Rating: Summary: hold your sides laughter Review: I go to a movie to be entertained. This movie met the criteria A little on the squishy gross side, but enough one liners to keep me "holding my sides" The new stars (at least new to me) did an excellent job of facial funnies and double takes. No really heavy duty bad language, sex, or violence. Almost could be rated G in this society. Recommend to any who just like a good entertaining movie.
Rating: Summary: Different Spin on Evolution Review: Aliens are attacking...again. Evolution comes to us in the same vein as Men in Black and Ghostbusters and is almost as much fun. David Duchovny stars and who else but agent Mulder would you ask to defend the earth against space invaders? Duchovny's wry wit is well cast here as his persona can really only be described as Bill Murray on valium. He's a likeable [person], and someone we end up rooting for. The film follows a meteor as it crashes to earth and very rapidly single cell organisms begin to evolve into creatures you might expect to find wandering through Jurassic park. Unlike most summer movies where the plot is merely an excuse for explosions and high budget hijinks Evolution provides great detail and intelligence that most summer movies don't even bother with. The film also casts Orlando Jones who just about steals the scene from Duchovny everytime he appears. The movie makes a fair amount of ... jokes, but unlike most Hollywood comedies as of late is thankfully free of bodily fluids and other such comedic shock tatics. Evolution is what you call an intelligent popcorn movie. Intelligent enough to keep you engrossed in the film while your watching, and entertaining enough to make you remember the film long after you've left the theatre.
Rating: Summary: This has got to be the dumbest movie I've ever seen. Review: It really amazes me that funny movies turn out to be not very funny at all, and this movie is it. I can't tell you what was worse, seeing a star from X-Files trying to tell funny lines and sounding like a total idiot in the process. The racial jokes that border on bad taste, or seeing a lot of cheesy special effects that will make you wonder what they paid the computer animators for their work, not very much I'm afraid, and not very much is what this movie delivers.
Rating: Summary: Has Movie Making Taken a Step Back in Evolution? Review: I was excited to see this movie. The previews made it look like it could be a funny, Men in Black sort of thing. It wasn't. It was S T U P I D! The jokes were forced and misplaced. They were old and rehashed jokes from movies before. The plot was extremely predictable, and lame. The acting was rather poor, and the characters were poorly developed and not very likable.I will admit I laughed a couple of times. One being when Prof. Block was getting sucked up the anus of the large creature at the end. Sick, yes, but funny. But to wait through 2 hours of stupidity to get to that? NOT WORTH IT. Overall I was entertained by the visual effects, and the fun creatures they created. But, it just wasn't worth it. I'm glad it was a preview that I paid nothing for, or I would have been demanding my money back! I give this movie 2 stars, only because I stayed entertained. Mostly by the visuals. Even though the visual of the flying dinosaur looking thing with the girl in its claws was some of the hokiest special effects ever...
Rating: Summary: Evolution a funny movie Review: I saw evolution today, and really liked it alot. This movie kept me laughing throughout. The special effects were awesome. I especially liked that there were some new faces, not the same old people that are making movies all the time. I would recommend this movie to all my friends. David Ducovhny was really good as the straight man and part of a team of heroes. I would love to see it again.
Rating: Summary: Ghostbusters meets the X Files? Review: I saw the trailer for this movie and when I spotted Dan Aykroyd and David Duchovny I knew I wanted to see this movie. I'm looking forward to a lightweight, silly movie that pokes fun at aliens and the humans who encounter them. Perfect for a Friday night movie at the shore or whenever you want to relax and be entertained.
Rating: Summary: husky Review: I was able to catch a preview screening for this movie the other day, and I have hardly laughed so hard in all my life! The plot is as follows: A giant meteor crashes into a cave in Arizona and two sceintists (David Duchovney and Orlando Jones) are called in to have a look at it. They manage to find, that alien creatures are quickly evolving from the meteorite and spreading out of the cave. I don't want to say to much more as not to wreck the story, so I'll just give you the bottom line. This movie is truly funny, espicially Orlando Jones' and Seann Scott's performances. I gurantee, you'll bust a gut.
Rating: Summary: funny/ entertaining movie from Ivan Reitman Review: "Evolution" opens with a meteor headed on a path for Earth. Meanwhile, a would-be firefighter Wayne Green(Seann William Scott) is practicing a drill in the Arizona desert. The meteor hits by where he was practicing and so begins the story. Harry Block(Orlando Jones), a professor at a community college in Arizona gets the call, and he and Ira Kane(David Duchovny),a fellow professor, go to the site. From here the ooze that leaked out of the meteor multipies into creatures and the military gets involved. Ira and Harry are told that they are not to be included in future research so they take matters into their own hands. Enter Allison Reed(Julianne Moore), a clumsy military scientist who was assigned to research the aliens. Coming off the serious film "Hannibal", Moore is terrific. Wayne becomes involved and they fight together to protect the U.S. from the extraterrestrial beings. Evolution is a smart comedy which knows how to poke fun at the sci-fi genre. Being created from the comedy genius of Ivan Reitman, who could expect less. Besides being a first rate comedy, it also contains creative state of the art special effects. Special effects master Phil Thippet who brought us the dinosaurs in "Jurassic Park" brought his special touch into "Evolution" and it shows. The creatures in the film are extremely creative and look real as well as a little bit cartoony. The cartoony look of the aliens serves its own purpose and provides laughs as well as a few jumpy moments. David Duchovny and Orlando Jones have great chemistry which provides lots of laughs. Coming in a year where its all too rare to find a sophisticated comedy, "Evolution" is a breath of fresh air.
Rating: Summary: Better the 2nd time around Review: The first time I watched this movie, I though it was terrible. However, after watching a 2nd and 3rd time, I've learned to appreciate the humor. It's a fun and lighthearted movie. The special effects are quite good, the monsters are impressive and the acting is not bad. David Duchovny isn't a great commedian, and some of his lines are terrible, but overall, he does a good job. It's the kind of movie you put on when you are depressed and just want to drink a beer and be amused. In the same league as Caddyshack and Stripes. Great mindless fun.
Rating: Summary: It's a funny film , have it's good moments Review: The special effects are very good . And I love the idea of the use of certain unconventional element for ending an alien invasion, that's a huge laugh !!!!! ha ha ha ha ha
I think Ivan reitman have a very good sense of comedy.
