Summary: A review? "I can't - but I must"
Review: This movie is, in my humble opinion, right up there with "Plan 9 from Outer Space" for all time worst movies ever made. This one, like Plan 9, is so bad you have to laugh. You even have to wonder why at some points. When you stare blankly at your screen and wonder why, than the movie has done it's job. I could not ask for better cheese than this!

Summary: Robot Monster
Review: This was a very entertaing movie. Not only is it interesting it is defenitly one of the most fun movies to watch. I give the director all the credit he deserves. This just proves that anyone with a good imagination can make a movie work. There is no room for laughter in this movie. It is to be taken seriously. What would you do if you found out a talking gorilla took out the world and would give you messages that he would hunt you down and end you? Thats right you would be scared out of your mind and would hope it was all just a nightmare. Think about it for a minute.

Summary: Watch it in 3-D
Review: What can I say about this movie that hasn't already been said. I am lucky enough to have it in 3-d, which just adds to the delight of this movie. It's really a wonderful movie and if you look at the back of the gorilla suit you can see the zipper, now what does that tell you?? That it's one of the best. I love campy films especially campy horror films. But I did take one star off because it's way too easy to fall asleep during it. This is definately a movie you should watch with the lights off and a bowl of popcorn.

Summary: blessedly pure jaw-dropping high-energy 200-proof hokum
Review: Those who like contemporary sci-fi films (i.e., no energy, but state-of-the-art visual effects and a cast "that looks like America") won't like "Robot Monster" one bit--it is the worst of the "bad" sci-fi films from yesteryear. Taken as such, however, it is unbelievably entertaining, a must see. It combines the most incompetent production elements with consummate skill. Its core dramatic coup is classic: it draws the viewer in to fear and loathe Ro-Man, only to turn around and make him the central, tragic hero whom we identify and sympathize with. Poor Ro-Man is so stressed out, and all he wants is to do his job and eradicate humanity. What pressure this poor guy is under, with his jerk boss ("Guidance Ro-Man"), tight working deadline, and oh-so-understandable inner conflict. This latter theme escalates into a regular Hamlet trip for poor Ro-Man. The "diving helmet" headgear appears to be shoddily constructed from cardboard cutouts (the base) glued to a volley-ball with a circular facial cut-out done by hand using a pair of blunt kindergarten scissors, leaving ragged edges--with the whole thing spray-painted silver. ITS NOT EVEN A REAL DIVING HELMET FOR CRYING OUT GLABEN! The "bondage motif", of which our young heroine is the object, is riotously botched. Ro-Man (all worked up) is just about to tie her up when he gets a "bubble call" from his jerk boss, whereupon, after a brief indecisive anxiety attack, he has to leave her unsecured. Yet, at the end of his call, he goes back to tend to her and she is now mysteriously all tied up! What, did she do it herself? This movie abounds in so many similarly imponderable absurdities, it gleefully defies any and all incisive comment, and therein lies the joy and the challenge. Other commentaries notwithstanding, there is no comparison whatsoever between the dull, insipid, excruciating joylessness of "Plan 9 From Outer Space", and the unrelenting, rompin'-stompin', laugh-yourself-silly-in-disbelief, try to pick your jaw up off the floor, roller coaster ride of "Robot Monster". "How do you calculate that!?"

Summary: THE BILLION BUBBLE MACHINE
Review: I can't help but love a movie that runs a mere 62 mins and has an INTERMISSION in the middle (why? - I assume this must have played at Drive-In's in the 1950's and it was demanded by owners that there be a "snack break" in each film... so, get your snacks when you see it). ROBOT MONSTER has been called the best of the worst, far worse off than PLAN NINE (true), but nowhere near as painful as HEAVENS GATE or ISHTAR... neither of which had robots or monsters. The story is perhaps one of the most impenetrable, complex and oddest ever put on the screen. It's dark, lighthearted, extremely violent (the out right strangulation and murder of a little girl - in broad daylight no less), sexual (Alice is bound twice in this film... first by her family to stop her from talking with Ro-Man, and next by Ro-Man himself - after he rips her top off - and each time she is tied with such expert care it makes you wonder how these people send their nights. Alice gets mimed/forced into sex before marriage... and THEN gets married... and THEN goes off on a honeymoon to the local dirt road and does it again... plus we have the confusing sexual needs of our Ro-Man who is both beast and machine). This film tries so very, very hard. On a positive note... it does put Alice firmly as the smartest person in the whole world. Her Father may have invented a serum that saves them from Ro-Man's "C" Ray - but it's she who has the technical skill to hot wire a TV to talk with Ro-Man, and she who is willing to negotiate and scarifice herself for the good of the world. ROBOT MONSTER is not for everyone... hardcore collectors will want this, but the casual viewer will be put off. If you see it for rent, try it, but I do recommend it. It's pure entertainment and also worthy for study... it does spark some strange conversations.

Summary: Happy there are so many Phil Tucker fans...
Review: While looking for the infamous "Plan 9 from Outer Space, truly a sci-fi classic (almost to the cinematic quality of "Vampire Men from the Lost Planet") I ran across this wonderful masterpiece.

Mr. Tucker attempted suicide after it was released, and was unsuccessful. Somehow that doesn't surprise me.

Dinosaur scenes that have nothing to do with anything; the phenomenon to which all refer: the main villain being a guy in a gorilla suit and diving helmet surrounded by bubbles. Kind of a cross between King Kong and Lawrence Welk.

Tucker's genius will never be appreciated except perhaps by those of us capable of appreciating such art. My side still hurts from the first time I saw it.

Not to be missed!

Summary: An All-time Classic For B-movie Connoisseurs!
Review: One of the most unintentionally funny films ever made, Robot Monster is a Golden Turkey award winner and a serious rival for the coveted title of "Worst Movie Ever Made". The storyline: a invading robot from the planet "Ro-Man" eradicates all life on Earth except for a family of six people, whom the robot monster (conveniently named "Ro-Man" as well) must locate and destroy upon the orders of his leader, The Great Guidance. Ro-Man spends much of the movie lumbering around a canyon searching for the humans, who have this habit of just standing there as he approaches. One wonders where the film's $20,000 budget went, as there are no sets (the whole film takes place outside) and almost no special effects (all effects are stock footage from other movies, except for the infamous Space Platform--watch closely and you can see the hand of the effects guy holding it up). The dialogue is astonishingly bad, enough to give the infamous "Plan 9 From Outer Space" a serious run for its money ("I'm bossy? You're so bossy you ought to be milked before you come home at night!"), and some of the acting just has to be seen to be believed. For those who enjoy movies that are so bad they're good, Robot Monster ranks along with the films of Ed Wood as one of the all time best.

Summary: This could be the best of the worst!
Review: I must agree with those who say this could be the BEST "worst movie ever made." I have seen nearly every Ed Wood movie and although his "Plan 9 From Outer Space" has a special place in the heart of any fan of bad sci-fi movies, "Robot Monster" certainly gives it a run for the money. (Ed Wood had nothing to do with "Robot Monster" but it's similar to his type of movies.) This movie is so gloriously bad and yet entertaining on many levels. I love the stock footage of fighting lizards, interjected for no apparent reason. The tender moments like the impromptu wedding scene. The bubbles that float up around Ro-Man's junky-looking equipment. The fact that the heroine manages to get tied up in rope TWICE, once by her friends & family and later by the monster. The terminology (like the "calcinator death ray"). The pointless scenes showing the Ro-Man schlepping up and those barren hills and plains. Dialogue that is so stilted, it would make Ed Wood proud. I could go on and on. What could you possibly be doing in your life that is so important you can't spend the 62 minutes it takes to watch this incredible paean to human incompetence?

Summary: Must write bad review, but cannot!
Review: Where on the graph does must and cannot meet? I must write a bad review, but cannot!

Robot Monster is the funniest sci-fi movie ever made. Anything Ed Wood directed doesn't come close to this wonderful turkey. The costume is ridiculous (gorilla suit & diving helmet), the dialogue is poorly written, the acting is horrible and you have to sit through long footage of the "Ro-Man" walking to nowhere in particular. It's wonderful. A movie to be laughed at again and again.

Summary: The best bad movie ever made!
Review: I heard about "Robot Monster" from a sci-fi loving friend, and back in college a bunch of my friends and I rented this out of curiosity. Out of the seven people there, two wet their pants, three nearly did, and all seven fell on the floor in hysterics. Much like "Rocky Horror", this stands up to repeated viewing, if only to spot all the various goofs and to hear the hilariously awful dialogue. Even if you loathe sci-fi, "Robot Monster" is well worth the buy or rent, just to see how bad a movie can get--and how entertaining it can be!
