Rating: Summary: This Video is really...... Review: dark and strange. The moment you enter this "world" you are trying to figure out if this compares to "Blade Runner." I really didn't care. The most striking thing about this film is the premise. The SHOCKER came near the end of the adventure. This film will become a cult classic but don't let it "stop your clock."
Rating: Summary: Thought Provoking, Keeps you looking to the heavens! Review: Not for the faint of heart (or for those who suffer from extreme paranoia). Keeps you guessing until the end, and even when the end comes, takes a while to let is all sink in. Many probably end up saying: Huh? (myself not included, of course) Well worth it if you are in a dark mood. I just have one thing to say: I was damn thankful the next morning when I saw the sun.
Rating: Summary: From confusing to enthralling Review: I have to admit that at the beginning, okay, for the first half hour, I was thoroughly confused by this film. It makes no introduction, instead just walking directly into the plot and storyline. Once I got the hang of it, and once there was enough presented to keep my interest, I was hooked. The only way I can describe this is that it had the same feel as Seven, the type of direction in Gattaca, but a look, feel and movement of characters and storyline far above anything else I've seen in quite a while. If you liked The Game, and you like sci-fi in general, this movie is for you.
Rating: Summary: Excelent!!!! Review: Fascinating movie with the Blade Runner type darkness and horror that makes it so captivating. Imagine waking up in a bath tub without knowing who you are but with several clues than seem to lead... Somewhere add to this strangers so malevolent that it is palpable from the other side of the screen following and chaseing without giving any true clue to their purpose, There you have Dark City, in a nut shell. Enjoy at will!
Rating: Summary: One of the best Review: On many levels, a stunning movie, which deserves to be mentioned in the same breath as the best science fiction ever. It keeps you guessing and wondering the entire time and you hope for a payoff in the end, and it delivers in ways few films do. I have to say I loved the direction and the movement of the film. Each scene seemed like a section of this gigantic quilt film noir. Each moment built on the next. Rufus Sewell is very good as the main character John Murdoch. William Hurt is fine as the inspector and Jennifer Connelly I thought gave her best performance ever. As the film opens, the narration is done by Keifer Sutherland as he sets up the story. I have to admit that at first, I didn't like the way he did his character, until I saw the movie again. More accurately, I should say, I didnt feel comfortable with his performance because it was so different from any roles he has had to this point. After another viewing, I came to enjoy his performance. This movie is an intelligent movie and not for someone who likes to be barraged with pure action. Anyone who says Armageddon is a science fiction masterpiece may want to steer clear of Dark City. In intelligence, in quality, in pure storytelling radiance, Dark City is as far above Armageddon as Its a Wonderful Life is above Friday the 13th. Already a cult favorite, it will be so much more than that in the years to come. Count on it.
Rating: Summary: Surreal and spooky -- two thumbs up! Review: This movie draws you in and keeps you there. "The Strangers," Dark City's spooky keepers, are freakishly fascinating and add yet another dimension to a unique movie full of twists and turns. Incredible special effects and a city that's never the same just top off this great sci-fi feast.
Rating: Summary: ONE OF THE BEST MOVIES I'VE EVER SEEN Review: "Dark City" was absolutely incredible. It got away from the flashy and showy science fiction movies of today, and really got back to the classic science fiction tales of suspense and wonder. The plot was very involving fast-paced. Definitely one of the best stories I've seen in a long time. The special effects were great, especially the parts where the Strangers were manipulating the city. I held my breath during the climax, completely in awe. This is a definite must-see for everyone.
Rating: Summary: BRILLIANT! Review: WHAT A MOVIE WILL KEEP YOU MESMERIZED FROM BEGINNING TO END.(NOTE:NOT A MOVIE FOR EVERYONE-WEIRD AND BROODY).
Rating: Summary: The Best Sci-Fi Movie Ever Review: This movie I was impresed with right from the begining. just with all the city images andhow they changed the city every night was just fantasticly done.and the story keeped you going right in the first five minuets. Its a story of a man's suffered a memery loss and a demented geius helps him control his power. When his memory is lost he is framed for a murder.A sympathetic detective is after him and a group of ominous beings are after him. throghout the movie you have questions that you want to be ansered and they are ansered in time throgh the movie.Anyone who loves a good Sc-Fi and mystery with awesome speacial effects than see dark city. It is the best Sci-Fi movie I have ever seen.
Rating: Summary: great except for the obligatory hollywood climax Review: A visually stunning and deeply philosophical movie that keeps you guessing about the true nature of its own comic-book-style reality right up until the end. The characters and world are deeper and more subtle than they appear on the first viewing, so watch the movie more than once! Two faults: The opening "spoiler" narration, which was forced upon the screenwriters by their bosses who believed the audience too stupid to understand the first half of the movie without it, and the overdone climactic scene where the whole mood of the movie changes into an Arnold-Swarzenneger-style blow-things-up-for-no-reason type battle. This also seems grafted onto the rest of the movie artificially. Fortunately, the plot recovers from that stupid scene and returns to a fantastic and optimistic ending more in line with the theme and mood of the movie. NOTE: This is NOT a pessimistic, depressing movie as the theatrical trailer suggests! To the contrary, it is a very inspiring tale of the human spirit overcoming darkness. The script, woven artfully out of American idioms and cliches from many historical eras, is also wonderfully laced with understated humor. This movie won't appeal to everyone, but those who like it will LOVE it.
