Summary: Good Movie, Okay DVD
Review: The main reason I decided to purchase this movie on DVD was to get the higher quality due to the fact that I have watched my VHS copy way too many times. I was so happy to get the DVD that I didn't notice the lack of extra features. I was happy that they did have the scene selection which some DVD's lack. I did give it a 4 because it is an awsome movie. But overall, if you just HAVE to have this movie you might want to buy the VHS because you aren't getting much with the DVD version and you'll save a few bucks. I really did expect more with a person like Luc Benson behind the film.

Summary: Great Sci-Fi
Review: I thought it was fantastically non-hollywood, ahead of it's time good sci-fi and I hate Willis. The plot was relatively gripping, loved the gigantic things that scared 90210's Luc Perry so badly, the chick was hotter than hot, the humor was intact, I even loved Gary Oldman's slumming so badly. It was great and I hope the writer(?) and Besson team up again. Good throughout predictable ending too,(which is the hardest). A major effort of "Brazil" like proportions and beyond.

Summary: Very over rated movie
Review: I write this review in the hopes that the majority of the public does not get deceived by over rated reviews floating around the web. I have tried to keep an open mind but the movie is nothing more than a comic book brought to the big screen or DVD as the case may be. The movie is most similar to Star Wars but is not anywhere as high quality. The Fifth Element has virtually no plot or story line and is really as series of unrelated visual elements. The quality of the sound track is great and perhaps the visual quality of the movie itself is great--but beyond that, there is nothing... I purchased this DVD because Armageddon was fairly good with spectacular special effects and had Bruce Willis in it. I am surprised he consented to be in this movie. I rated The Fifth Element two (2) stars but it may really only be a one (1) star movie. [End of review]

Summary: Lots of fun; a wonderful B movie.
Review: I love B movies, and I'll forgive a lot if a film is fun. The Fifth Element is just that. It's the type of movie where you sit down with friends and belly-laugh for the heck of it.This is not exactly a sci-fi. It's got plenty of sci-fi elements, but the Fifth Element is really a goofy action comedy in space. The comedy doesn't pop out until about ten or fifteen minutes into the film, but there definitely comes a point where you realize the main plot has ceased to matter next to the dialogue and the action. And by that point that's okay, because the dialogue and action are entertaining enough on their own. The plot is just there to tie it all together. My only big grumble about the movie: There are a few points where it takes itself too seriously. The sci-fi just isn't good enough to stand on, so at these points you can go refill the popcorn. Fortunately the serious moments tend to be very brief and something always happens to restore the pace, so no harm is done. This is one of those movies I just had to pick up on DVD. Don't take it seriously and you'll probably enjoy it a lot.

Summary: It has EVERYTHING
Review: It has been a long time since I encounter something like this. This Movie has everything, and I mean everything for everyone. Beyond the great performances of the main actors, and the amazing direction by one of the most recognised directors, this movie combines, action, humour, special effects, beatiful women (Note that any women playing in this movie is a recognised photo-model). What most impressed me in this movie is the spectacular and unique acting of Gary Oldman. Generally I recommend this movie to every fan of movies which do not concentrate on one issue (action, humour or sentiment or special effects) but try to combine the best of those issues in a really amazing result

Summary: Everybody needs Love!!
Review: I admit I may not know what love is, but this movie showed me the key to all livin' "LOVE!" Everybody needs some love. That certainly showed that even a supreme being needs love as well. I am a huge fan of Sci-fi/Action movies but this film towards the ending brought out the soft side in me!! This movie has great special effects,good actors,great costumes(well you get the picture) So if you haven't watched this movie get yourself to the nearest movie rental place and rent it. I guaruntee you'll just love it!!!

Summary: The Closest thing to live Japanese Animation
Review: This is the closest thing to Japanese Animation. Because... 1. There is a nymphish main female who is scantily clad. 2. The city set is like any Anime that features a Neo-Tokyo future city setting 3. The bad guy does his "life philosophy" monologue. 4. Love wins over all ( a common theme in Jap-Anime) 5. The plot is fantastical (nothing conventional like blowing up an asteroid) and has major plot holes. The story begins in the early 1900's, with an archeologist finding a site that houses the 5th element. The aliens come down, take it and warns the guardian there (a priest) that great evil will appear in 300 years and that they will be back then to fight it with the Fifth Element. 300 years later, the Fifth Element is on it's way back, and the Humans encounter this big ball of fire (that represents pure evil). There are also 4 stones that represent the 4 other elements and are needed to "charge-up" the 5th element and they have gone missing. Bruce Willis plays a hovercab driver in Brooklyn and low and behold, the fifth element fall through the roof of his cab, after escaping from police. It happens that the fifth element is a strikingly beautiful woman, played by Milla Jovovich. She does a fabulous job as the "most perfect person in the universe". She has this vulnerability, but can also stir up a big can of whoop-@ss! Bruce plays the straight man, the strong, silent type that also throws in a joke or two. Chris Tucker plays the comic relief that is funny at times, annoying otherwise. The star of the movie is Luc Besson. He creates this fascinating world, that is not all drab and monolithic like all those Blade Runner clones, but more colorful and fantastical (like a Japanese Anime). The costumes, hair and sets are a visual treat and this movie feel more distinctly European than it does American. Kudos to Jean-Paul Gauthier for creating some of the most wildly imaginative costumes in movie history. The story is pretty good as well. However, there are a lot of plot holes and at times one is shaking his head. Like, why doesn't the military take control of things? Why are they relying on Willis? A lot of headaches could have been resolved by sending 10000 troops to secure the stones. However, the imagination by Besson (who thought up the screenplay as a teen) is earnest and tries hard not to be derivative (and it's not). The soundtrack and picture quality are first rate. No complaints. On the other hand, there are almost no extras. Bummer. However, if the movie is the only thing that interests you, then the Fifth Element is an action/Sci-fi that takes a different path from the derivative action movies that came out in 1998 (like Armaggeddon). Summary: DTS or not DTS? That is the question
Review: Your information states: "The Dolby® Digital 5.1 discrete soundtrack is quite a spatial experience though the fidelity is rather irritating at moments. Nonetheless, this is a terrific soundfield design that fully utilizes the holosonic capabilities of the 5.1-channel format. Sound effects are directionalized with an aggressive split surround presence. Bass extension is deep and powerful below 25Hz with effective .1 low frequency effects. The music score sounds harmonically rich, especially in the scene with the opera singing alien Diva Plavalaguna. Dialogue generally sounds natural with excellent spatial integration". Where does this mention DTS? DTS is a different 5.1 surround. Different than Dolby Digital. Did you not know that? Let the buyer beware! I have checked for this movie in DTS on the DTS site, but I have only heard that it is not available in DTS. Then why does amazon.com show it comes in DTS stereo. WHat is DTS stereo? Please be more careful, and specific when explaining sound formats. Many people do but DVD's based on DTS.

Summary: The Fifth Element
Review: I enjoyed watching the Fifth Element. It is a visually-pleasing, fun, insightful, and well-acted film. There is a scene where the villian, Gary Oldman, explains that society, in a sense, thrives on destruction: he then proceeds to push a glass cup off his desk and it shatters. Little mechanical robots appear and clean up the glassy mess. Oldman says that these robots were specifically made by engineers to clean up accidents such as the one which just occurred. The engineers get paid for inventing such mechanisms and they in turn can feed their children and then their children will grow up to be future technicians and engineers to make robots to perform certain tasks. Therefore without destruction, society would be at a loss, in a certain sense. These are just one of a few insights included in the movie. The setting in which the film takes place is in the 23rd century I think. The distant future. New York is overpopulated with flying cars, floating sushi bars, and tiny, cubicle-like apartments where everything is within arms reach.

Summary: a visual and audio feast
Review: The Fifth Element is by far one of the best films I have seen ever - well produced and well cast. The sets and costumes create a fantastic atmosphere; the attention to detail is superb, down to the floating Thai restaurant, the cleaning robots in Oldman's office and the morphing mutants. It's biggest asset is a decent story that is well told by Besson. Willis (and I am not a fan) plays his part well, as does Milla Jovovich. But Gary Oldman steals the show in my opinion as the baddy with his muscle-bound henchmen. The women acting as Diva Plavalaguna has the most superb soprano voice - and the DVD does it justice. Fans of Lucia di Lammermoor might like to buy this movie just for her rendition. All in all a fun, and very well made film.
