Summary: Harryhausen's Effects Are Great, But...
Review: Special effects--even those by Ray Harryhausen--cannot make a movie work on their own, and this movie is particularly silly, with San Francisco threatened by a giant octopus, of all things. And a mighty strange octopus it is, too: the budget was so low they couldn't afford all eight arms, so "octopus" is really more of an honorary title than anything else.

Harryhausen does a lot with a limited budget, and his effects are the highlight of the film, but unfortunately they are the ONLY highlights of the film. For hard-core Harryhausen fans only.

Summary: You can not make good Science Fiction on a Low budget
Review: The low budget really hampered Harryhausen in getting the desired effects work he wanted on film, as a result the mutated octopus looks fake and has only six arms, as opposed to eight. Made at a time when Hollywood still thumbed it's nose at science fiction (Until Stanley Kubrick proved otherwise with 2001 a Space Odyssey). No wonder Ray left Hollywood to work in England where the film budgets were larger and he could put more detail into his effects work. This was not one of his better movies and he seems reluctant to talk about it today.

Summary: A classic science fiction movie from this time period
Review: The plot was pretty much what one would expect. Ther special effects while not always the best did have some high points. I feel these type of movies are more entertaining when you relize when they were made and just sit back and enjoy the movie. I own a copy of this movie and would recomend it to anyone who might think of buying it.

Summary: Tentacles unleashed!
Review: The special effects were acceptable to me but i think they were sub-par considering other, better films of this era. Good cast, gotta love Faith Domergue, and Kenneth Tobey is a strong actor. The film itself was of good quality and played clearly. Its a fun film but if your looking for better sea dwelling monsters check out The Monster That Challenged the World.

Summary: Only thing good about it were the monster scenes.
Review: This film could have been better if they had more monster scenes.Harryhaussen did a good job with the effects but that was about all I liked about it.Another thing is this monster died to easily.Godzilla could have taken lots of torpedoes and he would have been hardly scratched but the giant octopus in this movie died after being hit with one lousy torpedoe.

Summary: 2 stars for Harryhausen
Review: This flick took forever to get going and when the Octopus does show it is all too late. Most Harryhausen is peppered with dynamation but this flick keeps you waiting til the end. The effects were good but you wait a good, long, boring hour for it. Wait and see this one on TV but buy 20 Million Miles to Earth or Beast From 20,000 Fathoms if you want to add early Harryhausen to your collection.

Summary: please release it in colour
Review: This is a brilliant film. The giant octopus was cool. I would say it is a great film, so please release it in colour.

Summary: Godzilla did it better......
Review: This is actually a pretty disapointing turn out by Ray.
The lower budget and B-Level acting are pretty evident through out this whole picture. This might have explained why later on, Ray did his effects work movies by going to Europe, where the budgets were bigger. There were better production values there, and he turned his attention away from Atomic age monsters, to the creatures of classical mythology, where he would do his best work.
In the early 1950;s, they turned out so many B-atomic age monster pictures, but the only one that has really endured as well as it as, was a creature that came from movie studios in Japan, a creature we know as Godzilla.

Summary: Ray Harryhausen Is The Man
Review: This is just another in a long line of Ray Harryhausen special effects movies. Like most of the sci-fi/horror,fantasy movies he was involved with it's truly his special effects that is the true star of the movie. More so than any actor that ever appeared in any of these films. A true debt is owed to this man who gave us great effects in a time when special effects were almost non-existant. His effects were what spurred movies into the effects of today. Without Ray there would be no Star Wars or Independence Day type movies to be sure.So do yourself a favor and get a Ray Harryhausen movie today. You wont regret a minute of movie watching. Summary: Ok, but need's more action.
Review: This movie is a bit exciting and fun at some parts, but if you want my opinion, this movie got very dull at some parts. If you want a good monster movie, try The Black Scorpion.
