Rating: Summary: Hilarious and watchable Review: Galaxy QuestScore: 75/100 Galaxy Quest is a crowd-pleasing comedy which did surprisingly well with the critics and movie-goer's alike. It boasts a flashy cast and awesome set decoration, and is an original and watchable comedy that deserves the good-word it's got, and will continue to get. Eighteen years after their sci-fi adventure show "Galaxy Quest" was cancelled, actors Jason Nesmith (Tim Allen), Gwen DeMarco (Sigourney Weaver), Alexander Dane (Alan Rickman), Tommy Webber (Daryl Mitchell), and Fred Kwan (Tony Shalhoub) are making appearances at sci-fi conventions and store openings in costume and character. They're wallowing in despair and at each other's throats until aliens known as Thermians arrive and, having mistook the show for fact and consequently modeling their entire culture around it, take them into space to save them from the genocidal General Sarris and his armada. Galaxy Quest is quite simply one of the funniest movies of recent memory, and although it is pretty much a forgettable movie, it remains a spot-on Star Trek spoof which gets better with every minute. The Thermian's are a laugh, and all the actors are great; especially Sigourney Weaver as Gwen, she really needed that spice, that enchantment and that suit. The make-up for Alan Rickman is stunning and the CGI effects are sometimes stunning. Hilarious and continuously watchable, Galaxy Quest is a fun and adventurous movie which should not be missed by all audiences who just want to have a good time.
Rating: Summary: Funny as all ... Review: To me, this is one of the best comedies ever made, especially if you laugh at the fanaticism that Star Trek fans have. This is both and homage to Trekkies and a joke made at them. The cast is perfect and the acting is top notch by everyone, especially Sigourney Weaver as an aging sex bomb from the show with a hilarious job on the show. However, the best character is Guy, or Cremember 6, who died on show in Episode 82. He's damn funny when scary situations come up and some of his lines just make you laugh out loud. The story is quite good for this type of fish-out-of water film, and the cast plays it well. The CGI effects used in the film are quite good, but they never overshadow the actors or the story. Most of the dialogue is right on track and the supporting cast is very funny, especially the aliens who model themselves after the humans. They're incredibly funny to watch as they try to walk, talk, and act like humans. If you like comedy with a satirical background, this film is definitely for you. It's funny, smart, and quite touching at points, and you'll want to get every single one of your Trekkie friends to watch it with you so they can see how big of idiots they look at times.
Rating: Summary: A good film Review: I really enjoyed this film. Glad I bought the DVD. Good extras & was glad to get the film letterbox.
Rating: Summary: Where do you go from here? Review: I can't think of a movie that has actually rendered me completely insensible, let alone actually raving, but this one did and therefore is unique. I have posted some very cynical reviews about Star Trek movies, I am sure some rather pretentious stuff in fact, but this movie actually has made me simultaneously more sober about pronouncing such rubbish and actually more forgiving of ST itself. This movie is hilarious. A real cast finds itself picked up by real aliens who have enough intelligence to build a starship from mere suggestions from a TV signal, yet no sense at all with regard to politics or anything else. This is a good premise, but the thing that propels this movie into the stratosphere is the totally brilliant character studies afforded by the actors. Kirk is done so precisely, with such exact similitude, it's actually quite unnerving. And I'm not Bill Shatner - and Spock (the character isn't quite adjacent to spock to be truthful) is a magnificently cross and perpetually annoied prima donna who is close to a nervous breakdown as a way of life. The portrayal of the actual fans is hair raising. For those of you who are fans, or have seen them, this has to hurt a bit. BUT.... But... this pain is all worth it. In the end, without a shred of improbablility, the cast makes good and wins the day. I now can see why this was written up as a "funny valentine" - it is actually a great complement while being ridiculous and that is a rare treat. My favorite bit is where the engineer (the coolest of the lot) gets beamed up. For the first time - and looks at the others, who are in complete shock - "Woahh... what a ride... What's with them?" The other bit, which had me just about biting the pillow, was Tim Allen, playing the captain, with a hangover, sitting in the command chair, with a coke, and dark glasses, being threatened by a real bad alien and peaking up his eybrows and nodding... "Good!" looks at the Thermions... Looks at the monster.. "Thats good, y'know...
Rating: Summary: What the h*** do you do after this one? Where do you go? Review: The effect this movie had on me was as follows... No, can that. Backtrack. I used to like Star trek when I was a kid, got smart and cycnical with physics, had kids, got in love with Star Trek again, then got cynical for work related reasons. But this movie is way from the outside. After about two minutes I was laughing. Four minutes I had fallen over and was close to the carpet. Ten minutes in and it was even more dramatic, I was on the bed biting the pillow and within fifteen minutes had ripped off a cotton strip about 15cm long from the bed linen. This is not an experience of mere film, folks - this is the full experience of literature.... Just don't watch this in your bedroom, thats all I can say. This is about William Shatner. Tim Allen has got him PERFECTLY and he should get a d*** award for this alone. Shatner comes out really well, as so he should. This is actually a very complementary movie, and d***it, get out there and get it, fiends! I was no good for hard work at least a fortnight after this but no-one noticed. Now I wish I wasn't such a cynical old boot with the trek movies, but d*** it, I have a reputation to think about, I'm too old to be a trekkie now. Or am I? Where's that Klingon dictionary then?
Rating: Summary: Very good movie. Review: I put off watching this movie for awhile because I had gotten tired of Allen in his T.V. show (there was only so much of him screwing everything up and his wife having to fix it I could take) and I didn't know if I could get past that. I'm glad I got past it though because this is one of the funniest movies I have ever seen. Allen is perfect along with the rest of the cast especially Allen Rickman as has been actors of a forgotten sci-fi t.v. show now on the convention circuit. They get thrown a real curve ball when real aliens show up needing their help. This movie is fast and funny. Take my advice if you want to laugh and just have a great time in front of your tube, see it. You'll have fun with it.
Rating: Summary: Hilarious!! Review: Excellent movie in an excellent DVD package! The deleted scenes alone make the purchase well worth it! Some are hilarious, and should have made it into the final cut. The main menus are very well done also. Overall, a great DVD to own. This movie is probably in the top 10 funniest films of all time! "Never give up! Never surrender!"
Rating: Summary: Clever, Witty, Brilliant! Review: In short, this film has to be one of the most ingenius works of comedic brilliance I've ever seen on screen. I was thoroughly impressed by how utterly witty--and simply hilarious this movie is. I rented this movie, expecting it to be stupid, but was so impressed that I had to buy it on DVD to watch again and again and again. If you're like me and was totally unimpressed by the iditoic toilet and sex humor of the disappointing and over-hyped "Scary Movie," "GalaxyQuest" ought to cure you, even if it can't give you your money back for wasting it on "Scary Movie." And you don't have to like "Star Trek" to understand or appreciate this movie. "GalaxyQuest" is for anyone looking for a clever spoof, complete with state-of-the-art special effects. "GalaxyQuest" stars Tim Allen, Sigourney Weaver, Alan Rickman, Tony Shalhoub (of the sitcom "Wings"), Sam Rockwell ("The Green Mile," "Lawn Dogs"), and Daryl Mitchell (umm...the teacher in "10 Things I Hate About You") as a group of washed out actors from a 70's TV show called "GalaxyQuest". Each and every one is hilarious in their respective roles. I especially love how Sigourney Weaver's character is the big-chested, blonde bimbo, which is such a contrast to her Ripley character from the "Alien" movies. If you see no other spoof or comedy, you have to watch "GalaxyQuest." I promise you won't be disappointed.
Rating: Summary: One of the funniest movies I've ever seen Review: I love send-ups and parodies, and this movie pushed all the right buttons. As a fan of science fiction and fantasy (though not quite as ardent as some of those portrayed in the film, thank goodness), I know what it's like to obsess over completely pointless little details in fiction just for the fun of it. The premise of the movie is perfect, and hilarious in itself. The hero-worshipping aliens, with full confidence in the drunken Tim Allen, are a hoot, and the contemptuous, stereotypicallly evil villain is a great counterpoint and straight-man. The people playing the ex-cast of the TV show are all great too, especially Alan Rickman as the Shakespearean actor doomed to endlessly repeat a riduculous catch-phrase line to adoring fans. I also loved the former extra who spends the entire movie convinced he's about to die, and the technician-type bloke who falls for the female alien. Also funny was the way they all gradually crept into the roles they played in the series. Both the overall plot and the individual situations work well. I particularly enjoyed the bits where the crazed fans back on Earth helped out, and the very clever coda at the end. Funniest piece of dialogue (possibly): "You don't think Gilligan's Island is real, do you?" "Those poor people, stranded so far from home..." Watch this movie and brighten up your day - definitely one of the best comedies I've seen.
Rating: Summary: I didn't know she could be pretty Review: Sigorney Weaver sure had a makeover to make this flick. It's the only movie she's in when I can't take my eyes off her. They should make an R rated part II and have her fall out of her top!
