Summary: The Ghostbusters of the 90's
Review: What a great spoof this was, yet it was also serious in some ways. The same was true for Ghostbusters in the 80's. It was nice to see Will Smith parody his role in Independence Day, and it was nice to see Tommy Lee Jones play with all the seriousness we're used to seeing in him. This DVD is not the limited edition, but this one still has a lot of extras. The video and sound are 5 star quality too. If you haven't seen this movie and you enjoyed Ghostbusters, than give this one a try.

Summary: Put on your best "Eggar Suit"
Review: Most comic book films are divided into two distinct parts. The first half of the film is where the origin of the characters is explored and the second half, the characters have to bring down the villain. MEN IN BLACK sticks to that premise. Another thing that occurs in these comic book adaptations is that the origin section is extremely entertaining and watchable while the battle with the villain only feels necessary, but not involving. Again, MEN IN BLACK follows suit. An all black suit with sunglasses.Extraterrestrials have been living amongst us for many years now. Many of them peacefully, but some are a threat to earths existence. That's where a secret branch of the INS comes into play, the MEN IN BLACK. They hunt down and put an end to alien corruption right under our noses, without arousing suspicion. When it's time for Agent K to recruit a new partner, he chooses a loud-mouthed cop with a thrill for the chase. James Edwards trades in his past and name to become Agent J, but he retains a lot of his smart remarks. He'll need them to get along with the many different creatures he'll encounter. And we'll need them to get through the film. Will Smith gives us a nice up-n-coming star quality much like the younger Eddie Murphy. Time will tell whether he can keep that going or if his career will also be in constant flux. But, he is the strength of the film. Men in Black is mildly entertaining on its own, but occasionally loses its footing. Tommy Lee Jones is his mentor but is resorted to a very one-note performance with one notable exception. As the film is winding down, we suddenly see K still has a love he has missed for many years. It is touching but too convenient and derivative. We see a less confident filmmaker in Barry Sonnenfeld then his earlier GET SHORTY or his cinematographic work with the Coen Brothers (RAISING ARIZONA). At this writing there are 3 different DVD versions available of MEN IN BLACK, this review is based on the 2-disc limited edition. It is a loaded disc set with a great audio and widescreen video transfer. (Unreviewed Pan and Scan is also available on the same disc). This was one of the first discs to aggressively try to offer a lot more than the feature and a couple documentaries. It includes onscreen commentary alongside several traditional commentaries. A couple making-of Documentaries, CD-ROM material and even an interactive filmmaking workshop. With MEN IN BLAC 2 now a reality, it's fun to see where this series got its cinematic start.

That mistake that Agent Jay made added 45 minutes to the movie, the movie is only 90 min, so it needed the extra time, I think this is an awesome movie, This is one of those movies where it's either a Good movie, or a Bad movie, I have never heard anyone call this an O.K. movie, It just won't fit in that category, There is one bad thing, I have never seen a movie with more DVD releases ever, This movie has alot of DVD's
The original version with no bonus features,
Collectors series on a Single layer disc with Bonus features,
Limited Edition, on 2 Double layer discs, & loaded with Bonus features,
& now this one, The Deluxe edition, I have not purchased it because I own the Limited Edition, Fortunatly I did not buy any of the previous versions,
I do not know what the difference is between this one & the Limited edition, Only that theres some MIB2 footage, & no Full-screen version,(thankfully) On a previous review by someone else, He said the editing workshop lets you Edit 2 scenes from the movie, But on the Limited edition, you can Edit 3 scenes, Sounds like theres less material in the Deluxe Edition, I certainly hope theres some different Bonus material in this version, cause I'm thinking about purchasing it, & then I'll have 2 Men in Blacks floating around my house,

Summary: A sublime, entertaining movie in a great package.
Review: Men in Black was one of my favourite Hollywood blockbusters of the '90s. One of only a handful successful comic-book translations in history, the film retained the irreverence and zany creativity of the best comics while adding the visual grandeur, attention to detail, and narrative focus of the best features. Rewatching this movie now, it's lost none of its charm. The meticulous Bo Welch production design is superb, director Barry Sonnenfeld's sense of pacing and comic timing impeccable, the Danny Elfman score absolutely perfect for its subject, and the cast is uniformly excellent. Nobody else could have played the role of Agent Jay with such pizazz as Will Smith; Tommy Lee Jones delivers hands-down his best comic performance ever, Linda Fiorentino is delightfully weird as coroner Dr. Laurel Weaver, Rip Torn nearly steals the show as perennially grumpy, inscrutable agency head Zed, and Vincent D'Onofrio is fun to watch as Farmer Edgar/Edgar Bug. The bonus materials are also great. The "editing workshop", which allows you to play with alternate footage and put together a new version of one of two scenes, is my personal favourite (although I actually agree with Sonnenfeld's poker-faced quip that, "[The audience] will find out that everything I did was perfect). "The evolution of MiB" gives a hint of the major changes that happen on (to) a big movie as it's being made, and the MIIB (Men in Black 2) teasers definitely suggest that MIIB is a must-see for summer 2002.

Summary: BETTER THEN AVERAGE
Review: THIS SPOOF OF THE X-FILES HAS A LOT OF HUMOR AND SUSPENCE IN IT. SMITH AND JONES ARE WELL CAST IN THEIR ROLES AS AGENTS WHO KEEP TAPS ON THE ALIENS WHO LIVE ON AND JUST VISIT EARTH. THIS COMIC TO FILM HAS MORE IMAGINATION THEN THE OVER-RATED SUPERMAN AND BATMAN MOVIES FROM WARNER BROTHERS.

Summary: First half far funnier than last half
Review:
The first half of MIB is damn funny. Hyperbole is the key to humor here. How can you not laugh at the possibilities presented by unlimited technology? Will Smith is great as the man just smart enough but irregular enough to work as an MIB. Tommy Lee Jones' panface is perfect for his role.
The second half kind of devolved into regular, familiar action movie formula, and I started to get a little sleepy. But the first 45 minutes to an hour is very, very unique and interesting.
Worth checking out!

Summary: great laugther
Review: in 1997, my fourth of july weekend [stunk]! but there was one highlight--not the fireworks, which are becoming boring to me. the one highlight of that fourth of july weekend was seeing Men In Black. i laughed nearly through the whole film. that is the sign of a great film. and i eagerly wait for MIB2 this summer.

Summary: Lots of laughs!
Review: Before I saw this movie I thought it would have another Independence Day scenario, the aliens are going to take over the world and I assumed the Men In Black had to save us. Not so. The aliens have already taken over the world, and the MIB are just monitoring them and going about their daily business. (I hope I haven't given too much away!) However, much to the dismay of veteran Agent K (Tommy Lee Jones) and new recruit Agent J (WIll Smith) a bug donning a brand new Edgar suit (Vincent D'Onofrio) has just crash landed on Earth, certain to reek havoc. Lets just say this is definitely entertaining!
Tommy Lee Jones is great as the funny yet cool as a cucumber "old guy", while Will Smith has lots of great one liners as the policeman turned MIB agent. At first I though Dr. Laurel Weaver, played by Linda Fiorentino, was an unnecessary character put in there just because she was beautiful and they needed a romance. But the next time I saw it, I thought scenes with her in it were actually pretty comical. As for me, my favorite character was the bug - he didn't fit properly in the skin of a human, acted like such a cretan, but was still sarcastic. He was hilarious! (Vincent D'Onofrio can play anything, I swear.) All in all, hysterical movie (funnywise) that is probably worth seeing, if only for its entertainment value.
