Summary: Darkman rocks
Review: I love this movie. It's about a man's descent into madness. He starts out as a brilliant scientist and all-around goodguy, Peyton Westlake. By the end of the movie, he is a viscious, vengeance-driven maniac. He even admits to being "a monster". The movie is very realistic about the consequences of seeking revenge. Darkman gets his revenge against those who wrecked his life, but ends up sacrificing a great deal of his humanity in the process.

Lots of action in this one. Darkman knows how to mop up the floor with thugs. And watch out for that heliocopter ride toward the end!

Summary: Unbelieveable, even for comic book fantasy
Review: When I saw this movie in the theater, I thought it was perhaps the most ridiculous waste of film I had ever seen. Now that I've had the chance to review it on video, my opinion hasn't changed that much. Yes, Sam Raimi has an amazing flair with the camera, and there are some entertaining moments in Darkman. However, there is an extrememly high BS factor in this movie which forces the viewer to completely suspend reality in order to enjoy the experience -- and that's even taking into account the fact that this is adapted from a comic book.

When our hero is blasted out of a window with most of his skin seared from his body, he is barely able to move, let alone walk. But within a few minutes on screen, he has ripped through his restraints and is walking the streets in search of lab equipment. In a few more minutes he has entirely rebuilt his lab from items found in trashcans and dumpsters, and he's hard at work on his formula for synthetic skin. Yes, Superman can fly, and Batman has cool toys, but not even Darkman can resurrect a high-tech laboratory from soda cans and banana peels. If you can get past that kind of nonsense, the dialogue and stereotyped characters may do you in later.

There are a lot of good movies for sale at Amazon, and watching any of them would be a better use of 95 minutes than watching Darkman. But if you really have to watch this movie, consider picking it up for a few days from Blockbuster. It'll cost a lot less, and it won't collect as much dust after your first and only viewing.

Summary: 25 Word Or Less Review
Review: The best translation of the bombastic, kinetic appeal of comic books to film. More of a blast than most of Sam Raimi's work. Recommended.

Summary: Overlooked and Underrated Action Flick
Review: This is one of the few action/adventure movies where both the male and female leads were over 30 (which is good). Too bad it was released during the recession of 1990. Its rather weak box office gross led to the other Dark Man movies going straight to video with no theatrical release. Neeson and McDormand have good chemistry together. Interesting enough to watch again every so often, superior to many big-budget action movies that followed it in the 90s. Dark Man 2 was pretty good also.

Summary: Darkman
Review: The original and the best. This one stars Liam Neeson as the tortured scientist. This movie is dark and brooding. However if you like movies about bad guys and avenging angels , you should like this one. Both Darkman 2 and 3 star Arnold Vosloo. If you are a fan you will enjoy them. I rate them a 3.Enjoy Lisa C.

Summary: THE VICTOM WHO BECAME A HERO WHO BECAME DARKMAN
Review: DARKMAN is director Sam Raimi's mainstream film debut. It tells the story of Dr. Peyton Westlake(Liam Neeson)who is working, along with his assistant on creating synthetic human skin. For people who need it. Westlake has a nice life with his girlfreind Julie Hastings (Frances McDormand). Julie is an aturney who has important documants which her crooked boss can't let out and Westlake takes them to work. Julie's crooked boss LOUIS STRACK (Colon Friels) needs Westlake killed because of this. So he sends out his assistant drug lord Robert G. Durrant (Larry Drake) to kill Westlake at work. Durrant brakes into Westlakes lab right after Westlake discovers that his synthetic only works for 99 mns. Durrant kills Westlake's assistant and has his goons beat Westlake to a bloody pulp. So as they leave they turn on gas tanks and a lighter and one of those drinking bird things.( ya, with those cute top hats) The bird bobs up and down any second it will hit the button on the lighter. Westlake crawls over to stop it but he is to late. His lab, his work, and his entire life blown to bits. Westlake escapes from the hospotal and goes to the remains of his lab only to find that he is burnt beyond any recognission. But he starts up his work again . And trys to get his girlfreind with his synthetic skin. by making masks of his former self. Westlake also uses his synthetic skin to make masks of the Gangsters to turn Strack and Durrant's orgisation aginst it self.

This film is dark, disturbing, witty, and Action packed!

Summary: Embarrasing
Review: What I mostly remember about this film, which I saw in the theatre years ago, was mediocre special effects, and that parts of it were so patently silly that the audience laughed about things that were definitely not meant as jokes.

Summary: Bat- er...Darkman.
Review: You could easily tell this film was based on a comic book, because this film had very thin plot line, which only serves to create more action. Liam Neeson was actually decent as Darkman, but the script let him down, and some really bad jokes ruined this film. The only real high point is Larry Drake who plays the evil villian Robert G. Durant.

Summary: Unmissable well-written film by Evil Dead director.
Review: A scientist attacked in his laboratory and left horribly scarred is presumed dead when his lab is destroyed in an explosion. But having been thrown clear of the blast, and having been given treatment at a hospital which has resulted in him having super-human strength, as well as an ability to avoid physical pain, the scientist is forced to live as an outcost, hiding in the ruins of his lab and becoming 'Darkman'. However, after rebuilding equipment which can develop human skin tissue, he begins copying faces in his quest to track down and bring to justice the gangsters who attacked him, as well as the corrupt property tycoon controlling them.

This is a first-rate film, often sadly overlooked. Its blackly comic approach and its wild, surreal images are unique, and the emotional Darkman, despite his horrific appearance, is a sympathetic and likeable hero. The film is filled with gripping drama, action and strong characters. And watch for a cameo from Bruce Campbell (hero of the Evil Dead films, which are also recommended).
