Review: I have this movie, and enjoy it every time I watch it.
Not to cutesy, but a great story. Looking at the DVD behinds the scenes of ET is actually what I enjoy watching!! The spaceship
is touched up, and a few extra scenes which we all know are added. I don't think one has to own it to truly enjoy it-
rent the 2002 release on video or DVD!I do watch this when I don't know what to watch, or when I have nothing to do. Good pizza movie.

Summary: Read the book - it's funnier
Review: I was spoiled for the movie by reading the book first and laughing out load in many spots. The movie is sappy in many spots. I guess the book spoiled the movie for me. That and the Bone Fone that came out at the same time.

Summary: OK, but not Spielberg's masterpiece.
Review: "E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial" is probably the one Steven Spielberg film that has been labeled his "masterpiece". While it's a well-made film on most counts, I can't regard it as such. The story is nothing special, and has been done better in countless other kid/animal movies like "The Yearling" and "So Dear to My Heart". It's basically a boy-and-his-dog story with a sci-fi twist; a boy and his alien. Henry Thomas is very believable as Elliot, and Robert McNaughton is a real hoot as his older brother Michael. Drew Barrymore is equally hilarious as Gertie. The problem I have with this movie is that it's so incredibly popular and I've seen it so many times that it has lost its ability to move me emotionally. It came out the same summer as another Spielberg hit "Poltergeist", and "E.T." completely outgrossed it. "Poltergeist" was an original haunted-house film, while "E.T." is a rather tired formula story with several special ingredients to liven it up.

Summary: One of the Best Movies Ever Made
Review: This movie is one of my favorite movies. When the movie starts, you have to wait to see how ET looks, and I really wanted to see him.
Aliens land on a misty night and are collecting plants. When guys with guns start looking for them, all the other aliens take off. As for ET, he gets distracted by a bunny. He finds his way to Elliot's house. Elliot (Henry Thomas) thought he had been seeing something. When he dropped the Reese's Pieces, ET would eat them up. Elliot tries to hide ET from his younger sister Gertie, played by Drew Barrymore. The other kids at school make fun of him. After a while, the adults who were trying to find ET found him. What will happen to ET????
This movie has bad words in it, but we ignore them. It's a heart-touching movie. You should see the Special Edition with the bath scene, because it's REALLY funny. I would recommend this movie for 8-99.

Summary: E.T. The Extra Terrestral
Review: I first saw the movie in 1982 and did I cry my eyes out. I saw this movie three times in the theaters and I cryed each time. When the movie came out on video tape I bought it and played the tape over and over again and cryed each time. Now I own it on dvd and I still love it and I still cry watching it. this is a great movie and I still enjoy it.

Summary: Spielberg's masterpiece
Review: What Spielberg can do so well is take a completely unrealistic premise and make a beautiful, realistic movie based on it. This skill is no more present than in E.T. Spielberg takes a somewhat dysfunctional family which is saved by the emotional bond between Elliot and his extra-terrestrial soul mate. The goosebump-causing score of John Williams accents those moments of pure fantasy. Nobody else could have done it but him, and this movie conveys just what a powerful score can do for the emotional intensity of the film. This movie is a pure look into Spielberg's talent and his ability to collaborate--not just with Williams. The actors master subtelty and emotional depth, which keeps this fantasy down to earth and makes it that much more of a fantasy.

Summary: Pass me a hanky...
Review: I first saw E.T. back in 1984 and I remember crying my eyes out for days afterward. Speilberg's calling card is overly-dramatic, tear-jerking moments, that E.T. has plenty of them. But the movie is still as good today as it was back in the 80's, but this new 20th anniversary edition brings with it some new changes, none of them enhance or improve the movie. I bought the 2 DVD edition, and the extras are good in quantity and quality. There are 2 versions of the movie here. The original is the one most people have seen before, remastered with a better print and sound quality. The 2002 Theatrical re-release has some new CGI effects to make the little alien more life-like (his lips now move fluidly). For whatever reason, Speilberg decided to iron out all the violent bits. There are two moments, one with the troopers who originally carried guns, they now carry walkie-talkies. And when the mother says to the older brother "You're not going out as a terrorist", it has now been changes so instead of "Terrorist" she says "Hippie". These changes are inconsequental to the overall movie. The interviews (a reunion interview especially) are entertaining, with warm memories from all involved in the film coming out. The "making of" piece is especially fun, because you realize how much work went into bringing that little alien to life. The music score performance is nothing special, but worth the occasional viewing. Overall, it is hard to go wrong with this DVD set.

Summary: E.T. Is A Classic
Review: The 1982 box office champ is back and better than ever! Steven Spielberg has added scenes and polished effects to make for a more entertaining film than it already is. A few 'new' sequences especially the 'bathtub scene' is an instant classic. Although, parts of the film by today's standards seem a little dated, but it holds up well. Then again what can you expect from a legendary film that has been talked about, watched, critiqued and parodied for twenty years, right? Check it out for nostalgia's sake and plain old curiosity. I will definitely wait for this version on DVD. ***** Stars.
