Rating: Summary: One of a kind DVD!! Fully Loaded!! Review: As far as the movie "Ghostbusters" goes, you should have seen it. If you haven't you either weren't alive in the mid 80s, you were nowhere near civilization in the mid 80s, or you just don't get out much. It is a classic comedy that helped define the 80s.This DVD is loaded with amazing features. It has the trailer, plus as a bonus has trailers to three other Bill Murray films: "Groundhogs Day", "Ghostbusters 2", and "Stripes". It includes two featurettes, one from 1984, when the movie was released, and one from 1999, for the 15th anniversary. You can watch the film with three different formats. You can watch it by itself, with a mystery science theater 3000 atmosphere, or with scripts that point out interesting facts as the movie plays. It is a well designed DVD that is essential for any DVD collection.
Rating: Summary: One of the Best Movies of all time... Review: I am an up and coming film maker myself, and I can honestly say that this is one of my long lasting all time favorite movies. This movie has all there is to offer. This movie has scary moments (well, they don't scare me anymore, but when I was little, those terror dogs were traumatic) it has serious moments, but more than anything, it has funny moments. The other day I felt like watching a movie, and since I had just gotten finished watching a horror movie I wanted to watch a "feel good movie." And that's exactly what this movie is, a feel good movie. This movie makes someone in a temporary state of depression come out of it, it makes people feel good about themselves. And this movie also delivers 3 great actors, topping off the all star cast is Bill Murray, then there is Dan Aykroid (however you spell that) and then Harold Ramis. And the Proton Packs are really cool... :)
Rating: Summary: Cool, creative and a classic. No doubt. Review: This movie is a brilliant example of what a blockbuster should be. These days we get nothing but loud soundtracks and empty visual effects but in 1984 Harold Ramis and Dan Aykroyd wrote a movie that would stand the test of time. I wouldn't even say that this film looks '80s. sure, the theme song is dated but it still sounds cool and the overall look of the film hasn't dated the slightest bit in 16 years. The major strong point of this film is Elmer Bernstein's strong musical score, which is often overshadowed by Ray Parker Jnr's song. The score is very unorthodox for a film of it's kind and is very powerful is some scenes. Of course the other elements of film too are top class. Bill Murray is great as Peter Venkman, the effects still look way cool and storyline is very imaginative. Not a lot of films before on since have had the balls to have a story on such a scale as this. I've seen the deleted scenes and I do think that if they put back into the film it would not necessarily be overrunning. The material gave a lot of opportunity for creativity and I think that it has been exploited to it's full potential. There are no grouches with this movie. It is perfect all round. The DVD has a gazzillion extra features, is in Dolby 5.1 and is anamorphically enhanced at 2.40:1.
Rating: Summary: ONE OF THE BEST MOVIES OF ALL TIME Review: Ghostbusters (1984) Ghostbusters is a classic film that'struly one of the best movies ever made. The story is extremely original and has been copied, but never touched. The story is like this: three college friends open a business called "Ghostbusters",which are a group of exterminators who eliminate Ghosts. They use a unique weapon called a "Proton Pack" that shoots a radioactive beam of energy that captures a Ghost, giving the Ghostbuster an advantage to trap it. They capture one Ghost in a Hotel and are extremely sucessful. However,a man who works for the Environmental Institute feels that their Ghostbusting equipment is hazardous to the city of New York. One day,he drops by forcing them to shut of the compound that contains the captured Ghosts. This is when all Hell breaks loose.Ghosts roam the city of New York, and a Guardian is planning on taking over the World.Only the Ghostbusters can save Humanity. This film is simply incredible. It has a very tight script, very solid and strong direction from Reitman,a splendid cast, wonderful special effects, and a great script full of excellent dialog and one-liners. The film very effectively balances comedy and horror and never overdoes it.It managed to be funny and scary all at once, never in any area overdone. Ghostbusters is simply one of the greatest movies of all time. Buy it now, because if it's not in your video collection, your not a movie buff like you think you are. On a side note,...although Ghostbusters is marketed as Family fun,it's quite a scary movie. There are plenty of scary moments and there's even some profanity (a REAL big no-no in a kid's movie). However, the 9 and up crowd will absolutely love it and will probably want to see it over and over and over. END
Rating: Summary: A classic that you can't miss Review: There's only a few movies that are still famous and that people still talk about after almost twenty years, and "Ghostbusters" is one of them. I don't know anybody who hasn't ever seen the movie, but I know one thing, if you haven't seen it yet, you got to. After you see it, you'll see what all the fuss is about. What makes "Ghostbusters" so great is that there's not any other movie that's anything like it. Some scientists who study paranormal effects on people are kicked out of the university that they work for and live at. They decide to start a business where they call themselves the Ghostbusters. They must find a way to rid the city of a bunch of ghouls and ghosts before the creatures put an end to the world. If you like ghost movies that aren't really considered horror movies, but more of an adventure/comedy, you'll probably like "Ghostbusters." It has some good special effects and all the ghosts and the monsters look cool. It also has a good storyline and some good performances from the Ghostbusters and the supporting cast. It's a classic you don't want to miss.
Rating: Summary: An '80s Classic Review: Ghostbusters is surely one of the best films of all time.Ever since I was a kid I've been a huge Ghostbusters fan. It's been two decades since this gem was released and it still manages to be entertaining, funny, and scary. The story is extremely creative and for it's time was completely original.Four guys are Ghost Exterminators and rid New York of lots of nasty supernatural baddies. The movie's quotes are quite possibly the best and most memorable quotes in movie history. Is there a more quotable movie than this? The performances are excellent.Murray steals the show as Peter Venkman, who has the best lines and is easily the funniest of the four Ghostbusters. The special F/X are great, and even though this was released way way way back in 1984,their still good enough for competition against the usual CGI monsters we get Today. The finale is also really cool and the music score is terrific.Overall,Ghostbusters is an excellent movie that's truly one of the best films of all time. The most memorable quotes, funniest moments, coolest monster bustin' scenes, best theme music. On a side note, although it's deemed as a Family film,it's a little scary for young kids, despite being more of a comedy than horror.I was really scared when I first saw this (when I was about 3 or 4),but don't let that put you off by watching it with older kids (9+).There are two things that kept me from giving this a perfect five star rating.1,the plot at times moved a little slow and 2,although lots of people will probably disagree with me on this, but in my honest opinion,I thought the sequel, Ghostbusters II,was a lot better.Still,I liked Ghostbusters 1 very very much. Now,where's Ghostbusters III? Rated PG for some horror/comedy violence and some salty language.
Rating: Summary: The perfect movie Review: I'm a young film student and study alot of movies, so most find it hard to believe that Ghostbusters is my favorite movie. Most people think of Ghostbusters a silly kids movie before they even sit down and watch it. This is why Ghostbusters isn't given the credit it deserves. I hope that I can show you why this movie is comparable to Citizen Kane. When I was a kid this was my favorite movie, but I never really understood the movie for what it was. As I grew up, I had grown apart from the movie. My favorite was Mr.Smith goes to Washington. My tastes started to become that of a snoby film critic, who's head is so far up their own a@! that they totaly miss the point of what a movie should be. Not some over the top artsy movie made only to win an oscar, but a simple sense of genius made to give enjoyment to the fans. Movies made not to win awards, but to win smiles. By writers, directors, actors, and the whole crew, who don't care if the movies critticaly aclaimed or dumped upon. Just as long the everyday person enjoys it, and because they enjoyed working on it. It's amazing I was able to figure this out, since my teacher was like all those critics. Why is Ghostbusters so great? Let me reasure you that if you have any doubts about this movie that you can not be dissapointed! This is one of the reasons this movie is so great. It doesn't matter weather you're 6,16,or even 60 you will enjoy this movie. Ghostbusters has something in it for everybody. No matter your intrest. Weather it be ghosts, ghostbusting, comic books, comedy, sci-fi, action, actors that compliment eachother on stage, theateratrical genius, movies that don't make you say,"that was so fake",or don't make you try and figure out how something like that happened, movies that give you something to talk about afterward, movies that you spot something new everytime(trust me I've seen it more then 100 times and I still pick up on things), movies that never get old, or movies that don't have boaring parts,or slow moving scenes, witty comedy,or movies you can enjoy with the whole family. Even if you like scientificly true movies,or don't believe in ghosts(I don't either), Ghostbusters has a very sound science to it. There is a great website that has a very detailed report on the science of it. So you see know how old you are, or what you like you will enjoy this movie. I have argued this movie's singnificance in class time and time agian. Ghostbusters comes up often in class, and not just by me. This movie has an example of almost every technique in it. It's montage is one of the most famous in movie history. Well, I know I said alot, but Ghostbusters deserves it. I also hope I've helped you make your decision about this movie. I didn't really get to the plot, but I think I've said enough. Thanks for reading my thoughts. Now buy the movie and see if you agree with me.
Rating: Summary: Still good quality entertainment Review: Unlike a lot of other movies being pushed as family fare today, this movie actually had a lot of plot and was enjoyable for all ages. 3 unconventional scientists (and one mechanic/all purpose man) go into business for themselves and face all kinds of wacky legal and social mishaps before saving New York City and the world from a major demon. Although Akroyd is shown smoking (something that is unlikely to surface in today's family movies) in buildings, the superb acting and special effects negate it's presence. The infamous Stay Puff climax is still really awe inspiring even after the introduction of computer animation. New special effects does not always mean better. The only reason why the movie dates itself is the inference of EPA officials as mean-spirited and reckless bureaucrats (even if the actual equipment used by the men could constitute an environmental hazard) . That this particular agency is selected is signifigant, because in real life, then-president Ronald Reagan won election promising to free businesses from real and perceived overregulation by EPA officials. The EPA as villan is quintesential 80's
Rating: Summary: It's the Stay Puft marshmallow man. Review: Here's the formula... Ivan Reitman's direction, the warped minds of Dan Ackroyd and Harold Ramis writing, Bill Murray. The main reason the second one was so bad was because the first one was so good. I don't remember how many times I saw this movie in the summer of 1984. I do remember I laughed every time. The DVD finally does it justice on the small screen as well. And some of the outtakes make for fun viewing as well.
