Summary: Fun!
Review: This is one of those rare movies that is fun to watch over and over.
It has all those elements that makes it work for the whole family. Love interest for the ladies. Actions for the guys, special effects for the kids, and a few humorous moments tossed in to round it out.
Now, don't get me wrong, there is some violence, and it may not be suitable for sensitive younger viewers, but it fits the overall feeling of the movie. Some of the violence is serious and gruesome, but most of it is high-tech slapstick.
Overall, I think you'll enjoy having this DVD in your collection!
It's fun to watch!

Summary: Oddly Appealing...
Review: While I'm am not usually into SciFi movies, The Fifth Element peeked my interest. Instead of being a movie with just robots and annoying computer jargon, it was actually a mix of New-Age*ism*, magic, science, romance, opera, and pop! Though that may sound confusing, the movie works with these elements very well.
Korben Dallas has been chosen to help an odd being known as the *fifth element* in order to save the world. In order to save the world, they must find 4 Elemental Stones, ride in spaceships, travel to other countries and planets, encounter DJs and odd aliens, aid a diva, and all within 48 hours!
Despite other comments, I think all of the actors did a great job. I really enjoyed Chris Tucker as Ruby Rod! I don't know why everyone else didn't. The plot is pretty solid and actually pretty comical. It actually helps the movie rather than slow it down, and all the actors contribute, especially Tucker. I didn't find the characters annoying.
The visuals are really top-notch. Smooth battle scenes and great lighting effects. Costumes are neat.
The music is blend of several genres, like Middle-Eastern instrumentals and pop styles. My favorite part was the Diva Dance where a song starts out as an opera then goes into a retro interpretation. It sounds strange, but depending on your tastes, this will definitely appeal. Great score!
The DVD really helps with the picture as images are crisp and colorful. The sound is awesome working the score in well with blasts, wind, machines, you name it! DVD quality is A+

I don't think the creators were trying to start another franchise with The Fifth Element, or there might have been another movie or a series (which would have been disappointing). I personally dislike Stars Wars and don't see what all of the fuss was/is about, even with the new movies coming and improved visuals. I wouldn't ever compare the two because they are very different. Fifth Element is stylish and well diverse in terms of genre. The movie works well in itself and requires no sequels or series.

Please give it a try ^_~!

Summary: Fantastic film
Review: Before you widescreen hounds peck me to death. let me explain. I bought this back in april of 98. DVD was non existent, and I had just jumped on the widescreen bandwagon, so I didn't deem the widescreen version worthy of extra cash. I'm sorry.

The movie is a great ride. Good action, interesting plot, and beautiful (and revealing, in this movie) Milla Jovovich. The only let downs were Chris Tucker, who pretty much ruined the movie, action scenes later on the casino ship, and Bruce Willis. While Bruce didn't ruin the movie, he looked very out of place. I'm not sure who, but someone else could have made the movie much better.

One thing that has always bothered me is the nudity. Not that I'm opposed to it, it just baffles me how this movie got a pg-13 rating. In several scenes, Milla takes off her shirt, sure it's usually in the background, but it is very easy to notice. Oh well, if Titanic can do it, so can this.

Summary: Style Over Substance
Review: This film really deserves 3 1/2 stars, but i decided to be generous and round up. If you are looking for a science fiction film with some substance, this film is not recommended. But if you are looking for a film that has a great and original style, both visually as well as musically, The Fifth Element is for you. It is the unique flavor of this film which makes me enjoy it so much. The costumes, the special effects, the music: they are all great. The characters are all great and wild too, even if a bit unrealistic. Willis is really the only uninteresting character, even though he is the protagonist. Zorg is a great villain.

If you want to see a fun, unique film, watch the Fifth Element.

Summary: Welcome to To the Sixth Element
Review: The fifth element is an action film, hosted by the great Bruce Willis. There are visuals in the Fifth Element that even to this day look terrific. Compare the Flying cars to the traffic in the backgrounds of Episode I. Lets first understand that The Fifth Element is a visual eye candy extravaganza. Not necessarily the best, but very imaginative. The story is also an invention that couldn't have easily been dreamed up. It's pretty original. Its almost hard to take a movie like The Fifth Element and break it down into pieces, but there are things that could have been better. The story was great, but there where "thickeners" that kept getting in the way. I loved the Chris Tucker character. He kept me laughing throughout the action. But, why put him in this movie at all? I see no reason whatsoever. When it comes down to it, there was no reason. He was comedic relief and thats all. I thought the movie stood still the moment he walked onto the scene. He was great, but out of place. Almost every scene could have been edited in some way. I love long movies, they can sometimes have a lot more to offer, but when a scene gets slow that means it needs to be trimmed to be more direct. Especially in an action film like this. Without these problems the movie would have been more enjoyable and less predictable, but its still a good movie worth seeing. Its lots of fun.

Summary: Lots of great special effects and cool scenes
Review: This is one of those dumb but very entertaining movies that is fun to watch a second and third time. Some of the special effects in this movie are simply outstanding and there is a bit of humor and lightness to it as well as some great fighting scenes. The villain is especially evil and the acting here is good. The two leads are fun and sexy to watch together and although the dialogue gets a bit forced or contrived at times it is easy to forget about it because the visual treats in the the movie more than make up for the weak points in the script.
Airport security scans a couple of weird looking tourists trying to get on a flight and underneath their humanoid appearances are a couple of really great dog people villains that steal the show in their attack on the good guys. In another scene they negotiate with the prime villain over an arms deal and some of the weapons and special effects here are really well done.
All in all, if you enjoy science fiction/adventure movies don't pass up on this one.

Summary: One Day Cult Classic
Review: Okay, so I know it bombed in the theaters, I was there but unlike many others who walked out disappointed, I was thrilled. Enough's been said here about the acting, visuals, soundtrack and so on, so I won't go back over that. Bottom line is this, it's a fun movie that isn't supposed to be serious, point in fact when they flip out Corbin's qualifications to save the world and the list is a (literally) a mile long of small print. You just got to giggle over that one. Forget science, forget serious, forget 'art' and go right to a good time. The visuals are lovely, from city scapes to costumes and hair, the soundtrack is great, the movie is just plain fun. I'd love to see this movie become a cult favorite with people dressing up as the odd characters and getting together.

One thing I will say, I didn't like the Chris Tucker character in the theater. It took watching the movie a second time to enjoy the irony of him and so really dig Ruby. In a modern world that is getting faster and who's attention span (already) is as short as a goldfish, Ruby is a natural enough projection. The whole movie is a more than slightly twisted look at who we are today, you just have to check the humdrum seriousness of being an adult at the door first and let it sweep you up.

Summary: Chris Tucker problems?
Review: I don't get the problem a lot of people on this site have had with Chris Tucker in this movie. Remember that t5E was made before Rush Hour, and Chris Tucker wasn't a well known actor at the time. Now this movie certainly isn't for everyone's taste, and the humor is off-color and decidedly lacking in much of a mainstream appeal, which hurt the box-office draw of the movie. It's gathered something of a cult-movie status however, and it's an energetic and visually engaging film. The plot is so-so, but it's carried out with great flare, and this movie has enough action that repeat viewing will reveal subtle points that you probably missed the first time (Think of how watching Guy Ritchie films, like Snatch, a second time are usually more rewarding than the first). Anyway, Ruby Rhod was part of the magic that made this film work - at least for me, and I just want to get an opinion out that balances the negatives from other reviewers. As the iconic DJ of space, Chris is hilarious, balancing Bruce Willis's fabulous but intentionally unfunny character. It just adds to the nice blend of scifi good vs. evil stuff with totally cool silliness that pervades the entire film. You either love it or hate it - but I don't see how you could like the movie at all without enjoying RRRUUBY RHOD! BzzzZzzzt!

Summary: Contains elements of religious surprise
Review: In the eternal battle of good vs evil, this movie contains one or more elements of modern religious surprise and has a kind of universal appeal to those interested in what is the one true religion, who is God/Goddess/Whatever, what is meant by a course where a class is titled "Comparative World Religions."

There is as much honesty in this poetic movie as there is in the Bible or the Koran or any of the major world religions.

That's my view.
