Summary: disturbing depiction of violence ruins this movie
Review: If you are thinking of going to this movie to escape for two hours from the world of sick and twisted violence, be aware that the creators of this film felt it necessary to slip in a couple of very disturbing minutes depicting a rape and two murders, including the murder of a child. Not what I was expecting to see in this movie. Kevin Spacey is great, and carries an otherwise mediocre movie. I can't recommend it as an escape, though.

Review: K-PAX was a much anticipated movie and there were even lots of Oscar talk about it. But it fell very short of the expectation. The story revolves around "Prot"(Kevin Spacey), who claims he is from a planet called K-PAX, and his psychiatrist, Dr Powell(Jeff Bridges) who does not believe him. Actually nobody believes he is from K-PAX until Prot shows lots of proof. Could Prot be an alien is the question in the movie. Kevin Spacey is pretty convincing as prot, and Jeff Bridges gives a very solid performance as the doctor, but the movie's too-slow tempo and lack of depth make it a waste of time. It could have been a pretty good movie, but K-PAX goes on and on trying to figure out about Prot. The movie does have a few good lessons: To cherish life and your family, but that is about it. After the movie, you will ask yourself, "Why? What was the point?"

Summary: Only one bad part
Review: The story here is about a man claiming to be from another world and having most people think he is not well. Kevin Spacey is an excellent actor, and he does well as the man who might or might not be from another planet. Jeff Bridges portrays one of Prot's doctors, who seems to be having problems of his own--that story is underdeveloped, but not many viewers will care. This film is good except for the ten minutes when Bridges' character decides to investigate a possible lead to Prot's "true identity".

Summary: Something Different!!!
Review: I loved this movie....I give it a strong 4 stars for the acting of Kevin Spacey and Jeff Bridges, for subject content and for writing. It is definitley not your run of the mill, forgetful, love story, war movie, car chase, slasher, art film or science fiction movie. It does not follow the typical movie plotlines we see too many of.It contained many thought provoking levels and made one think about the possibilities within the universe as well as within our own lives. K-PAX is "Contact" meets "The Cuckoo's Nest", with class and grace. I identified personally with many of the lines in the movie.... sat quietly and said "Wow" under my breath, numerous times. K-PAX displayed some profound moments/lines and a dynamite, unpredictable, twisty ending. Just when you thought you had it all figured out, there were more and more levels to confuse you. It was fun to contemplate the ending throughout the entire film......I liked it a lot, it made me think and I will remember it.

Summary: Fanciful
Review: This was an okay movie. Actually quite intriguing. A man appears at Grand Central, seemingly out of nowhere. A woman gets mugged. The hapless soul who tries to help her up is asked for identification. He has none, he claims to be from another planet. Not too questionable why he is whisked off to the psychiatric hospital. A relationship develops between the man (Spacey) and the psychiatrist (Bridges). Spacey indicates he traveled on a beam of light. This intrigues Bridges. And Bridges only has a limited time to find out about Spacey, as he has announced the day that he plans to leave. There is some minor suspense. Will the Bridges character find out enough about Spacey's character and in time? There is some humor. There are some good laughs. Primarily regarding the cast of characters inhabiting the psychiatric hospital. Excellent cast.

Review: After seeing the preview of this movie, I was not totally thrilled about seeing it, but it was the only thing out. Well, I could have spent my time more wisely by seeing "Corky Romano", which would have been a lot shorter. K-PAX was a 2 hour film that felt like 5; I do not usually care about how long a movie is, but I really felt the time slowly pass away in this film. Kevin Spacey, usually a great actor, overacted the entire film; but he had a few funny lines. Jeff Bridges was all right, but he was boring, which is the word that summarizes the whole movie. The other parts of the movie were filled with cheesy lines and bad acting. The only good actor in this movie was the dog. The only mysterious thing about this movie is how it got made. If you are looking for a good thriller or drama, see "Training Day", or "From Hell."

Summary: A fascinating enigma worthy of exploration
Review: Prot is the newest patient at the Psychiatric Institute of Manhattan, under the care of Dr. Mark Powell, he was described as the "most convincing delusional" they have ever encountered. Claiming to be a resident of the planet K-Pax, Prot is both eccentric and a mystery, seemingly without a history, Dr. Powell races against time to try to find out the truth before 7/27 5:51AM, the deadline when Prot is suppose to return to his world. Based from the novel by Gene Brewer, K-Pax is an interesting tale filled with memorable characters. Academy Award winner Kevin Spacey once again demonstrated his flexibility as an actor, his portrayal of Prot was convincing and a delight to watch. He views many things with a child-like curiosity, yet others seems vaguely familiar it's as if he has done them before. Jeff Bridges also gave a strong performance as Dr. Mark Powell, a workaholic who is very dedicated to his job, he had built a close relationship with Prot and felt that he was chosen to by Prot to help him. By letting Prot into his life, Dr. Powell began to look at his life differently, and his eyes were opened to possibilities that he never considered before. With a running time of about 84 minutes, this is a short movie, fortunately the pacing is pretty good without being bogged down by unnecessary scenes and subplots. Ultimately, whether Prot is from K-Pax or not is up to the individual to decide, yet you cannot deny the fact that he is able to detect light in the ultraviolet range, in addition to his ability to accurately describe the binary star system in the Lyra constellation, his high resistance to Thorazine medication, the three days in which his where about was unaccounted for, and the one missing person that he supposedly took with him back to K-Pax. The most puzzling thing to me is what Prot said towards the end, "...now you've found Robert Porter, take good care of him..." Make of it what you will, but I would definitely recommend to give this film a try, should be a treat for both the young and the old.

Summary: K-PAX...save your money for a 6 pak
Review: Although I left the theater still liking Kevin Spacey's work (it was an admirable performance by him). Jeff Bridges as Dr. Powell was luke warm and Mary McCormack as his wife was not even tepid. She might as well have not shown up. Save your money and wait for the video. The best parts of the movie are the trailers. You've seen the highlights.

Summary: Surprising but Satisfying
Review: I just watched a sneak preview of this movie, and frankly I have mixed feelings. Although this movie was not in the least what I expected it to be (as far as plot goes), it was still a wonderful film. Spacey delivers a sincere and unique performance as the "alien." Bridges was also great. There were moments when the movie had a "hokey" quality to it, but somehow it made it seem more real. This realness is exactly why I loved the movie. If you're looking for a subtle and intelligent film this is the one.

Summary: Do I hear Oscar Bell Ringing?
Review: A mysterious and extraordinary mental patient, named Prot, convinces both staff and fellow patients that he comes from a utopian planet called K-PAX. While his psychiatrist, Dr. Mark Powell, is baffled by this cheerfully confident man, Prot's description of life on a planet 7,000 light years away awakens a sense of possibility among the other patients. The doctor gradually begins to witness that this so-called alien is having a remarkable effect on the mental health of the hospital's other patients. When Prot says he's going back before the summer ends, all the patients in the ward vie to go with him. As the days before Prot's announced departure from Earth race by, Dr. Powell struggles with questions of science. Determined to prove the stranger is nothing more than a tragic victim of multiple personality disorder, the doctor soon finds himself doubting his own diagnosis.
