Review: You know and I know this movie is so boring it will leave you with nothing! One of the worst! Truthfully, this motion picture is an absolute waste of time.... Dosen't deserve a one star, except for special effects. Almost ruined Mary's career.

Review: Guess it is because I'm rating a "5 stars" for this one the day I'm ordering the DVD. To be honest when I was buying my system, Abyss was the first film in my mind for a terrific watch - unfortunately it was released 1.5 years later. Anyway I'm sure it'll worth the wait and my advise to anyone who has a like for fantastic films is to "get this one", watch it!

Summary: James Cameron's Secord Best Work Next To ALIENS
Review: Well what can I say! I saw this film 11 years ago at the cinema, I was only 13, and I loved every minute of it. I was however left a little confused as to what part the aliens in the film actually play. Then I saw the Special Edition and understood it completely. The film as it was was a brilliant piece of film making, as it stands now it's a masterpiece. Wonderful camera work and superb effects. 100 times better than Titanic, Jim make more like this one.

Summary: THIS is why you should own a DVD player!
Review: Few other "Special Edition" discs get you as intimately familiar with a film and the film-making process as this new DVD does, though the laser disc collector's edition of TERMINATOR 2: JUDGEMENT DAY comes awful close. Now you fortunate DVD-player owners can get for about $30-$40 dollars what we laser disc owners shelled out $100 for years ago, plus more. A heart-pounding movie, beautifully and intricately shot under nearly impossible circumstances (it wasn't nicknamed "The toughest shoot in film history" for nothing). Part military action thriller, part love story, and all impressive, THE ABYSS SPECIAL EDITION on DVD gives you both the theatrical version and expanded version of the movie (even the laser disc only had a one-version option), documentaries (the longer one is not to be missed), and enough bonus features to monopolize your entire day. It can really take the whole afternoon and evening to see it ALL. Granted, at 171 minutes the expanded version is a bit cumbersome at times, but by then you are so engrossed you don't mind. We've all seen good-looking special effects movies undermined by a so-so script or lame acting. But THE ABYSS delivers where it counts -- solid performances and an often tense script. This is the version to own. All other versions and formats of this film pale in comparison - even the expensive laser disc version. For what you'll pay for this disc you get much more than your money's worth. This collection sets a new standard for discs with bonus features. And if you enjoyed THE MATRIX for how it took full advantage of your surround-sound system, this disc will also please. Make sure your subwoofer is turned on.

Summary: The Abyss: Special Edition
Review: This DVD is excellent, not only is it a great movie (with excellent sound if you have Dolby Digital), but the extra features are unreal. While flipping through the features on disc 2 I found some hidden secrets (numerous face huggers from Aliens and a harrier jet from True Lies). When you find the secrets it shows you a different preview of Aliens, True Lies and ther is also one for Strange Days. Even if your not a big fan of The Abyss, it's worth buying just for the extra features (which will take about 5 times as long to get through than the Special Edtion of the film). If you love special effects you'll love this film. The additional footage towards the end also lets the viewer know why there was a storm at the start of the film.

Summary: One of my ten best picks
Review: This is one of my favorite movies of all time ranking up there with the likes of Jurassic Park the Indiana Jones series, Star Wars and Braveheart. This movie will thrill you, excite you, cause you to sit on the edge of your seat and can even make some cry. Though this is a science fiction story, the sets appear so real and the special effects so extraordinary (revolutionary for their time) that you are drawn in to think it's all real. Then comes the real sci-fi when you are presented with underwater aliens who are portrayed as intelligent and peaceful creatures with advanced water technology. The DVD I just received and it is extraordinary, the transfer for a 10+ year old film is incredible and the sound in Dolby Digital is a delight, you hear things going on all around you. My only gripe would be that they would have upped the dialogue a little more, sometimes the characters are hard to hear. I have not even begun to look into the special features but will come back and let you know about those. If you like this movie at all, get the DVD, if you have never seen this movie and like science fiction you will be pleasantly surprised. One of Cameron's best films still...

Review: This DVD is a must have if you're just starting out or already have a substantial collection. The special features alone are incredible! Add to that two versions of an outstanding movie on a two disc set and you get one of the most entertaining DVD's ever. You gotta get this one!

Review: If you like the Abyss and own a DVD player because of all the possible "extra" stuff you can get then this is your DVD! The options are great, both cuts of the movie are absolutely wonderful. Check it out, you won't be sorry.

Summary: A great movie, but the Director's Cut is too preachy
Review: Every fan of James Cameron should have a copy of The Abyss intheir collection. However, I found the added scenes in the Director'sCut added a political message (a la The Day the Earth Stood Still) that was totally unnecessary and anachronistic considering our post-Cold War age. I also found the tsunami special effect and the TV reporter's acting a little too cheesy for my taste. The way the alien threat was underplayed in the theatrical version added to the presentation. The best part about the DVD is that you have both the standard and DC versions, so you can watch both and decide for yourself.

Summary: Surfs Up
Review: The directors cut makes this movie more preachy, in a good way though. We see the NTI's upset that we are always at war with one another. So they decide to wipe us out in a natural disaster. But, they have a change of heart because of Bud. Definitly a more complete film with great added visual effects. Worth buying in collectors edition DVD media.
