget or because they are magnificent to look at or because of the soundtrack or because they represent the unfolding of an epic. They are great because they are eminently successful in the most important area: MAGIC! "Groundhog Day" starts off looking very much like it might be at most one of those typical three star comedies -- but it slowly takes off and the acceleration increases throughout the film. At its conclusion I was about two feet off the ground. The story could have gone off in any number of directions but Ramis has taken it in the BEST direction: hope, fulfillment, inspiration. In a quite subtle way the film elaborates metaphorically on a Zen theme of "the eternal present." High philosophy indicates that our lives are actually structured in a way that is remarkably similar to the Murray character's experience: we cycle and re-cycle through the days of our lives (and probably life-times), having multiple opportunities to "get it right." As Murray finally notices, the mundane surface of our existence is actually replete with irrepressible and fantastic possibilities. People will be watching this film in large numbers for decades to come. And Murray and McDowell are simply wonderful.

Summary: Good comedy gets old toward the end
Review: The repeating time loop, in which one experiences the same period of time indefinitely, is a familiar concept to science-fiction fans. It provides fertile ground for a romantic comedy as well. Bill Murray is a self-important weatherman who finds himself reliving Groundhog Day. He goes through a number of stages, from disbelief through near-insanity to a calm acceptance, growing as a person along the way. As much as I liked the concept and Bill Murray's performance, I found myself growing bored toward the end of the film. Of course, repetition is unavoidable in a film of this type. Indeed, it is the whole point of the movie. Nevertheless, the filmmakers needed to make the repetition seem a little less...well, repetitious. I still give it three stars, but screenwriter Danny Rubin and director Harold Ramis needed to find more for the actors to do.

Summary: Bill Murray's Finest!
Review: This is a great movie. Definately Bill Murray's best yet. This is a story about a selfish, ..., weatherman who goes to Punxatauney, PA to do a report on Groundhog Day. He wakes up the next day only to find it Groundhog Day again, and again, and again, and again! This is hilarious and really touches your heart. Great acting. Do yourself the favor of renting this movie.

Review: Great family movie. We watched it again last night with our 9 year old. Everybody enjoyed it. It is funny and sweet. Classic Bill Murray. Andie MacDowell is lovely.

Summary: over and over,better and better
Review: This is a really good film,for two reasons.
one - its not the norm,its nice to have a little change when watching a lot of films and this is certainly different.
two - bill murray,sometimes i think i dont like him,but when i watch him ,i realise that he is great at the parts he plays.
A film about a insensitive,mean man,who has a bad day(inflicted by himself),and has to relive it until he gets it right.it takes a long time.Watch bill learn to play the piano,jump off buildings,make friends,and find love.
Definately see it.

Summary: A cute, corny story worth watching
Review: This is a surprisingly good movie. What could have been an over the top goof movie (which Bill Murray has made a living on)turns out to be a great story with tons of entertainment and an ole fashioned moral to the story. The DVD was pretty good in terms of sound and multiple video formats (Widescreen and Standard), though I was bummed there were no extra features, like outtakes, deleted scenes etc. Still a good story and well worth the $10-12 price tag.
