Review: i would have to say 99.9% of the "film" produced by human beings is ultimately meaningless, most actually insulting and degrading to the person subjected to it's mind numbing powers. i have only seen 4 movies that i consider worthwhile masterpieces, 2001 is one of them. it is best if you do not know what to expect from the movie-watch it without expectation and it will amaze you. if you like it, you MUST read the book,which explains everything & then some...and then preferably watch it again after that for its full effect. if you are curious as to what it is actually about, here is my personal biased interpretation:the film is split into three parts, those being 1.consciousness("the dawn of man") 2.self-consciousness (humans as we are today) and 3.supra-consciousness, or 'cosmic consciousness'(our *possible* future).

Review: I AM CERTAINLY NOT ANY KIND OR TYPE OF A PROFESIONAL MOVIE CRITIC, BUT I CAN TELL YOU THAT THIS MOVIE ("2001") IS SURELY A "TOP-KNOTCH" FILM. IT WILL EASILY TAKE ITS PLACE AS ONE OF THE VERY BEST MOVIES IN ALL OF THE PANTHEON OF HOLLYWOOD MOVIES EVER MADE!!! I SAW THE MOVIE THE OTHER NITE ON A LOCAL TV STATION, AND IT STILL "HOLDS UP" IN QUALITY EVEN AFTER ALL OF THE YEARS THAT HAVE GONE BY SINCE IT WAS MASTERFULLY DIRECTED BY THE LATE STANLEY KUBRICK. THE CURRENT "STAR WARS" MOVIE DOES NOT HOLD A CANDLE TO THIS MUCH MORE IMPRESSIVE SCI-FI MOVIE-"2001, A SPACE ODYSSEY"! IT WILL TRULY BE QUITE A LONG TIME FROM NOW (IF WE EVER SEE AGAIN!)BEFORE THE MOVIE WORLD SEES ANOTHER BRILLIANT DIRECTOR LIKE STANLEY KUBRICK.

Summary: Lucas's Homage to 2001
Review: I was watching 2001 the other day and I notice some shots that George Lucas probably used as the blueprint for scenes in Star Wars. Just speculation on my part, not based on any facts, but its interesting to check out the similarities.1. Right after the "caveman" tosses the bone into the air we cut to the space ships flying around the earth. One of these space ships, carrying Dr. Hayward Floyd, lands in the large space station docking port. This image, as the ship pulls into the hangar, is very similar to the image of the Millenium Falcon landing inside the Deathstar docking bay in Star Wars. Check out the landing light, that thick band of bright light around the hangar door, which also found its way into the Star Wars scene! 2. The shot where the small shuttle flies Dr. Floyd from the space station towards the Moon. This shot was used as the blueprint for the escape pod blasting-off from the Rebel Blockade Runner in Star Wars. The first ship soars toward the Lunar surface, the second ship soars toward Tatooine. These two shots are nearly interchangeable. 4. On the moon, this same shuttle descends toward a landing pad at the Lunar base. Notice as the dome-shaped doors open up, creating triangular pie-shaped sections that retract. These triangular sections appear similar to Lucas's triangular Imperial Destroyer as seen from below. 5. Finally, notice the shot when we first see the long space ship that travels out to Jupiter (I forget the name of this ship.) This is Hal's ship, with a sphere at one end and the long pole protruding from it. When this ship first enters into view, the sphere enters the screen first, looking like a small "manmade moon"--this is probably the inspiration for the Lucas's Deathstar. Notice the circular door on the sphere--this resembles the sunken tractor beam dish on the Deathstar. Check these images out! Enjoy.

Summary: Greatest film ever made!!!
Review: 2001:A Space Odyssey is the best movie ever made because it is so intelligent that you nust watch it repeated times to understand, for some people. If you have never seen it buy it in widescreen, it makes a lot of difference. Some people will say that it is to boring or goes to slow, but if you truly love science fiction you will love the greatest of them all.

Review: A visual representation of Nietzsche's philosophy of evolution from ape, through human being, to the future overman (starchild), 200l still remains the greatest sci fi film ever made. Filled with awesome special effects and cosmic music within a sweeping perspective, this movie is one of those rare films that is both provocative and entertaining. It ranks among the best cinematic achievements of all time. True to the eternal recurrence of the same, you'll want to view it again and again. Nietzsche himself would have been impressed with this motion picture.

Review: Kubrick's Space opera is at once exhilarating, humbling, eerie and stunning. There is less than 40 minutes of dialogue in a movie 140 minutes long, but you don't miss it at all. Visually riveting with the made-for-it Blue Danube Waltz composed by 19th century classical master Johann Strauss, 2001 gives you a feeling of utter helplessness and inevitability in a world totally driven by technology. The main protagonist is a guy named HAL. I won't say another word, just see for yourself.

Review: 2001 contains some of the most awe-inspiring footage ever shot. Kubrick was a still photographer for years, and it shows. No other film has explored space (as in area .... not outer-space) as 2001 did, and it is worth purchasing (but get the letter-box edition).
