Summary: Of all the STAR TREK films, this one tops them all!!!
Review: It pretty much had all that was to be expected in a good movie. Drama, action scenes and comedic moments. It also gave us a more in-depth view of the Borg culture, which by far are the coolest villians around! All the special effects only helped in carrying the movie forward. And my "non-trek" friends had no problem following the story. Patrick Stewart gave an amazing performance as Capt. Picard as did Alfre Woodard. The producers of the STAR TREK series have out-done themselves with this one.

Summary: Best of the "Next Generation" movies- you'll love it!
Review: Allong with Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home, this is the Star Trek film with the most "mass audience appeal." A thrilling action-adventure suspense ride, Patrick Stewart and Jonathan Frakes deliver a one-two punch with a great story and fantastic acting by this ensemble cast. In particular, Patrick Stewart is at his very best here. In a film filled with stunning and suspensefull action scenes and breathtaking visuals, Stewart's portrayal of Cpt. Picard shines above all. The best scene in the film is not an action or f/x sequence, but one played between Stewart and Alfre Woodward near the conclusion. It's worth the price of the whole movie. Jonathan Frakes does a fantastic job creating suspense, action, humor, and fun in just the right balance. There is a storyline being played out on two fronts, and director Frakes does a great job moving between the two and keeping the viewer interested in both. Overall, if you were to see one science fiction movie on video, this is the one to get.

Summary: Hating Trek, I can't believe I like this film it was good!
Review: Having a continuous hatred for Star Trek all these years, a fellow associate whom I work with gave me his DVD of this film. After the first 5 minutes it had my attention and then came the battle scene----Thank god for BOSE Speakers!!!! WOW was my worst comment. Just when it seemed as if the film was about to Trek-bore me to death, it picked itself right up. That is what made an inpression on me. It amazes me as in to how many people either hate it badly or love it as a masterpiece there is no middle ground. I am at the top of that ladder. This film in a day where good plots are hard to come by is a great shot to the system and I'd highly reccommend it to anyone. I never thought Patrick Stewart could act so damn good--another surprise for me which I enjoyed. Overall those who blast this film for being so god awful, never saw this film or are too stuck up to pull their noses out of Shakespeare only films. Well I loved this film (I still can't belive I'm writing this) and that to me is all that matters.

Summary: Great Flick! Use DVD to its fullest include Standard Format
Review: I am definitely a trekker! I love this flick. This movie rivels the best TNG episodes...the borg episodes are definitely the best. Too bad the manufacturer didn't include standard formatting as an option on the CD. I know you only see a limited view of the film makers intended view but it is a pain to watch letterbox format on a 27" television!

Summary: The best movie I have ever seen.
Review: I have seen all of the other Star Trek movies. And this was simply the best.

Summary: FORGET THE RHUMOURS
Review: Dear Colleagues, Rhumours you may have heard about "First Contact" subjugating the STAR TREK time line are false. There is nothing in this film that alters events previously explored throughout STAR TREK. Dr.Chochran's age and presentation are oft cited as a bastardization of the original story. The "Bastardization" theory is flawed: recall that his "companion" had omnipotentence, and could mold her reality at will. Therefore, ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE. So then don't let that distract you. FIRST CONTACT is dark, funny, Counselor Troi does her "slut" routine again, they play "Magic Carpet Ride", they make a Bjorn Borg joke, the Queen can change heads, the Captain calls Worf "coward", the shit hits the fan,... StarlaParis thinks this the best STAR TREK film in history with #4 a close 2nd. Just check it out from the library and don't return it. Thats what I do.

Summary: Not really STAR TREK, but an action blockbuster
Review: I admit I can't understand what so many TREK fans see in this film. It doesn't feel like STAR TREK at all--more like the typical forgettable action-adventure flick. Great special effects, but as with Jurassic Park, they don't make a good movie in and of themselves (déjà vu!). It efinately doesn't stand up to repeated viewings like its immediate predecessor Generations. I do like the continuity with the original series episode "Metamorphosis" in the character of Zephram Cochran, but other than that this movie seems to me to be an attempt to make a box-office blockbuster (i.e., use of the Borg once again, lots of action scenes, dark lighting, etc.) instead of a STAR TREK feature. Little substance, lots of standard action-movie clichés and tricks. I also don't think the way the Borg were portrayed in the story fits in too well with the way they were portrayed during the TV series. The story's not as flawed as some of the other ST flicks (The Final Frontier and Insurrection), but it still retreads over old, well-worn ground with the time-travel device (used over and over again throughout STAR TREK), the saving-Earth and/or the galaxy syndrome (Star Treks I, IV, and VI), the shallow villain syndrome (especially Star Treks III, V, and IX [Insurrection]), etc. Everything about the film, including the new ship, conveys a dark, menacing impression despite the fact that at this point the war with the Dominion had yet to begin. As with nearly all standard action flix, after seeing this two or three times it becomes almost painful to watch all the way through.
