Summary: signs is awful
Review: Awful! I was sooo disappointed. An alien in the pantry and then the hero saves everyone by beating up the alien with a baseball bat? The End. This movie sucked.

Summary: Excellent Movie - Terrible Film to DVD Transfer
Review: Really excellent movie. Good use of suspense and partial flashbacks to tell the story. Well directed.

The most disapointing thing about this DVD is the poor quality of the Film to DVD transfer that the studio did. The transfer technician was really asleep at the controls on this one. All the darker scenes (of which there are many - including the opening scenes) are transfered as blue and the colors are crushed in all scenes except the daytime scenes. The sound is acceptable but there is some noticable muddiness in the low end bass.

Excellent movie and badly let down by the studio in the quality of the video on the DVD.

Summary: Only good thing is Mel
Review: The plot is full of holes.

Save time; don't watch this. Rent "The Sixth Sense" instead!

Summary: Mr. Night does it again.
Review: A superb thriller, with some really tense scenes and a powerful message. For all the people who think this movie is slow, please do yourselves a favour and rent American Pie instead. I think Mr. Night is a gifted storyteller, and his major credit is that he has the ability to suspend disbelief during the duration of the movie. I love Mel Gibson's and funny Joaquin Phoenix's acting. What Sixth Sense did for ghosts/supernatural, Unbreakable for comic books, Signs does for crop signs/UFOs/ET life. I hope to see more work of him on other subjects!

Summary: Incredibly powerful message.
Review: I am amazed at how many people just do not get this film. This film is not Independence Day. This film is not about aliens. The aliens are simply a catalyst. This is about a family mourning the loss of someone they love. Reverend Graham's (Mel Gibson)wife died in what seemed to be a tragic senseless accident. His loss is so deep, that he gives up his practice and denounces God. His children are attempting to cope with their grief and their father's. Their uncle (Joaquin Phoenix), a washed up baseball player is staying with them in an effort to help the family. Suddenly, this major world event (the alien visitors) come crashing into their lives. How they cope with this horrifying experience is the story.

All too often, we question things in our lives. Why did I lose my job? Why did so-and-so leave me? Why do I have this illness? This story is about questioning what happens in our lives and how we deal with certain situations. When I first saw this movie and sat thru the ending, I cried. Not from what was happening on the screen, but from the powerful message. M. Night has always gone beyond the surface in his films. He has used ghosts, superheroes, and aliens to tell a much deeper story. It is the soul-searchers that get these messages.

Now, which type of person are you? The one who sees miracles or the one who sees luck.

Summary: Please...
Review: For the love of God, please tell me that a child who lacks the intelligence to spell even the simplest of words (experienced, genre, or suspense) didn't just attempt to champion the positive reviews for this almost entirely horrendous film experience. Well, I call to you, fellow film enthusiasts, and urge you NOT to see this. Not only is it lacking in nearly every category--if not for Joaquin Phoenix, the acting would be cringe-worthy as well--but, in my eyes, it's ruined the possibly lucrative career of a somewhat promising young director. Either way, if you choose to attempt to receive any satisfaction from this film, I would kindly suggest that you watch it as an example of what NOT to do when creating a science fiction film.

Summary: SIGNS-AN EXCELLENT PIECE
Review: Signs was a wonderful production and I can't get enough of it. Full of action, suspense, and yet also warmth of family as well. Mel Gibson is great!

Summary: The best and I've seen in the past 4 years
Review: I loved it. Plus the movie theater I went to is low priced. The reason why I'm going to buy it is because of the fact that it was so good. People in my town though thought it was a little too scary and when my friend saw it she wouldn't drive alone past corn fields. This was and is a great movie and for anybody who saw "The Ring" this is even better

Summary: A little disjointed but very appealing
Review: Although I had seen (and enjoyed) both Sixth Sense and Unbreakable, I did not have any preconceived notions about Signs. The film was a bit slow moving but in certain scenes this actually helped to build the suspense. The movie does jump around a bit and with a film this slow moving it was a little frustrating not to be able to completely follow the story line in real time. However, the acting was truly excellent and, strangely enough, I found myself thinking about this film for several days after viewing it. In fact, I do want to watch it again and that is the ultimate test for me. This is a film that is entertaining, thought provoking and watchable by the entire family. But, if you are looking to be spoon fed an action packed, swiftly moving film which neatly wraps the story line up with a bow, this movie is not for you.

Summary: M. Night Shyamalan is a true Genius.
Review: M. Night Shyamalan's "Signs" is proof that he is a true genius. Not only did he direct Signs, he produced and played a role in it. On the entertainment level, the plotting, acting, directing, etc. is superb. Shyamalan offers the viewer many "red herrings," but what is so amazing is the fact that most of them, when they are brought full circle, turn out to be important in a way the viewer did not expect. Amazing! This is a rare skill. The story both frightened me and brought me to tears with joy.

The story is about a hostile alien invasion, and that is not so unusual of itself, but what IS unusual is the depth of the philosophical and theological underpinnings. Shyamalan keeps the viewer thinking hard throughout the movie. What constitutes a miracle? Does a miracle necessarily involve the suspension of the laws of nature, or does a miracle involve the endless stream of "coincidences" that fill (and in fact constitute) our lives?

I am a writer, and I struggled with this fundamental question in my book The Wisdom of Shepherds, and I can tell you it is no easy question to resolve. All a person can do is believe that in the end, everything will have been for a purpose.

The movie brought me to tears when Mel Gibson said, "Swing Away." It all fell into place for me at that point. I got it. Signs is an excellent movie. Watch it at night with all the lights off in your house when you are by yourself, and you won't be able to go to sleep, but more importantly, follow the philosophical and theological train of thought behind the story.

Now get copy of "Signs and" watch it. Seriously.
