Summary: D.W. Griffith Does "Blade Runner"
Review: Like a bubblegum William Blake, Luc Besson presents his own pop messianic epic, with then-Emanation Milla Jovovich as the incarnation of the red-haired punk-princesses from outer space that apparently haunted the director's childhood imagination as much as my own. This is the kind of smirky, personal sci-fi film that makes Lucas seem hopelessly clunky; Besson stamps his vision all over the film, trying to push his maniacal showmanship to the top and beyond. "The Fifth Element" drops the sanitized hi-tech vision typical of futuristic films and skips the murky dystopias of the dissenting subgenres-- instead, it gives us what we've all really wanted: a future that's way sexier and more playful than the present we inhabit. Bruce Willis perfects his laconic manner into something like Roger Moore's self-delighted delivery, and Chris Tucker seems to act within the film as a representative of Besson-as-director: his performance fires off words and gestures with the light-speed rush of Besson's cuts. Ian Holm putters around hilariously; Oldman ingests scenery with gusto. Jean-Paul Gaultier's costumes, along with strategically placed fashion-model cameos, add to the pop-fantasy appeal of this eye-candy extravaganza.

Review: Luc Besson is supposed to have nursed this story for about 10 years, but it's impossible to tell what that story is. The basics are simple enough - an evil planetary thing is heading for earth and none of man's technology can stop it. A benign race of superbeings has devised a way to unleash enough power to stop the evil planetary thing (which occasionally makes a gooey substance drip from men's foreheads), involving stones arranged in a secret chamber in an egyptian pyramid. By the 24th century, when the planetary thing approaches earth, mankind is spread over hundreds of planets, and Earth looks like some whacked out version of 1940 and next century, complete with flying studebakers and gun toting aliens. Humans, both good and evil, have prepared for the coming of the evil planet, the latter personified by Zorg - Gary Oldman, who wouldn't play a good guy for a million bucks. The benign aliens, returning to earth, are ambushed by Zorg's mercenaries, and the job of finding the stones and saving Earth falls to Bruce Willis. As an ex-fighter pilot who now drives (flies) cabs in NY, Willis falls for one of the good aliens (Milla Jovavich).Until then, it's pretty good - but that doesn't go that far. Once Ian Holm, as a monk preparing the way Jovavich, explains the basics of the evil planetary thing, there's not much left but a mess of mis-timed action sequences and an over-the-top Chris Tucker who seems to attract most of the firepower everytime he opens his mouth. The action settles on a space-cruise ship on which a pan-galactic Diva (one of a secret society who, like the monk, have prepared to battle the world-killing planet) has hidden the sacred stones. Though anybody can get a spaceship, simply getting onto the one last flight to the cruise ship becomes so important, it requires massive shootouts between police, mercenary aliens and Bruce Willis. The Aliens miss the flight but follow Bruce Willis to the cruise ship, and there's more shooting. Zorg shows up, and there's even more shooting. Why Zorg fights for the evil planetary thing, and seems passionate enough to blow-up underlings who fail him is never really clear. He's a profit-weasel, and the evil planetary thing will probably wipe out a lot of potential customers. The most we ever hear of him is that he thinks he can get what he wants at the push of a button (I've heard the same of some special effects engineers - the effects here won't win any awards), and it takes Ian Holm to remind him that good doesn't obey a remote control (more Hollywood moralizing). There isn't so much a plot, but purposeless violence and plot turns (not quite twists) that mean nothing. Near the climax, Jovavich scans a computer for the evil of human history and viewing the horrors of the wars both global and local, she cries. Had the creators of this film displayed a similar aversion for chaotic violence, the 5th element would have been a more coherent film.

Summary: Something Orignal..thank goodness
Review: All I can say is this was a breath of frech air in the Sci-fi films of recent. The story was bold and orignal. Ok "Star Wars" and "Star Trek" are great, but this is up there along side. A great thill ride of action and some comedy too. The art direction was top knoch. Great fun! I only hope there will be a special edition DVD soon.
PS: I just got the Euro version, and its full of extras. The down side is its in italian.(not big deal 4 me)

Summary: Funny and thrilling
Review: For the first little bit it is kinda hard to follow. For the rest of the movie it is thrilling and funny. The special affects are really cool too. I think that most people would like but some may not. It is more of a sci-fi then a thriller and there is some comedy with Bruce Willis and some of the other actors. I you like movies or shows like Star Treck or Men in Black I say you would like this.

Summary: Great Cast, Great Movie
Review: I loved this movie. It in the theatre, caught it on cable and bought in on video. I have just gotten a DVD player and this was one of the first 4 movies that I bought (the others: "Jaws", "Das Boot: Director's Cut" and "Monty Python and the Holy Grail"...see? I've covered all the bases!) "The Fifth Element" is a blast. Wonderfully done with all the principals (Willis, Oldman, Holm, Jovovich and esp. Tucker) in great form. Tucker was the stand out for me, stealing the show as he did in "Friday". No goodies on this DVD except standard or widescreen, no "making of", etc. Just the film.

Review: OK, ill admitt, the story to this movie isn't half bad. But, the movie falls a long way down with a total lack of character development, terrible acting, and the kind of stupid humor that makes me want to take a hamer to this disc and turn it into dust. If you care at all about characters and a message in a movie, don't touch this one with a ten foot poll. If all you care about is action scenes, and people making dumb jokes, you might like it.

Review: well i must say this movie really impressed me with its bold yet credible "calculated version" of what the 23rd century might be like..i'm not a big fan of sci-fi but i must say this movie had me hooked.

Summary: All-around good movie
Review: This is one of Bruce Willis' better perfomances. Gary Oldman and Mila Jovovich do great too. I can't believe ex-wrestler "Zeus" is Federation President. The soundtrack is fantastic, very upbeat and different. Good humorous sci-fi story, with a little bit of a sappy ending.

Summary: One of the BEST movies ever made.
Review: I am a person who likes well written scripts, good acting, and good direction. This movie is good because the plot is developed and the camera work and shots were visualy stunning. I own this movie and would encourage everyone to buy it as well. The only thing I didn't like was that usualy on DVD's they show how they did it. In this one they don't. Anyone who likes Bruse will fall in love with this movie....

Summary: Great! A science Fiction Classic.
Review: If you like Science Fiction, even a little, you will love this film! If you don't like Science Fiction, you will probably still enjoy it. This is a great film. In the "Fifth Element" Bruce Willis is a retired military hero who now works as a taxi cab driver. On the day he is to be fired, a beautiful alien drops into his cab - literally. He falls in love with her even while he is assigned to a mission to save the Earth from total destuction. Of course, she is the key to the saving the planet. Together Bruce (who knows his name in this movie, I think it was Colby?) and the Fifth Element go on a secret mission, broadcast to most of the Earth, to save the planet. With dog faced aliens, a great, GREAT! villian, an interesting music score including some classic and Egyptian music(?), the best possible special effects, Bruce Willis, and a great blend of comedy, adventure and romance - this film has it all. A great diversion, a great film!
