Summary: Dr Scifi, or How PC Started Worrying and Stopped the Bombard
Review: (The above means the censors cutting this sci-fi movie, because political correctness supporters worried about it being scary to small children and stopped the the bombarding complaints by coming up with this inferior hacked up version)

Now, don't get me wrong, I love the original ET, but I can't fill up my loving for the original on this digitally tweaked version.

It's confirmed. Speilberg decided to listen to the censors and come up with this. Since the new scenes have a digital E.T., they slapped a digital one over the original in the scenes from the real version so they would blend more together.

Why would they wanna do that? Just get out the the original minature for the new scenes, I doubt it'd be destroyed after 20 years.

That's also a problem with CGI, it just feels soft and flat (check comparsions for Apcalypse Now's helicopter raid and a HCR in a modern movie that uses CGI for raids, or the LOTR version from '78 and the new one with the Black Rider in the woods scene).

Here are all the tweaks I know of:
1) Since the new scenes have a digital E.T., they slapped a digital one over the original in the scenes from the real version so they would blend more together (aforementioned)
2) The guns on the agents are replaced with walkie talkies or removed altogether (I'm pretty sure all kids would know that was an empty threat, or at least I did when I was younger)
3) Two or more instances of "lavicious" dialouge, one for the speak of a supposed terrorist (this what happens when terrorism has recently happened and they say "terrorist" or refrenses to it).
That's all I know of but I'm sure there's more.

Summary: booo hiss
Review: Like bell-bottom jeans and Giga Pets, E.T. was a fad for a year or so but the fad was over before it started. E.T. toys, E.T. cookies, E.T. Cheezits? E.T. wasn't a big box-office smash twetny years ago, so why on earth do they think waiting twenty years will make the slightest difference? I suppose maybe it's the nostalgia but let's face it, E.T. isn't very loveable. E.T. is the ugliest thing I've ever seen in my life. I mean, they've got E.T. Chips Ahoy cookies and everything else, they sure do market this stuff to death. Harry Potter probably made more money than E.T. did and is more famous than E.T. w/o even trying.

Summary: Mr. Spielberg(review from E.T.-Garry Hixon)
Review: I hope the one thats coming to theaters fares better than the last one in 1983! It was a good movie, but it was fairly corny, it came at a time when I think people wanted more close encounters type stuff, E.T. was a really great movie, and I hope 2002 will be known as the year they re-released everything and it worked-Bravo Steven Spielberg, and I hope the American theater going public will enjoy this popcorn movie, as much as I did in 1983, and god bless Drew Barrymore, and the rest of the old cast-Gar!(E>T>)

Summary: HEART WORMING
Review: An alien creature, E.T., is mistakenly left behind on Earth. When a young boy, Elliott (Henry Thomas), finds E.T. and hides him in his home, both their worlds are changed forever. E.T. teaches Elliott and his two siblings (Drew Barrymore and Robert MacNaughton), whose parents have recently separated, about caring and love while the children protect E.T. from the malevolent world of grown-ups. Elliott and E.T. become so close that they share emotions; as E.T. becomes ill, so does Elliott. The children end up going on a fabulous adventure trying to help E.T. find a way back to his home planet.

Summary: Enjoyable family fare
Review: It's true that Stephen Spielberg is able to weave a story better than virtually any other director in Hollywood. From "Jaws" to "Saving Private Ryan," Spielberg has always had an eye for the kinds of details that keep moviegoers piling in to watch his films. "E.T.," of course, was his first super-blockbuster, and it features a cast of interesting characters - including the alien himself - which make this movie worth watching.

However, I'm not one of the many who rank this among the best movies of all time. "E.T." was intriguing for its day, and it was an unparalleled blockbuster when it was released. It is to me, though, simply a very entertaining movie and one which merits seeing from time-to-time. And if you absolutely loved it the first time you saw it in the theater, consider adding it to your collection. Otherwise, "E.T." makes a great weekend rental at Blockbuster.

Summary: I must have movie
Review: I have loved this movie from the first time I saw it to my most resent viewing with my children, ages 4 and 5. This movie is one of the best sci-fi movies that really makes me feel that there are others out there. My children loved the movie and wanted me to find one to buy. I can't wait to add it to our collection of movies.

Summary: E.T is a great movie ( only because Thomas Howell is in it)
Review: This is defintely one of the best films ever made! ( Well maybe it is in my case because Thomas Howell is in it) lol*, but other than that its great! Its about a little boy named Elliot, one night he goes outside into the woods, and discovers a little lost alien, he is scared at first ( I mean who wouldnt be?) but then they start to develop a friendship, and little did Elliot know that E.T could talk and communicate with Elliot! This movie stars C.Thomas Howell (Tyler) Sean Frye (Steve) K.C Martel (Greg) Dee Wallace (Mary Elliot's Mother)Henry Thomas(Elliot) Drew Barrymore (Gertie) Robert McNaughton (Micheal) and Peter Coyote as the scientist. I was kind of dissapointed because they didnt show too much of C.Thomas Howell, and that made me upset because I love him so much, and hes my favorite actor, but that parts that he was in were my favorite parts, like the bike scenes, and the bustop scene. I really do wish he was more, because thats the only reason why i bought this movie!
