Review: i thought this movie was very good. will smith's character seemed a little more dry in this movie than the first but maybe they are just trying to show how working in that business grows on you. i do think it is a movie we can watch over and over again just like the first one.

Summary: Same content, surprise ending
Review: This MIB may not be as good as the first one, but it lacked the annoying bug character Egert (spelling? not exactly a common name). The main "bad guy" in this MIB was eye pleasing and the "savior" is definately unexpected. As always, another MIB is absolutely welcome because so far, they have both been comedically entertaining. Will Smith was georgous (a talented actor too), and Tommy Lee Jones was excellent. I liked the dog (obviously, screening did this producer wonders) and the fact that he had a larger role this time. All in all? You wont be regretting this purchase.

Review: There is a sad fact about movies: If it makes money, it'll likely get a cashin sequel. Even remakes like Doctor Dolittle manage it - anything to bring in a few extra bucks. But when 5 years exist between original and sequel, surely it's not a case of acute cashin sequilitis?
Alas, yes. This movie took similar time to materialise to Star Wars Episode I... yet somehow, it still managed to add so very little to the excellent film that was Men In Black. Now there was a class act of a blockbuster. Decent effects, yes, but it boasted Tommy Lee Jones' fantastic restrained-yet-hilarious performance, delivering excellent lines with perfect speed; it had a decent script; and obviously it offered a new slant on the alien conspiracy theory idea. It was great, even ending with a lovely unnecessary but really effective existencial visual.
MIB2 falls flat on its face because, instead of saying "Hey, what more could happen with the Men in Black," they simply re-do the original film, albeit with less impact and a far-too-great sense of self mockery. The list of problems is as follows: The story is a virtual rewrite. "The Galaxy" is substituted for "The Light" (quite what said Light is, we are not told); The Bug is substituted for Serleena; The new/old agent theme is still present, albeit the roles are reversed; the story takes similar turns, though slower, with a similar (admittadly effective) ending visual of a similarly perspective-setting nature.
Next, Tommy Lee Jones. Before he was restrained and sardonic, for me the highlight of Men in Black... here, he simply looks bored for the duration of his scenes. Clearly just roped in for the cash, and to rescue an already bleak so-called "plot," he seems incapable of that lightning-fast delivery we were so gifted with last time. Will Smith dumbs down his character to seem ever inferior to Jones, which doesn't help his already "love him or hate him" fan status.
Then, there's the humour. Yes, there's one or two decent lines - the majority of them from Smith after neuralising someone - but there's simply too much of it. Everyone's playing for laughs, even Rip Torn's Z (in a cringe-inducingly awful karate scene), and there are pointless cameos from the likes of Michael Jackson (a wasted oppertunity) and Tony Shalhoub's Jeeves (who simply rehashes the head-shooting joke from the first movie). It tries so hard to amuse, it ends up a simple mockery of the whole concept. The other agents are feeble, one bursting into tears for no reason, the others cowering at the sight of Tommy Lee Jones' character. Humour is a good thing, but constant?
Lastly, there's the fact that it could actually have been really good. The film's only decent ideas (Jeffrey the Subway Worm; A super-fast multi-limbed postal worker; The Statue of Liberty neuraliser, etc) are ignored, forgotten or plain wasted. This is in line with various plot mistakes (the guy with two heads disappeared between scenes, not to be seen again) and just acts to annoy us that this film was so nearly a riot.
Why did it take 5 years to produce something we'd expect them to take 2 years to do? It's a tired cashin. Even Danny Elfman's music doesn't inspire, and armed with some hefty visuals (one or two actually coming off well, particularly the hilarious "race who live in a locker" scenes) it has the look of what it is: The "bigger, louder sequel" that accompanies ANY film these days.
It's a let down. Worse than that, it's so short that the action slugs along and takes a final mad dash in the closing reel. Do yourself a favour and stay happy with the far superior original.

Summary: MIB 2
Review: The inevitable sequel to the immensely popular MEN IN BLACK is on DVD, and while the film isn't as good as the original, the DVD extras are impressive. Like most Hollywood sequels, the tired "Bigger is Better" rule applies here (Somebody has to throw that old Hollywood "How-To" book in the bin). However there is much fun to be had throughout the somewhat un-original plot. Will Smith, returning to the comedy side of things after Michael Mann's ALI, gives another "I ain't touchin' that thing!" performance. And Tommy Lee Jones returns as straight-faced Agent K after getting his memory re-inserted to save manikind from the threat of alien invasion. It's fun, yes, but not as good as it could have been. At least it's better than WILD WILD WEST.
The DVD extras make up for it though, with a substantial amount of extras on the second dic of the 2 Disc set. Starting off with a Director Commentary, 14 (!) Production Featurettes, Alternate Ending, the predictable Will Smith music video, Multi-Angle Deconstructions, Blooper Reel, DVD-rom content, Marketing Campaigns and trailers.

Review: ....when I saw it the first time in 1997!!! The only reason that this film gets 3 stars is because of Lara Flynn Boyle in a push-up bra. Let the droolin' begin boys. Stay away from this one, not even worth a rental; your best bet is to find it on Kazaa and watch it for free.

Summary: Highly disappointing!
Review: Man, the trailer for this movie was promising, but once I saw it I realized I had made a big mistake. Don't be fooled! All the funny parts are in the previews! This movie was a carbon copy of the first Men in Black, except that Tommy Lee Jones' role was reversed with Will Smith's this time. The only thing that could have saved this movie, or at least made it half decent, is if Zed (MIB leader) had died and all the characters are like "Where's Zed?" and Frank the pug comes out and says "Zed's dead baby, Zed's dead" kinda like Pulp Fiction.

Review: Men in Black II (Barry Sonnenfeld, 2002) The tagline on the posters for MIB2 was "Same planet. New scum." It should have been "Same movie. New cameo." Sonnenfeld and writer Robert Gordon managed to make almost the exact same movie twice. Same jokes, same basic plot, save overuse of special effects. It was funny the first time. **

Review: THE STORY: Evil Aliens, lead by Serleena (Lara Flynn Boyle)are looking for something that would help them to destroy Earth. The MIB need to stop 'em and Agent Jay (Will SMith) is assigned. But the only one who can help is former MIB Agent and partner Kay (Tommy Lee Jones), who has been deneuralised and works at a postal office. So now Jay must tell him about his past in order to fight Serleena and save the planet. THE CAST: Will Smith and Tommy-Lee Jones definately had chemistry in the first part but in this one I couldn't help feeling they had been forced to act because they seem rather stiff and do not interact as great as they did 5 years ago. The supporting cast has little to do because they all have so underwritten parts no really cares about them. Especially annoying: Johnny Noxville with two heads and nothing but worn out gags... THE FILM: I've seen lots of stuff that was supposed to be funny and wasn't but this one really takes the cake. Not only does it replicate the story of the original, it makes the big sequel mistakes and tries to put in as many effects as it can, making it more like a child's birthday than a movie. Sure the effects people does create cool alien but in MIIB it was just too much. Stylisticly the sequel has the same cold look as the original. Just as pretty much everything is the same, only without any energy. Then there's the running time of 88 minutes, which means, we only get about 40 minutes of Tommy Lee Jones, which is far too little. IT's just that I can't find anything good about this movie except the music by Danny Elfman and the Aliens in the locker but they're not really worth sitting through this stale film. It's not that I regret having seen this one but I was stunned how many unoriginal ideas a screenwriter can pack into 88 minutes of film.

Summary: Men In Black II- Your Average Summer Movie
Review: Men In Black II was quite hilarious actually. Will Smith really made this movie funny and worth seeing. Tommy Lee Jones was entertaing to see as well, but this is definetly not one his best films. Director Barry Sonelfield tries, but fails on all attempts except by trying to make you laugh, because this film really makes you laugh. Also in the cast, Lara Flynn Boyle, Rosario Dawson, Tony Shaloub and the likable Frank the Pug. Interesing characters, stupid plot, humorous jokes, those are essentially the ingredients of this film as well as a hopeless script. Put them all together you basically have: ...! This film is mainly funny, actually it's only funny. The plot, is primarily, an agent must recruit another agent, due to his possible extensive amount of knowledge which earth's survival depends on. Whoa, what a plot, my God truly amazing. Now, this is definetly oscar material. Ha, what a laugh! The film could have been improved, but oh well a bit late for that right? Men In Black II is rated PG-13 for Sci-fi Action Violence and some Provocative Humor, oh that's a new one, provocative humor. So an exceptable choice for preteens but for the nightmare prone. The film is probably one the dumbest and least intelligent films you will ever see in your lifetime, ... Men In Black II is still playing amazingly, in theatres everywhere ... Not worth your money, not worth your time, you will be losing valuable time of your life it you see this movie. TERRIBLE, TERRIBLE, TERRRIBLE, maybe I should give this movie one star, ... okay well that about wraps this up. Simply, don't see MEN IN BLACK II, just DON'T!!!

Summary: Sonnenfeld Does Not Play Well with Others--Sequels, That Is
Review: Avid fans of MIB were no doubt in shock (and remorse) after they saw MIB II. Yes, Sonnenfeld is a brilliant director. Yes, Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones are talented actors. But no amount of first-movie references nor neat little camera tricks were going to save this film. Don't get me wrong, it was somewhat entertaining. There were a few scenes that made me giggle a bit (such as Jones becoming a militant post master). However, there are no intergalactically reaching jokes that could have made this movie better than its original form. Sonnenfeld had a hit with MIB, and a DEFINITE miss with MIB II.
