Summary: Funny, but disappointing overall
Review: Last weekend, I saw "Men in Black II", the followup to one of my favorite movies of 1997. You can read about the plot from any old website, so I'm only going to speak about my personal opinions of the movie. What I expected to see before I sat down to watch "Men in Black II" is a reasonably long (at least 2 hours) movie that was at least as funny, innovative, and memorable as the original was, if not a movie that completely surpasses it. What I saw was satisfying, but not to the point that I was wanting it to be. The men in black (Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones) are back doing the same exciting jobs they did in the original. "Men in Black II" has a lot of parts and lines that will make you laugh out loud, but the movie itself (plot, script, and even the acting) can't hold a candle to the original, to say the least. The other thing I didn't like about "Men in Black II" is that it ends way too soon! Right when I started laughing and enjoying the movie the most, it just ends all of a sudden! It lasts about 90 minutes, if that long. I do recommend taking a trip to the theatre to see "Men in Black II" if you're a fan of the original. You will do a good bit of laughing (the dog is hilarious!) and you'll probably like the movie to a point; just don't expect it to be as groundbreaking or as memorable as the original.

Summary: bland sequel
Review: **1/2 "Originality," is, almost by definition, a one-time thing. In 1997, the original "Men in Black" struck a nerve with movie audiences by showing that even a big budget blockbuster, heavily loaded down with state-of-the-art, computer-generated special effects, could still manage to seem light on its feet. The makers of that film pulled off this feat of gravitational legerdemain by coming up with a concept and a script overflowing with creativity, wit, imagination and a cachet of "hipness" to go along with its tone of anarchic playfulness. Well, five years have passed and we now have "Men in Black II" to confirm what most of us suspected all along: that works that rely on "uniqueness" as their prime selling point are rarely ever able to duplicate their success a second time around. Five years can be a lifetime in pop culture and what seemed "cool" one summer can appear decidedly "old hat" the next. Without that aura of cutting edge newness that defined the original, "Men in Black II" seems like just another loud, over-the-top summertime blockbuster. Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones are back playing Jay and Kay, agents for the government's top secret organization whose job it is to monitor the activities of the thousands of aliens who have secretly infiltrated earth's societies and to help protect the planet from any possible threat from interstellar space. Smith and Jones still appear to be quite comfortable in their roles and they are aided by Lara Flynn Boyle, as Serleena, the baddest alien this side of Darth Vader, and Rip Torn, delightful as Zed, the slightly cracked head of the Men in Black agency. Although the special effects in this film are, as one would expect in this day and age, astonishing and virtually seamless, the same can definitely NOT be said for the film's screenplay. The story moves along at a fairly fast clip, but it rarely makes us laugh. In fact, the script comes across as undisciplined nonsense, lacking both logic and coherence. Unlike in the earlier film, we get the sense that literally everything here has been placed at the service of the special effects. There's an awful lot of running and bouncing around but rarely to any point or purpose. Indeed, we end up feeling at the end somehow more exhausted and drained than exhilarated and euphoric. It would appear that director Barry Sonnenfeld thought that if he could just keep the thing MOVING we wouldn't notice that he had nothing new to offer in this retread. It doesn't work. In fact, if "Men in Black II" shows us anything, it is that just because something MOVES doesn't mean that it can't bore us at the same time.

Summary: Better than the first
Review: Ignore the people on here who say the jokes were fewer, or weaker; they must have been either braindead or not paying very much attention. Although the movie is very short (88 minutes), that's because not a single moment was wasted; it's literally jam-packed with jokes from the first moment to the last that are funnier and more biting than those in the first movie. Nothing is overextended, even the fight scenes are perfectly timed. Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones have even more amusing interactions. Go see it!

Summary: Well, It's A Movie With A Singing Dog...
Review: If you really don't have anything else to do... you've lent all your books to your friends, you've already had your work-out, and there's no chance of going back to work for double overtime pay, then see this movie- otherwise save your cash- or try and catch it at the matinee fair. Sure, it's 'okay' and it might make you temporarily forget you didn't get the promotion. But the special effects aren't worth foregoing a nice evening at home with your VCR and your favorite beverage. The movie will throw you for a few giggles (postal service jokes- again) and it's a nice neat little story, but don't expect a twisting, turning roller coaster ride of cinematic pleasure. There are no surprises in the newest Men In Black movie. If you go, you will see a lot of Wil Smith, which is generally a laugh-til-it-hurts good time... but his wise-cracks are fewer and less spontaneous than usual. The movie must have been like a vacation for Tommy Lee Jones... he's there but without any personality. At some point you almost hope the aliens do destroy earth so that something exciting will actually happen. They did throw in a vine-throwing alien in lingerie to catch the attention of viewers bearing a large quantity of adolescent male hormones, but a little weed killer and she would have been Victoria Secret ala insalata. I feel sorry for Rosario Dawson, playing the would-be-love of Agent K... as you will most likely remember her for her passionate blinking in the last scene. The best part of this movie? Frank, the talking and occasionally, singing Pug.

Summary: What do people see in this movie?
Review: This film really did not live up to the hype that they placed on it. The Jokes were weak, The CGI effects looked like CGI effects, once again Rick Baker's creature effects make-up looked fake and the story...well there was no story. If they make a MEN IN BLACK III, Count me out.

Summary: They're Back, but They've Changed
Review: Men In Black II is funny and exciting. However, it just is not the same as the first Men In Black. The jokes were fewer, and there were less surprises. MIB II was well done, and the special effects were cool (as were the monsters and the car and the weapons), but the first one still strikes me as better. It was almost as if in the second one you were expecting what was going to happen. But yes, go see it. MIB II is worth your time. MIB II is a great movie, no matter what has changed a little about it. Trust me. I gave it 4 stars, didnt I???

Summary: This Comedy is Nothing But Dumb
Review: Whoever decided that a sequel to "Men in Black" was a good idea must have been nuts. The film is being listed as a family comedy but the movie only offers a handful of laughs, that come from dry and boring humor. The plot is ridiculously dumb and I highly doubt that you will care about what happens as the plot is extremely underdeveloped, and the same goes with the characters. While watching this film you will wonder why the film was made in the first place. For entertainment reasons, there seems to be no answer. The obvious reason was to cash in on a sequel to a film that did great a few years back. It saddens me that people in this society would want to make money when an actor or actress' career can end up being ruined. Continuing with the latter, many accomplished actors' and actresses' talents were not put to use to their full potential. Take, for example, famous people like Tommy Lee Jones, Will Smith, and Lara Flynn Boyle. Jones is a veteran actor and it is terrible to see such a great actor have to act in such a marred film. Will Smith has great skill in this business but not many of the films that he was in were ever able to show his skill. Smith gives a stunted performance because of the terrible script and storyline. For those of you that are familiar with the television show, "The Practice," you know how Lara Flynn Boyle gives a great performance. Her acting skills in this movie are not even used to their full potential because of the script and story. The previous was just a small example of the people that had great acting talent but couldn't use it to their full potential in this movie. You must be asking yourself where the funny and entertaining parts come in. Unfortunately, there is not much of it. The rare, funny moments are from characters like the dog and some other smalle roles; nothing hysterical is from the main characters. Developing on the dog, he basically stole the show. His jokes, songs, and witty remarks to everything are the funniest things in this film. If there is one reason to see this movie then this is the reason why. The plot and the characters in this movie are not developed whatsoever and you will be baffled by the monotonous and boring storyline. The characters are one dimensional and you will won't care whether they are living or dead by the end of this film. The only thing that I liked about the movie was the dog, and just for him, I tacked on an extra star. If the movie came without the addition of the great little canine the movie would have deserved one star. If you feel that you must see this film, I suggest that you wait for it to come out on video and DVD. Otherwise, the movie should be skipped. Happy Viewing!

Summary: Pathetic - VOLUME <> QUALITY
Review: What happened to this movie?? That is the question that I kept asking myself as I watched this mess. Sure, there were parts of this movie that were interesting and funny but the overall effect was very unpleasant. Will Smith's overblown performance got tiresome real quick and the Worms make Jar-Jar Binks look like Sir Laurence Olivier! This movie could have been alot better, why do Hollywood movie makers have so much trouble with good movie concepts like Men In Black?

Summary: just as good as the first
Review: I know that most people felt that MIB II wasn't as good as the first but I have to disagree. Sure, the first movie was 10 minutes longer but so what! MIB II still had the humor, action, and creativity just like the first MIB. Laura Flynn Boyle looked good as the evil alien creature. Tommy Lee Jones and Will Smith did as good of a job in this sequel as they did in the original. I hope that the DVD of MIB II will have extra footage when it comes out.
