Summary: AN AWESOME MOVIE!
Review: Need I say more?I can'twait until this comes on satellite TV in England! I loved this movie on the big screen! The story is set in the future and concerns an elite army unit sent to an alien planet to deal with mutant insects intent on destroying Earth. The action scenes are first rate, the special effects are as superb as, say 'The Abyss' and 'Independence Day' and the setpieces, what more can you say but AWESOME!!!!! END

Summary: Most underrated movie of 1997
Review: A lot of people did not like this film because I think that they had a misconception of what the movie was supposed to be. The criticisms I've heard (not just on here, but in general) say that they didn't like the plot/characters or that the film was to violent/gory. I think this is mostly the fault of the studio which marketed the film poorly.These people have valid points, and I don't want to dismiss them completely, but I think they're looking at the film from the wrong point of view. Starship Troopers is a war movie. Plain and simple. While many try to compare this movie with "Star Wars" or "Total Recall", it would be more accurate to put it alongside of "All Quiet on the Western Front." Starship Troopers is not meant to be touching or emotional. Rico may seem shallow to us but in a movie overshadowed by powerful Nazi themes, he is the ultimate Lantern-Jawed Arian. And while the other characters may seem equally obvious, we need to remember that unlike most stories where the war is the vehichle for the players, in Starship Troopers the characters are the vehicle to tell the story of the war. END

Summary: Non stop action and fun. It's a great no-brainer!
Review: There really isn't much to the story line, but the amazing special effects make up for what it is lacking. This is just a fun movie to sit back and enjoy all that they have to throw at you. Its good to occasionally see a movie that doesn't make you think too hard. Make sure you turn your brain off before viewing, because you definitely won't need it for this one! END

Review: I felt the overall plot of this movie was very creative, but the characters in this movie were a bit lost. Trying to have romance when this movie is clearly not designed for it is a mistake. It's action sequences are really intense though. END

Summary: Verhoeven's masterpiece?
Review: Practically the celluloid embodiment of the "love-it-or-hate-it" concept, for my money "Starship Troopers" is great fun; a nimble blend (and send-up) of '50s space opera sci-fi, '40s/'50s war movies and propaganda films, and '90s teen TV dramas like "Beverly Hills 90210" and "Dawson's Creek." True, the movie bears only a vague resemblance to Heinlein's classic book, and those hoping for a faithful screen adaptation are going to be disappointed, no doubt about it. Taken on its own merits, though, "Starship Troopers" is thoroughly entertaining, with great special effects, a strong script, and plenty of eye candy for both sexes. And the sight of Neil Patrick Harris in a military uniform that's more than a little influenced by German uniforms of the Second World War (Obergrupenfuhrer Doogie Howser?) is just about worth the price of admission alone! Note for parents: It's probably not a great choice for young kids to see, with some fairly graphic violence and a couple of nude scenes. It's nothing most kids haven't seen by the time they're 14 or so, but you might want to think twice about letting your 8-year-old watch it.

Review: in the far future,the armed forces battle giant bugs on thier planet.one of the drill instructers is played by the pervert in sleepers.this movie is far to violent for chilkdren.i cant belive the second part even came fromthis one.this one rules but the sceond one left a lot to be desired.i think military,action and sci fi fans will all enjiy this one.anyone who is squeamish will not like it,as it is very graphic and very violent.there are 2 basic chicks in this movie.a air force chick whose playing two guys and a sexy red head who pines after one of those guys.i think the first chick is nasty but the red head is awesome.she must be pretty co mfortable without a shirt because she takes it off a number of times.this movie kicks butt!some of its futuristic concepts are neat.the violent parts are very graphic.legs flying,guts spraying...........its great.

Summary: "Troopers" is on my personal "Top 5" list.
Review: "Starship Troopers" is one of the most enjoyable movies I have seen. It's on my personal top-5 list, and I have seen it 30+ times since it was released in 1997.
Paul Verhoeven is one of the best directors in the world, possibly my favorite (along with Hughes). He is able to infuse the film with just the right mix of high-octane special effects, great battles, awesome space panoramas, and love scenes.
As a science-fiction buff, I am entralled by the futuristic spacecraft (which look much more realistic than Star Trek vehicles) and the hideous alien menace of the Arachnids. As an action fan, the battles more than sate my desire for some shoot-em-up fun. As a moviegoer, I enjoy Verhoeven's exploration of Heinlein's militaristic society ideas. Is it so far-fetched to believe that in the future a course will be taught on "how Democracy failed"? Look at the terrorist threat today (which some like to ignore).
Speaking of Heinlein, I have not read his book. Many of those who do not like "Starship Troopers" tend to compare it negatively to the novel. I respect their love of the novel, but I am a fan of Verhoeven's movie, not Heinlein's book.
If you haven't seen this, be prepared for some gore. Be prepared for main characers dying left and right. Be prepared for the Brain Bug.
Buy the DVD. Lots of good features, and a first-rate movie that has been underrated for years.

Summary: SUPERBIT DVDS ARE A RIP-OFF
Review: I did not notice any improvement with this superbit version of Starship Troopers. The picture quality was the same. And the audio quality was the same. Picture and audio were exactly like that of a regular dvd. Don't waste the extra money it cost to buy superbit formatted dvds. Buy regular dvds instead.

Summary: Is this film a cinematic DC "Action Comic" book...
Review: ...or a leftist "cautionary tale"? I approached it from the former perspective after having read the Robert Heinlein book it's based on many years ago. The book was one of Heinlein's post-WW II string of YA fiction, with teenage and post-teen main characters I grew to love in junior high and senior high. I figured what the hey, at worst it'll be light entertainment of the PlayStation type. I was resigned to the likelihood that it would bear no resemblance to the book, as movies hardly ever do. But this film doesn't take all that many liberties with the plot, surprisingly. We have new recruit John Rico, who joins the infantry in time of war over his father's angry objections. Then both parents are killed in an enemy attack on his hometown of Buenos Aires. In the book, B-A isn't the hometown and only Johnnie's mother is killed because she's there visiting, after which Dad joins up himself. Johnnie's commanding officer ends up being his old high school poli sci teacher Mr. Raczac, whose commission is reactivated when war was declared after B-A was attacked. In the book, the teacher and the officer are two different people. (This composite role is played by Michael Ironside, who's excelled in tough-guy supporting roles for years, the chief one being the Ham Tyler role in the "V" miniseries). There's a love interest in the form of Carmen Ibanez, a charming and wholesomely pretty former classmate of Johnnie's who joined up to be a starship pilot. So far so good, but the whole tone of the film isn't exactly the high adventure the book was. There are news reports of the trumpet fanfare war propaganda variety, along with chiche bellicose and bigoted "the only good one is a dead one" rhetoric from high command all the way down to the man-in-the-street. Along with the assertions "so what if we infringed on Bug territory-we're the humans and we got the right, y'know?" As in "menschen uber alles", right? And I can't believe it's a coincidence that all dress uniforms worn by the military feature short-and-wide lapel jackets with a suspicious resemblance to WW II Wehrmacht and SS gear. It's about as subtle as the nuclear mortar rounds used in this film. "Look at what the future brings if we let the right wing take over. No vote unless you've served in the military (that wrinkle actually does show up in the book). While you're in the service, you can be flogged for ignoring procedure. Televised capital punishment. Lectures on `why democracy failed' (that one isn't in the book). Propaganda on the tube that turns our innocent kids into gun nuts. I tell ya, these mean-spirited fascists are warmongers when it comes to present-day humans in the real world, much less space aliens in a sci-fi flick." And so on. This film can be enjoyed as light entertainment, as I said. I'm just hoping that there isn't a bit of Michael Moore refusenik zealotry between the lines, that's all. Though not as creative as the Star Wars films or Trek, it isn't as trashy as I expected.
