Rating: Summary: Not to be missed Review: I saw the movie in the theater when it first came out many years ago and loved it. When I saw the DVD in the store a few months ago I thought my then 2 1/2 year old daughter would enjoy it. Well, she didn't enjoy it--she became obsessed with it! The characters are adorable especially Little Foot and Duckie. The entire concept of the movie is easily appreciated by young children and adults: young dinosaurs separated from their parents during the great "earth shake" that split the land millions of years ago. When Little Foot's mother is injured and dies, I thought it would distress my daughter and it did a little. But, she made up her own explanation she thinks his mother was hurt and that she would come back later and I reassured her that was the case (necessary small white lie). The story takes these young dinos through many adventures as they search for the Great Valley where they're certain their families are waiting for them. Along the way, they must overcome obstacles such as "Sharp Tooth" the big T-Rex, and such other perils. I won't get into the gentle lessons learned as the come to understand the importance of friendship etc. The story is entertaining the score beautiful and the animation absolutely wonderful. Now my daughter cannot get enough of dinosaurs and this is months after having first seen this movie. I rented the sequels because I knew they didn't have the specialness to them like this original and boy, was I glad I didn't spend my money on any of them. I rerent them on occasion so my daughter gets to see the characters she loves so much in a different way. As to the original Land Before Time--she can't get enough of it and that's fine with me.This is a must if you have children and even if you don't, it's a nice addition to your collection of animated films.
Rating: Summary: land before time Review: This is the first video that I have watched that I was absolutely appauled by its content, especially for 5 year olds and under. We began the first 3 years of our childs life with storybooks. Now we have begun viewing some of the videos from the books we have read. The Disney movies stay pretty true to the text in the books. I was amazed at how different The Land Before Time video was from the book. The video contained a lot of prejudice, sarcastic remarks from the adult dinosaurs and the young dinosaurs, in which young children viewing this video should not be hearing (they mimic what they hear, proven fact) Even as I sat and watched the video (which I always do, to explain the conflicts) it was hard keeping up with all the negative, violent scenes. People wonder why children talk and act the way they do.....This video is a prime example. I will be the first to champion that it is parents responsibility to teach their kids right from wrong, empathy, respect, and kindness. But videos like this one (which I am sure, some parents think can run unsupervised), is a big mistake. I will not recommend any of these videos to any of my friends. Very disappointed...I only give it 1 star, because the only redeeming character is Duckie.
Rating: Summary: Very wonderful Review: I found this Movie very wonderful. Although i am 13 years old i still love this movie. it teaches younger kids the meaning of freindship and love. At my stepmothers and fathers wedding i sang the main song (if we hold on together) for everyone. They were all like "were is that song" and i could say, very proudly, the land before time.
Rating: Summary: Long before the time of many sequels and Jurassic Park Review: 'The Land Before Time' craze started with this unforgettable animated movie from the 'Sorcerer' Don Bluth, that created this outstanding masterpiece, with outstanding music and unforgettable characters, but the only backdraw is the colouring, that could be much better. Littlefoot, who looses his parents, and his pals is going out on a dramatic journey to The Great Valley, where Littlefoot must be reunited with his grandparents, while the others must be reunited with their own parents. Dino lovers of all ages will love this animated movie!
Rating: Summary: Best cartoon ever Review: Man , I never rate cartoon movies but I would have to say this movie is the greatest. Like others have said, I at the age of 23 still can;t fail to drop a tear thur parts of the movie. Duckey is the greatest in this movie. And Spike doesnt have to rush for anyone. Sarah is cold hearted but shows her inner side as we all will at some point in our life. This is a good motivational tool for kids to grown-up. I recommend it for everyone to see. Dont miss out. Its like Scarface," a classic"
Rating: Summary: THE FIRST WILL ALWAYS BE THE BEST!! Review: The first Land Before Time will always be the best. To me, Part 4 was the best sequel.(I only saw Parts 1-5). This movie descends from being a "family dinosaur" movie. First of all, it tells the simple story of a baby dinosaur being left alone in a touching and vulnerable way. The hatching scene is still memorable. Then, it transits into a whole different thing. Different dinosaurs of different species come together to make the track to the Great Valley. They all had different personalites: a likable pterdactyl trying to learn to fly, a happy-go-lucky water dinosaur, a dominating triceratops, a simple spiked dinosaur, and a brontasaurus who brought out the best in everyone. Also, it seemed to be interesting of how they would trap Sharp-Tooth, and how they had names for all the dinosaurs like"long neck". It's so, how do I say, cute? They have all different kinds of adventures, and a great lesson in friendship. I still can't understand how so many sequels were made. What's so different about them? Sequels 2-4 were good, but after that the plots were all just deja vu. It's always about dinosaurs, or change, or metoers, or whatever. It sounds like they just teach the same lessons over and over: the benefits of friendship. If you liked this movie, you might want to see Parts 2,3,and 4. See, the sequels just ignore the plots of the last, and start a big cliche all over agian. I hear they'll be a part 8. It should be called The Land Before Time: Enough Already! So, please see the land before time, one of the most decent animated films I've ever seen. It'll be worthwhile. I guarentee.
Rating: Summary: A wonderful film for toddlers Review: Our 3 year old first became interested in the Land Before Time series when she saw one of them on a cable channel. Luckily we had recorded it on our TIVO unit because she watches it a least a few times each week. We recently bought this DVD of the first movie in this series. She loves it! The animation and soundtrack are very good. Although there are some scenes where a T-Rex attacks, it is not too violent or scary, even for young toddlers. The story itself has a positive message and the characters are very appealing to youngsters (and adults). I only have two complaints about this movie. First, this is the first DVD I've seen that did not come in a widescreen verson. The picture is cropped to fit a standard TV. Had I known that, I probably would have bought the VHS edition, which is cheaper. Secondly, some of the later movies in the series have musical scenes where the dinosaurs sing songs. Most of these songs are actually quite catchy. Our daughter likes these parts. This episode does not have any songs other than the instrumental soundtrack If you have children that like feature length cartoons, I think that they will enjoy this movie and the others in the series.
Rating: Summary: A Fairytale Memory Review: I first saw this movie about 1 year after it came out, i was three. Until I was 10 I watched this movie at my grannys house which was in the country side. Living in London in the city i would look forward to Grannys house and Little Foot. I loved Little foot and thought Petrie was the cutest. Now I am 15 and both Little Foot and my Grandparents have moved on i will never forget the smile that i had when I watched the movie time and time again. Any one who wants a movie to last a long time in both your mind and your childrens hearts then this is the one.
Rating: Summary: wonderful Review: I have seen this movie many many times now, and it remains among my most favorite movies ever. I even quote it in my everyday conversations!
Rating: Summary: artwork Review: The striking thing about this animated picture is the paint work. Every detail of this movie is an art itself. I also read a review in which was mentioned that Don Bluth could not match Disney. I just think that the Don Bluth's style is somewhat different then Disney's. In spite of the splendid qualities of the disney movies I prefer to watch Don Bluth's animated movies because they are truely artistic. The colours and warmth are much more intense and the scores are better too. I do not have scores of disney movies but I do have scores of Don Bluth's movies. The 'Secret of Nimh' and 'the Land before time' are unbeatenable. Both the movies and the movie scores are 'must to have'. (By the way, the European version of Secret of Nimh is widescreen) Greetings from the Netherlands
