Summary: Surprises gone MIA in MIB II
Review: Mammoth centipedes hide under pavements of NY City; weird fuzzballs hibernate at the Grand Central station locker while Michael Jackson prattles as a humanzoid in a cameo. It's fortunate intergalactic cops Men In Black are back - and particularly the valuable assistance of Agent Kay and Agent Jay (Tommy Lee Jones and Will Smith) to combat a more devious Kylothian monster Serleena disguised as a Victoria Secrets model (Lara Flynn Boyle). First things first though, Agent Kay has to be de-neuralyzed with his memory erased by the flash.Men In Black II is no doubt a bustling hive with the polarized pair in action. Will Smith as the cackling braggadacio clashes with the deadpan jaded Tommy Lee Jones elicit a raucous comic riot. Boyle as the man-eating Serleena adds to the good fun - what along with old-time nostalgics like Jeebs (Tony Shalboub), The worm Guys and Frank The Pug to complement the new interlopers such as the two-headed bozo minion Scrad/Charlie (Johnny Knoxville). That aside, Men In Black II isn't as fresh nor funny as its predecessor in 1997, a spin-off of a Malibu Comics title to emerge surprisingly as a sleeper hit that became a stellar phenomenonal blockbuster chalking up earnings of 587 million dollars. It is a flaky attempt to repeat the same formula with more freakier creaters from make-up maestro Rick Baker and overblown F/X from director Barry Sonnefield. The sequel arrives like a big bang to dazzle but the cool factor and surprises has gone MIA in MIB II.

Summary: Not Much...But Fun
Review: "Men In Black II" hasn't been earning very good reviews from the "professional" critics, and I believe that can be attributed to the fact that they were looking for far too much. Yeah, it's short and simple, but it's an entertaining distraction. It has nifty one-liners, a cool villain (Lara Flynn Boyle), and, best of all, killer special effects. I mean, what more could you want from your summer fluff? You may not remember much of it after it's over, and it doesn't quite compare to the slightly superior 1997 original, but it is worth the [$$$] of escapism (and air conditioning), especially if you have a group of rowdy kids in tow.

Review: Dear deity, this has to be one of THE WORST movies I have ever subjected myself to. Flushing that six dollars down the nearest toilet would have been a much more earnest use for it, and saved me a lot of wasted time. This film has nothing compared to Men in Black II; it's corny, awful, and nothing more than slapstick trash. I watched the original MiB after seeing this, and was amazed by how good MiB was. It was a story with humor elements. MiB 2 is attempted humor with a few story elements tossed in at random. The animated short before it is also enough to make you want to leave before the film even starts, be warned. Smith and Jones return with venerable acting skill as J & K, but with a script that would have been BETTER if it was written by a handicapped 11-year-old with cerebral palsy, they couldn't do much. The plot is anemic, the gags are forced, and 90 minutes of wishing I would spontaneously combust is something I urge you to save yourself. Go watch the original again, and please, pretend the sequel never happened.

Summary: The Men, In Black, Are Back, On Track...
Review: While it is totally indefensible on any artistic, technical, adept, or emotional level, this sequel is often so hilarious and non-stop that you just don't care. Critics should find it so funny that they forget to laugh it off; the amazing thing about MIB is that most people who don't appreciate sci-fi end up enjoying them. That's no mean feat, and Lara Flynn Boyle (as the villanous alien of coarse) in the lingerie ad is a different type of visual feast. Rated PG-13 for some mild language.

Summary: Men In Black II
Review: Men in Black II was a disappointment to me because I was a fan of the first MiB, and this time around it fell short in so many ways. First I think the casting for Lara Flynn Boyle as Serleena was off and mistaken. Sure you may have the look, but she can't act and most of her lines come off as half baked (now there was a funny movie). The other thing is how similar the plot is to the first movie, with the exception of new characters and places. Another let down for me was that Johnny Knoxville got 3 lines overall and I was expecting a lot more from him, and at the end of the movie that just dropped his character all together and you heard nothing more from him. The only other thing I have to complain about is how short this movie is, 82 minutes, I think? Movies are getting shorter these days and that's not a good thing...I need movies like Lord of the Rings, and Gladiator, and Braveheart, good long movies that don't bore you and/or are of a slow pace. This movie has a somewhat slow pace for the first half hour and then once Agent K is introduced the movie picks up, but then oh too soon we find the ending. Overall, this movie could have been better, but it could have been worse, even though the Cons barely outweight the Pros (Pros being the nonstop humor which is the only thing that carries this movie). Better luck next time Will, Tommy, and Barry, maybe Men In Black 3 will make up for this one (and we all know that they'll probably make another one as long as people are willing to pay for it).

Review: After watching (and enjoying) the simple but well-made Man in Black, I was eager to watch its sequel. Unfortunately, I was bitterly disappointed.
This is far away from being a good movie. There simply is no story, just a bunch of embarassing scenes thrown one against the other in a feeble tentative of temporal sequence. Even the visual effects are not that impressive.
The actors also seem not to be having great fun in making the movie. Will Smith is unrecognisable; serious, uncomfortable, just waiting to get his money at the end. I heard Tommy Lee Jones put lots of conditions before signing his contract. Well, if his conditions were about script and executive production, he was very wrong. In MIB II his character, K (these initials are also stupid), is a boring person who spreads his gray-ness all over, reaching even the people standing in the audience. Lara Flynn Boyle is a stunningly beautiful woman, and has an evil-meaning face, but her character also was completely idiotic. She appears on the screen always wearing a black kind of nightgown. I won't comment on other characters and actors, with the exception of the little dog (has the only funny moments of the entire movie) and the pathetic Michael Jackson participation. And I mean PATHETIC. And I can't believe Spieberg was executive producer of this completely forgettable movie. Just to have an idea, I watched it yesterday and already don't remember most of it.
I'd rate it a ZERO if I could.
Don't waste your time and money. It's unbelievable this is the top-seeded movie of the box-office. It's because people still go and watch this kind of productions that the studios keep throwing them at us. We deserve it.

Summary: Take this one back to the drawing board...
Review: I should have known that MIIB would not meet my expectations when the opening credits ran several minutes into the movie--bad sign! While the sequel does have its moments and, of course, dazzling special effects, the overall feel was a bit contrived: Will Smith seemed bored and disappointed to have to re-create his character 'J'; and it seemed everyone tried way too hard to make up for the substandard screenplay. Note to Mr. Sonnenfeld: Please, please, PLEASE find a better screenplay if you decide to do a third installment in the series--lest you kill it altogether!!

Summary: What to expect from a sequal
Review: I know that most sequals really stink. And, compared to other sequals, MIB II is pretty decent. It forces us to remember what exactly we want in a sequal. If we really wanted a fresh formula and a new concept, we'd be in the theater next door watching something else. Instead, we come to see the things we loved in the original. Just watching the interaction between Mr. Smith and Mr. Jones is worth the ticket price. Basically, they took the original screenplay and mixed it up a bit, added some new characters, refurbished some old ones, and *voila*! and new movie! This isn't necessarially a bad thing; we got what we were looking for, just it isn't something new and original. See it if you liked the original, just for the different material of the things you really loved.

Summary: Jones and Smith - Together Again - But Not As Good!
Review: Men In Black II lacked the most important thing that the first one brought to the big screen - interesting characters. Both Smith and Jones were their usually dry selves once the film started, but overall there was not that humor and natural chemistry between them as in the first film. The script seemed very week and the only characters having some fun were Tony Schloob and the wicked witch from another planet. Even Rip Torn seemed a little held back. What saved it for me were the special effects and the Dog. A singing dog with more personality than the main cast is what held my interest a lot of the times. He was funny. The effects were cool and the car awesome. I was also looking forward to that catchy backbeated score by Danny Elfman. It was like half-pint - not all there. I will be interested in seeing how long it lasts in the theatre and what the DVD will offer, but I would wait for the video for this one. It left me wanting a lot more and disappointed in Sonnenfeld and his attempt to not quite capture the magic that was Men In Black. Sorry fans. (Did anyone read the scipt?)

Summary: special effects carry the movie, but plot is dull
Review: My oldest daughter (age 19), her friend and I went to see this movie. When we left, we all had the opinion that it was a waste of money. When the lights came up, my daughter said she hated it. She is rarely that intense about disliking anything. I think she felt lead on by the advertising, and then let down, like I did. The dog who was supposed to be so funny, was okay but not that funny or cute or whatever he was supposed to be. We had all gone wanting to give it a chance, and we loved the first movie, but like so many sequels, the second time around, a lot is old hat. It seemed to entertain the three year old that sat behind me, but the adults in the audience seemed as bored as I was. The special effects were good, the aliens great, but they didn't carry the movie and the rest of it seemed dull. People in the audience seemed ready for something good, and even laughed in the beginning as they anxiously waited for some laughs. They weren't forthcoming. Will Smith seemed uninspired and dominated the screen in a rather dull way, and Tommy Lee Jones just couldn't convince me he was changing character from being a postal clerk into a Man in Black. The transition didn't seem intense enough. The plot was thin and nothing much happened, and the end didn't even seem to make sense. It was like they had to figure some way to end the movie, so they made it up as they went along. I don't want to spoil the plot for anyone but I could't figure out why Tommy Lee was so attached to the alien at the beginning of the movie--was there a love story that was left out, or was he just a warm and incredibly compassionate guy--that he wasn't in the last movie and wasn't much in this movie? It just didn't seem to make any sense. The beginning T.V piece could have been great satire, but nothing in the film really seemed to click for me. I left the theater feeling like I wasted [MONEY]bucks. I enjoyed my popcorn though.
