Summary: Failed attempt at something original for a change...
Review: Well, a round of applause here for a good try on FOX's part to bring an somewhat original animation to the screen, unlike Disney who uses the same old story again and again and again. Maybe that's why Titan A.E. failed at the box office, because the story isn't wide known among the youngs, therefore they didn't take their parents to see it. Too bad, because I thought that in the animation aspect Titan A.E. was very successful actually, lots of eye candies, great looking visuals, what lacking is the plot itself, quite a few holes and many times unbeliable, even for a sci-fi movie. There isn't really much more to be said about Titan A.E., but I hope that FOX and other big name studios will participate in the animation genre (maybe they can bring more Japanese anime on to the US screens,) I for one is a little bored with Disney's effort and formula.

Summary: "Who's your Daddy! "
Review: I went to see "Star Wars: The Phantom Menace" the second day it came out,(and boy was I dissapointed) during the previews I saw a small teaser trailer for this film with Cale speaking while the Titan escapes the Earth's destruction. I expected that Titan A.E. would be an all-CG film ala "Antz" or "Toy Story" so I was curious. Later on I discovered that it would be a hand drawn animated film combined with CG animation and effects. I grew even more curious, but I was a serious anime fan, and after seeing great stuff like "Akira," "Bubblegum Crisis," "Tenchi Muyo," and "Ghost in the Shell" I was convinced that I would never see anything the least bit close of quality come out of the U.S., I was in for a huge surprise.

Titan A.E.(in which I went to see the first day of it's release) turned out to be an awesome experience that was just as exciting as any anime I've seen. First of all the animation was simply incredible, the characters were the normal, well-drawn Don Bluth character designs which were good, but the real star was the CG effects and animation that blended with the hand-drawn animation even BETTER than the anime,"Blue Submarine No. 6" did. Plus, it was nothing like anything I've seen out of an American animated movie. No comic sidekicks(which is symbolized in one early scene in a comically violent scene) intense kick-ass music that perfectly complements the tense action and DOESN'T degenerate into a dumb musical. And it contains a number of awesome, visually spectacular action scenes. From the fast- paced chase scene involving spherical hydrogen trees to the final chase at the Ice Rings of Tegrin(Cale's chase with the Wake Angels was an awe-inspiring moment), Titan A.E. is a far cry from anything that Disney has put out. But cynical and angry critics and moviegoers buried Titan A.E. and just saw it as a "cartoon." Which is a real tragedy, cause Titan A.E. deserves a lot more recognition than it's getting.

Overall, I really think people should appreciate this film for what it's trying to be, a mature animated film that is really targeting teenagers and tries to avoid the "Disney" syndrome. Titan A.E. isn't really a movie for children, it can be violent and has content that reaches the PG-13 rating.(which I find even more refreshing) But overall, I can't wait for this wonderful movie to come out on DVD, and I hope that Fox puts plenty of effort into it and provides it with lots of extras. If you just leave your cynicism at the door you will discover an awesome film. Titan A.E. is one of the best (and underated) films of the year, that's even better than Disney's "Dinosaur". American Animation would take a turn for the better if there were more films such as this( and "The Iron Giant" which suffered the same fate.) But unfortunately after the results of the last two movies, that doesn't seem very likely...

Summary: Not horrible.
Review: This was not the best animated SF ever. Nor was it the worst. In all honesty, this movie had both good and bad points. First of all the good points.

John Leguizamo and his kooky scientist character was a breath of fresh air. They were amusing and the combo of art and voice was perfect for that character. The voices of the remaining characters were adequate, neither exceedingly poor nor outstandingly wonderful.

The music for this movie was decent although a little heavy on contempory so it can never be considered a "classic". It is far too rooted in the times.

There was an abundance of eye candy. The "Drej", their ships, the "Wake Angels" and several explosions were all very well done. A visually stimulating movie.

Planet Bob. (If you've seen the movie, you know what I mean.)

Now the bad.

Physics went out the window several times (the worst of which was when a character says while in space, "from now on we're in 'silent mode'".) No air means no sound, people!

Some things are never explained. I cannot give anything away but I will say that an escape is made with no explanation as to how it was performed. We watch the entire thing but it makes no sense.

Finally, the number of things taken from other SF was staggering. While in lesser amounts this would have been fine, the sheer overwhelming quantity was distracting.

All in all, I did enjoy the movie but I do recommend watching it with lowered expectations.

Summary: "Stories For Boys"
Review: In the minds of young boys (I'd say between 7 and 14), this movie ranks right up there with Star Wars. It's futuristic, features "one of their own", has great special effects. In short, it is a must-buy for this age group. However, (again, like Star Wars), the script is nothing to write home about. Parents will wonder why their sons love it so much. But love it, they do.

Summary: Ho hum....
Review: This movie had the potential to be stellar. It had a definitely workable storyline, tremendous animation capabilities, and a decent cast. Unfortunately, the storyline fell short. Don Bluth is, if you have ever watched his movies, known for cutesy, childish characters. In a movie where he is obviously trying to appeal to an older audience, Bluth has problems letting go of the childishness, and sappy happiness. In the right hands, Titan AE would've blown everyone away. It was a good concept, and, overall, entertaining, but inevitably annoying. Sorry.

Summary: Animation is for Movies that are too Fantastic for live acti
Review: I don't care what the critics say this was a great film. It had me and my kids on the edge of our seats. The animation was excellent even thou the characters were less drawn than the background, but that is usual since they are the hardest to draw. The story was good. The plot was fair but predictable with some twists in it. Action was great. Very good space scenes.

Review: This is a stunning animated film. It's intelligent, exciting, well-voiced and visually amazing. If you didn't catch it on the big screen there will be no other way you'll want to see it except on dvd.

Summary: Parents may think it's too violent
Review: This is a good movie period, but, no lightsabers! Oh well. This movie is half cpu generated and half traditional animation. There is a great storyline which I'll explain. The Drej, a race of aliens who are afriad of what the humans may become, destroy earth. A young boy named Kale Tuker was tramutised by this but played it off pretty good 15 years later with the trademark mercenary style, "I don't care" attitude. Anyway, he meets a man while being attacked by some kind of aliens, who asks him to join a resistance group against the Drej. I'll leave it there so you can find out more for yourself. This is a great story of love, war, betrayal, revenge, and discovery. I'll add another thing: There are a lot of fire fights, blood, and death, which is why parents should use caution before renting or buying this for their kids. I'd reccomend this to any fan of sci-fi flicks. Though it had a seemingly okay point to end at at the end, I hope there's a sequel...

Summary: Enjoyable, but could be better
Review: I agree that this film did not live up to the hype surrounding it. The hand-drawn animation with the interlaced CGI and other effects produced a visually interesting film. There were several gorgeous animation scenes (wake angels^^, ice asteroid mirror-maze), but the plot wasn't up to par. And how many sci-fi film references were there in that?;) I can understand maybe wanting to pay homage to a film - but not that many and not that obviously;) Haven grown up on sci-fi resulted in making the already easy-to-follow story seem even more predictable.

However, I'm glad that some one in America has created a animated feature directed toward older audiences. Perhaps the movie industry will begin to realize that animation can accomplish more than just being for kids...

Perhaps if I hadn't already watched so many sci-fi films and visually stunning anime, the film would've seemed more fresh and interesting to me. Unlike other reviewers, I don't think this is at all the best animation can be. The hand-drawn animation could've been better and the characters could have had more development. But it is an enjoyable film and a step in the right direction:o)
