Summary: Shoot people who watch this filth
Review: Everybody says, " Wow, this is as cool as Star Trek". I'm here to remind you that this movie and Star Trek are the 2 most retarded things to ever come out of the entertainment industry. Bite me!

Summary: By Grabthar's hammer...what a great movie!
Review: If you were never a fan of a campy sci-fi series like Star Trek don't be afraid, I'm pretty sure that you can get just about as much enjoyment out of "Galaxy Quest" as those who were. It's about the cast of a defunct sci-fi series still clinging desperately to their only claim to fame. They've become punchlines to the media and each other, until one day a race of aliens who have seen the show and mistaken it for actual historical documents ask them for help dealing with Sarek, a malevolent and powerful alien who has nearly wiped out their race. If you take the historical document mix-up lightly (it's one of those things you just have to go with) you will surely like the movie. "Galaxy Quest" is hilarious, and the characters are each delightful and well acted. It spoofs series like Star Trek in all the right ways, without insulting or demeaning the people who enjoyed them or even those who worked on them. I love this movie, and the best part is that it does not cease to be funny or enjoyable after repeated viewings (trust me, I'd know). Highly reccomended!

Review: I love this movie! As a trekker, I thought it was a halarious ode to Star Trek. I especially love the whole idea of the character of Guy Fleegman as the designated "Red Shirt", destined to die before the first commercial. This movie is so witty and entertaining, a true delight!

Summary: A surprisingly sweet sci-fi sendup
Review: This flick accomplishes something pretty cool -- it gently pokes fun at various sci-fi cliches, yes, but it manages to also stay true to the kind of heroic and humane storylines that made shows like Star Trek such a cult favorite in the first place. It kind of has its cake and eats it, too -- which is no mean feat.

The pace is very nimble and the cast is great. (Seriously, why can't Alan Rickman be in *every* movie made? He's so darn watchable.)

"Galaxy Quest" is highly recommended to anyone looking for a laugh. You don't even need to be a sci-fi fan to get it.

Summary: Been here, done this
Review: I'm surprised at the level of critical acclaim this movie's gotten. There's nothing in GALAXY QUEST that's particularly new. Fans of STAR TREK have been making their own parodies of the show, the genre, and indeed themselves for decades now. Practically every parody-maker in the country -SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE chief among them--periodically revisits the show, and they all have come to the same conclusions about the STAR TREK as did GALAXY QUEST's writers. Sadly, there's nothing much else to this movie BUT parody. It's pretty much of a one-note chorus singing a tune we've already heard before. Honestly, I had a difficult time even finishing this movie, much less liking it.

If you want an interesting spin on STAR TREK parody, try FREE ENTERPRISE. It manages to poke fun at the "culture of STAR TREK" without taking the obvious route.

[DVD notes: There's a mildly interesting behind-the-scenes vignette and some deleted scenes, but they're not really enough to recommend the DVD over the cheaper VHS. Besides, it's hardly like you're going to wear out the tape replaying this thing.]

Summary: Not only Questerians need apply!
Review: Parody often fails - as a genre, there is often not really enough material to run the full length of a feature film.

So why does this one work so well? Possibly because, although it is not the worlds most serious film ever, it is far more than just a Star Trek parody. Whilst having a bit of a dig at the show and it's cliches, it does it with affection, and most importantly it does have a story to tell, albeit a rather unlikely one.

The cast are superb, led by the splendid Tim Allen, who sometimes actually looks and sounds so much like William Shatner you almost wish he could have a go at it for real. Alan Rickman is also fantastic as the Shakespeare character actor who finds himself unable to work since his appearance on Galaxy Quest - but not to worry, because soon they are running a starship for real!

Highlights are scenes where the ship leaves the space station, (you just wish Sulu had made that mistake!), the moment when they realise they're under attack ("There's a red thing moving toward the green thingy. I think we're the green thingy!") and also fan who helps them out by knowing the specifications of the Protector better than the actors. It's funny, it's stylish, it has great effects, and most of all, it has Sigourney Weaver running around in a shocking blonde wig.

The DVD extras are cool too - extra scenes, a featurette, and even the whole film dubbed into an alien language!

Summary: This movie is a fun ride
Review: I actually give this movie a 3.5. Galaxy Quest is about former actors who participate in a real life battle with alien foes. Ridiculous this concept may seem but it actually does well when it comes to entertaining you. The movie was funny, it had a well developed plot, the acting was good, and you feel for the characters as they tried to defeat the forces of evil. The main characters had depth to them and the characters depicting a show gave a nice twist to things. Kids will especially like this film as it is silly and has flashy special effects. But adults will find this movie unrealistic and that I think will turn them off from this movie a bit. (A boulder monster?) I think this movie defies every law of physics on the books. In conclusion I think a lot of people will enjoy this movie and I recommend it to kids and people who like to get lost in fantasies. Got any thing to say about what I said? Summary: A great sci-fi and comedy movie that is out of this galaxy!
Review: "Galaxy Quest" is a hilarious parody that will probably remind most people of Star Trek The Original Series. Tim Allen stars as the commander of a popular television sci-fi series that is a lot like Star Trek, and he has a crew to go along with the show that includes Sigourney Weaver. After seeing the popular show on television, some real aliens who have a real spaceship come to earth and want Tim Allen to be their new commander. But what the aliens don't understand is that the Commander and the rest of the people that star in the sci-fi series aren't real commanders, crew, etc., they're just actors. Now it's up to Tim Allen, Sigourney Weaver, and the rest of the crew from the sci-fi series to try their hands at being real space crew, managing a real spaceship, and even fighting real enemies.

"Galaxy Quest" is a great movie, it was even better than I was expecting it to be. A lot of parts of it are hilarious, it has great special effects, and believe it or not, parts of it are even a little bit suspenseful. All in all, it's a captivating and hilarious movie that I recommend anybody who likes science fiction or comedy movies to get.

Summary: When is the Sequel?
Review: I laughed out loud during the entire movie and have placed this movie on my list of all time favorites (others include Made in Heaven, My Blue Heaven, guess I got a haven thing going on here).

Anyway, having seen ST first run as well as every episode of TNG, DS9, Voyager, B-5, Lost in Space (first run), almost all space opera movies, and the one season of "It's about time" (Mel Brooks produced astronauts lost in stone age lasted one season about 1964). Plus, having read 1000's of SF books (and I'm a female) including Jerry Pournelle's ode to fandom "fallen angels" lets say that I was pretty well versed in the conventions of the genre.

I can truly say that Galaxy Quest was funny, exciting, a great parody and satire. The effects were top-notch as was the acting from normally "A" actors.

The end of the movie left me wanting to know what happens next. Dreamworks could begin its own franchise with careful scripting. Of course the problem with the next movie is that the tv actors now know how to operate the ship, so the set-up would have to take that into account.

Summary: FINAL FRONTIER FUN
Review: The film does a very good job entertaing the viewer. Tim Allen leads a fine cast of actors through a very clever movie that is full of wit and charm. The film makers very softly poke fun at sci-fi fans while at the same time making them seem heroic and passionate, not an easy feat, as far as I am concerned. The really stand out performances in the movie come from Sigourney Weaver and Alan Rickman. I think it is pretty cool that Weaver is able to laugh at herself and the genre that made her a star-she is a class act-The DVD has some of the best interactive menus I have seen. The behind the scenes feature is good too. Except that, as is the case with most behind the scenes footage, it is over before it begins. The extras also make good use of a plot device from the movie (this is all I will say without giving anything away). All in all not a bad space romp with top F/X from ILM and creature master Stan Winston to boot
