Summary: Terrible Movie
Review: For better or worse, this film really represents an era, particularly in So Cal. This film is superficial but bright and smart... and has VERY bright colors -- like a 90 minute Starburst commercial. The entire look, in every nook and cranny, is eighties glitzy-junk new wave excess taken to the extreme. And then grunge (Seattle, Nirvana, Clinton:-) put an end to it all, sort of. But while it lasted, the end of the eighties ($ boomtime for So Cal) is shown here in all its glory: Yuppiedom, lots of gadgets, almost disposable clothes, accesories to the max, disposable pop-culture references, and big-haired beautiful women. Julie Brown epitomizes all of the above with a postmodern wink. She is the heart here... while Geena Davis is the straight person, properly vacant, wandering through this neon world. As so many reviewers wrote, the Julie Brown musical numbers are real standouts. And Geena's "Ground That You Walk On" is great too. Highly recommended time capsule. (Compare this film to 1980ish "Xanadu," where lots of this glitz was in its infancy, more serious and innocent).

Review: I have always loved watching movies withbig stars when they were just starting. This is DEFINATELY one of them. It is absolutely hilarious. It doesn't hurt that Jeff Goldblum Is hot.

Summary: Just Say Julie!
Review: I love this movie as a Julie Brown fan, so this review will be pretty Julie-centric. The DVD is definitely worth it! For starters, when it came out on vhs "formatted to fit your screen," they did a really poor job--you'd hear Julie's voice talking but she wouldn't be in the shot. The DVD is widescreen and so that problem's taken care of; it makes a big difference! It's noticeably cleaned up too; the Blonde sequence always looked bad, and really old on vhs, but now it looks new again. And the best bits are the extras, including the deleted scenes, which are all scenes starring--That's right, Miss Julie Brown! Also included is the musical sequence they filmed but never used, Julie's "I Like 'Em Big And Stupid." You won't find a better source of Julie Brown music videos than right here!

Summary: Cute movie
Review: I love this movie. It's not meant to be some serious dramatic classic. It's a cute comedy. I've always liked Jeff Goldblum and Geena Davis is cute in this movie. I don't care for her much in others because I personally don't think she's the greatest actress in the world. But she's perfect in this role and I like the love thing going on between Jeff Goldblum and her. It's nice because they were married at the time. It's also a wonderful movie to remind me of the cool 80's that I grew up in and how the seemed to be pretty happy times. The music of the 80's was way better than anything these days. This movie is what I'd call a fun movie. The price is right. Why not buy it and enjoy it for yourself?

Review: I own bought this movie when it first came out on DVD and paid a lot more for it. It was worth every penny. This is a beautiful transfer to DVD, very crisp and clear!Oh yeah, it's a funny movie.

Summary: "I like 'em big...and stupid!"
Review: If you like 'em that way too, then this is the movie for you! Four very strong leads - Geena Davis, Jeff Goldblum and then unknown Jim Carrey and Damon Williams - backed up by Julie Brown deliver a paper-thin story with humor, bright colors and an ineffable sexiness. I think this was an attempt to revive musical-comedy cinema in the late '80s; the previous shining example being "Xanadu". The songs are original, funny and have enjoyed cult status ever since. This is one of the first movies to show that inter-planetary romances don't have to end with an ova-depositor rammed down your throat. I recommend this movie to anyone who enjoys turing their minds off for an hour and a half of fun.

Summary: Have some 80's nostalgia
Review: In spite of this film being slightly annoying (partly for Geena Davis's character, partly for the tacked-on music), it has redeeming values that make it worth at least a watch, and a trip back into 80's Space. The best parts are the hilarious Julie Brown songs, 'I Like 'Em Big and Stupid', and 'Cuz I'm a Blonde'. If the rest of the movie gets on your last nerve, just skip to the Julie Brown songs, and it will be worth the price you paid! It's too bad much of the editing that took place for the movie took out Julie stuff, which is why you should get the DVD, to have access to the deleted scenes. Other highlights are a delicious and silent Jeff Goldblum, and Jim Carrey and Damon Wayans, when you knew them when. Also check out the always-appealing Michael McKean as a pool-cleaning Surf Bum. Combine all that with lots of 80's color and glam, and you've got a fun little trip on their alien ship.

Summary: Could be an episode of "Before They Were Stars"
Review: It was all about flash and glitz during the 80s, which makes me wonder why there simply weren't more musicals. Well, at least there was this one. Earth Girls Are Easy is a silly, kitschy romp with songs that are as fun as the goofy storyline. Valerie (Geena Davis) is a manicurist at a styling salon in "The Valley" called Curl Up & Dye. She's engaged to a philandering doctor (Charles Rocket), and looks forward to the day that she'll be a bride. Life is confusing, but headed in the right direction, Valerie thinks. Until the fateful day when an alien spaceship crash-lands in her swimming pool. The brains behind Earth Girls Are Easy is Julie Brown, who takes part of the credit for writing the script and the songs, who sang several of the songs, and who also co-stars as Valerie's best friend, Candy. Before this movie, really the only thing Brown had been known for was serving as a vee-jay on MTV. Likewise, two of the aliens who at the time were unknowns would later become comedic powerhouses, Jim Carrey and Damon Wayons. Rounding out the trio of aliens was Jeff Goldblum, who was Geena Davis' real-life boyfriend at the time and who, not surprisingly, plays her character's love interest in this film. Mostly the movie is a series of setups for each of the songs, as well as some great comedy skits. Keep your eyes peeled during the "Cause I'm A Blond" sequence for uncredited dancer Robia LaMorte, who would later become well known to fans of Buffy the Vampire Slayer as computer science teacher Jenny Calendar - she becomes de-throned as "this month's Miss August" by Julie Brown when she's exposed as really being a brunette. There's also a great turn here by Michael McKean as over-the-hill surfer Woody. If you enjoy a good, goofy musical-comedy, you don't want to miss Earth Girls Are Easy.
